Do not be fooled by the reviews this place has online - the food is mediocre and the staff is snobby. I was supposed to be celebrating my birthday here and they couldn’t have cared any less / no acknowledgement and terrible service. Save your money and go elsewhere.
Great consistent service throughout the night
Excellent fresh, high quality food
Food was world was world class. Service was good not great. Noice was high due to an unusually four person table next to us. One major complaint - our waiter attempted to add to our check a few items that we did not order. When this was brought to his attention, he, without questioning, redid our bill correctly, implicitly acknowledging the attempt to pad our bill.
We had a dinner yesterday for my husband birthday Out of 4 courses of meal only salad was good. Scallops were over salted, beef was worst then in Long Horn stale house. I finished it because I was extremely hungry with small portions they serve .Please do not spend your money! They do not worst it! We had a Marmelade high end gourmet experience on May -go there! You will spend same money but will remember your great experience! Beside the chief will come and great you here he probably very ashamed to show up! Will never come back no recommend to my friends!
I had dinner with my wife for her birthday. Food and service were excellent. Highly recommended.
From beginning to end nothing short of an amazing culinary dining experience. Awesome staff with Wesley as our server and his direct team assisting him in all ways to ensure a flawless experience. I highly recommend this remarkable restaurant! 5 stars to me!
Another great evening! This restaurant is consistently good. Must give it a try!
My son and I ordered the four course dinner. The food was excellent, the service was excellent, and the environment was comfortable. The only less than favorable comments I have include:
1. The cost of the meal was very pricey considering the small portions on each plate
2. The pace of the service was very slow- meal service time was almost three hours
Otherwise, a great dining experience
Honestly, after reading other online reviews I was terrified to eat here. BUT, The food was amazing, and the staff were spectacular!
Definitely a highlight of my trip in Puerto Rico!
Los meseros que me tocaron fueron excelente, Wilbert y José Carlos. La experiencia en el restaurante la recomiendo 100%. Me encantó
My favorite rest in SJ… best food, chef, service, ambiance… expensive but worth every dollar.
Delicious food and great service. Pricey but beautiful ambiance
Food was not great for the price! I've had way better salmon at (fresher, well seasoned, great temperature) at local Puerto Rican places. Tuna crudo was a bit fishy. Expected more from a Michelin-starred chef.
The chef's tasting menu was phenomenal! Every dish was thoughtful and presentation was beautiful. Service was great and once again, Chef Cuevas and the team at 1919 set the standard above and beyond for what a fine dining experience should be!
Wesley and Eugenio were great servers and did a great job
William and Jonelle took excellent care of us- explaining each dish of our prized dice menu , and the wine pairings perfectly. The portions were just the right size and we loved the special “extras” - amuse bouches, a palate cleanser, and petit fours. Lovely surprises, on top a an excellent meal., with superb service.
This was not just dinner, it was a dining experience! Everything from the ambiance to the service to the delectable food was out of this world. Every individual that served us was knowledgeable and gracious. Each detail was held to the highest level of attention. The carefully thought out menu and combination of tastes flavors and ingredients were unmatched. Thank you for treating each of the 5 of us, including our 14 year old with resect and warmth. It was an unforgettable night.
One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had with my family.
The issue is that the charge 125 for a Menú including 4 dishes But there are many hidden extras wich is Not nice. If you want certain dish probably there is 10 to 20 USD extra.
But good food
Amazing restaurant l love it, food… service…. Warm chocolate dessert..
Amazing service, and good food. I'm a very picky eater, but I must say the prime beef ribeye was insanely good. I would say that the dessert menu could've had more variety, but other than that, everything was spectacular. Was there on anniversary, and everyone procured me and my wife had an amazing time.
Everything was awesome accept the 20% tip automatically included, making dinner over $650. Bit of a surprise.
Food was bland and mediocre. Insanely overpriced for such disappointing food. Never again
Room was as cold as an ice box.
Lovely dining atmosphere with mixed reviews. Medium quiet and very romantic setting with a price fixed 4 course menu for $125 per person with some up charges for select items. Our first 2 courses were excellent for both of us. I had the lobster burartta and the Day Scallop and my date had one of the small salads and the Gnocchi with a spicy pepper & pork sauce. The staff was very friendly and accommodating for preference to avoid gluten for me. For the main course the pork chop was excellent and my date ordered lamb medium which came charred on the outside with a burnt taste. The desserts we both had were not good (pana cotta and my date ordered a chocolate pasterie with berries and ice cream which came as berries and ice cream with no chocolate pasterie. The servers were plentiful and nice but did not get the drink orders right and not timely enough to correct the drink orders while eating the food. In the end, I did not feel that we received a high enough quality experience for the $444 we spent for 2 people (including a 15% tip and a 17.5% Local tax). If you’re looking for atmosphere and can tolerate some missteps on service and food, it is a most lovely environment.
A decadent meal In a beautiful setting!
Another outstanding meal here. The food, service, and wine pairings were all marvelous. 1919 is one of the best spots for fine dining in San Juan.
New Year’s Eve - they were completely overwhelmed.
*awesome* for special occasions
The food and wine were terrific. There was even a live band at the bar outside as we left.
My review is NOT about any of the servers or staff. The service (both bartenders and wait staff) were excellent. Very attentive and kind. My review is solely about the food. It was a major disappointment. For all the hype, it was worse than any mid range level food, let alone a fine dining establishment. All my dishes were over salted and under seasoned. The texture of them (like my fish and my partner’s veal) were well executed, so the cooking technique is good. The taste of everything, though, was simply bad or bland. My shaved black truffles tasted like styrafoam. The menu was boring and barely featured any food that could be called Carribean or Puerto Rican inspired. My dessert was sickly sweet. A huge waste of money too, since the prices are exceedingly high for what you get.
The service is exceptional, best on the island. The wines are nice. We had the chefs tasting menu. There were some nice points. Portion sizes spot on. The treats at the end were nice and unexpected. There were two problems. One was pacing. We were at the restaurant for nearly four hours. That’s too long for a 7 course. Second was that many of the dishes were too salty. This robbed the dishes of their intended flavor. Cut the salt in HALF and this would be a great tasting menu instead of just good. We had an issue with the bill where we were charged 500.00 extra for something called premenu service. Had we not scrutinized the bill we would have accidentally paid this. Not sure how such a serious mistake could be made. Of course they corrected it.
Overall experience, food and service are outstanding. We ordered the chefs tasting menu and the food is simply outstanding. However, we noticed the last two servings (risotto and filet mignon) were a little bit salty for our taste. The wine pairing and the sommelier were superb !!! It is our favorite restaurant in PR.
This was a special meal for me as this trip was the last outing I was taking prior to my cancer journey. The staff was impeccable and the meal was out of this world. Highly suggest you try the chef’s table with the wine pairing!!!
The best prime rib in the universe
Simply outstanding food, service and ambiance.
One of the finest meals we had in Puerto Rico.
Loved our experience and can’t wait to go back.
This was a huge disappointment specially for such an expensive restaurant. How can you call a piece of “chayote” with black truffle shavings on too high cuisine??? Definitely not worth it.
Black truffles on the gnocchi were stale and flavorless, salmon was overcooked, with the exception of the lamb Ragu everything was just ok. We are happy to pay $150/ per person for a delicious chefs tasting menu, but this left us feeling disappointed.
