Afternoon Tea
Thank you for choosing to dine with us at The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa, "Where the World Registers."

Afternoon Tea is a decades-long tradition at The Brown Palace. Set amid the historic grandeur of the Atrium Lobby, and with the serenade of a melodic piano, guests revel in the splendor as they escape from the city's bustle. Enjoy a pot of properly brewed English tea accompanied by scones served with Devonshire cream and preserves, savory tea sandwiches, and a delightful array of classic tea pastries.

Sip on classic cocktails, a glass of wine, or a refreshing pint in our Lobby with charcuterie and other inventive dishes at Atrium Cocktails, Friday & Saturday evenings, 4:30 to 7:30 pm. Live music by The John Kite Jazz Quartet will complete an unforgettable and lively experience.

Declining experience over the years: the food was unexceptional and dry, the seating was low, uncomfortable and difficult to maneuver and they limited individual tea selection due to the limited space on their table set up. This used to be a lovely event, this visit was an overpriced bust.

I have dreamed of taking my wife of 35 years to afternoon tea at The Brown Palace for more than 30 years since I stayed there on a business trip. Imagine my excitement when I had an opportunity to take my wife AND our adult daughter for their birthdays. We attended and had a wonderful time together. The food and tea were excellent, but our table was TERRIBLE. How do you make an advance reservation and disclose the outing is for a double birthday celebration, then get stuck in a dark corner facing a wall with a solid single-story ceiling instead of being in the amazing multi-story atrium? Most disappointing seating experience ever! My only counsel is don’t make a reservation for 3. There are almost no tables for 3. And the Palace won’t seat 3 at a table for four even if a 4-top is available So sad to anticipate a perfect experience for 30 years and to get seated as if we were in “time out”. It was the worst table. Yes. I recommend tea at the Palace. But not without specifying seating in the atrium.

I love the Brown Palace. The afternoon tea is a special experience. We also had Champagne with was a little pricey bumping the package up $25/person for a single flute. A less expensive option would be nice as we purchased a second round of bubbles that was $14/flute and I believe it was the same brand. There was quite a lot of background noise so it was often challenging to participate in conversation. We were seated in the corner on sofas around a large coffee table so some of us were far away from others in our party. Overall it was a was a wonderful afternoon.

Lovely, historic venue with impeccable service for the most part. But the food was only so-so, and the price high. For a place that has been doing tea for so long, and has a tradition of parents and grandparents bringing children to experience the culture of a bygone era, you'd think that they would have figured out a tea option that young ones would enjoy. While there is a decreased price for children, they have to have the same gourmet food options as the adults, and these are way outside of a young child's developing palette. Even the sweets were flavored in such a way that it was not liked. Why not a plain scone, with peanut butter and jelly, grilled cheese, turkey tea sandwiches, and confetti cake, and chocolate chip cookies ?

My friend and I decided we wanted to do the royal tea for two and we were not disappointed! We sat down a little bit before our 330 reservation and was promptly greeted by our host with our tea choices and champagne. The tea came out piping hot and they poured for us. It was lovely. And the selection of scones and tea sandwiches was very good. We very much enjoyed the taste and they even gave us a box to go of the tea sandwiches and desserts. We made a plan to come back every year and have tea service!

the afternoon tea at Brown Palace was actually quite amazing. The overall ambience is so majestic and victorian, that it takes you that era naturally. You will feel special and even an ordinary day tea seems so celebratory. I celebrated my friends birthday there and the experience was simply amazing. Tea was fantastic and so was the tiny sandwiches. Our hostess kept bring those and we kept on eating. so good. We tried the Royal tea and the accompanying champagne was brilliant. A must do with your gal pals or daughters.

I’ve eaten here many times in the past and the service and tea were always great! Unfortunately, when I took my mom for Mother’s Day this year the service was very poor. Once we had our tea and food we were forgotten about by our server and had to chase her down for our bill. If we needed more cream or tea or more sandwiches we had to find someone to ask. You would think that the service would be a lot better than it was when you’re spending $170 on tea. After she dropped the bill at our table she ran off, so we figured she wanted us to pay up front. But the concierge had to chase her down as well. I waited for awhile to speak to a manager, who apologized and took down my info to send a coupon or something to entice me to return. It’s been a week and I have received no such email. There are most likely much better high teas in the metro area. I would suggest trying to find those rather than wasting your money at the Brown Palace, which has gone downhill a lot in the last couple years.

The teas we had were lovely, the food was delicious (the scones with whipped butter were a favorite for me, and my mom and sister couldn’t get enough of the delicious finger sandwiches). The deserts were also decadent and flavorful. The lobby where the tea takes place is beautiful and the live harp music helps the goings-on in the hotel fade into the background.

This was a wonderful experience, to have afternoon tea at the Brown Palace. The tea was tea. The presented deserts were average, with some being so sweet that I felt an immediate sugar rush. For a Friday afternoon, the noise level is what I expected, loud, and at times I needed to take a break from the area, with the level of conversations and the band / piano playing at the same time. Our party was seated was right behind, where guests check in for their afternoon tea experience, and I felt crowded, and lost, with my only scenery being that of a wall in front of me. You should consider placing some 1/2 round tables to face the main dining area, instead of square tables, so that folks don't feel left out of the afternoon tea experience, with their backs facing all of the action. I would also consider, cutting down on the amount of patrons at one time, and extend the hours of this experience, to allow more guests and visitors the opportunity to experience afternoon tea. On a scale from 1-10, I would rate this experience between a 4-5/10.
