I ate here as a celebration for my upcoming birthday, on the last night of a US holiday. I was greeted by the staff and surrounding guests to say happy birthday (I had mentioned when booking). That was fun and lead to some friendly interaction with diners next to us, which we enjoyed.
The dining room is beautiful, though other guests are quite close, and if seated at the tables or bar seats near the door it would be disruptive to your meal.
We had the four course menu (the smaller option - as we’ve had way too much good eating recently) and it was well paced, with good servings and delightful extras - vegetable amuse bouche, excellent bread, and sweet cake treat. The wine list is good with options by the glass too. Service was good. Prices quite reasonable.
The food was the star. One course a little too salty, but wonderful exploration of interesting ingredients and beautifully cooked. Definitely on our list for any return trip - though I’d love to try their other locations next.
And we had a little bonus celebrity spotting too!

Easily the worst gourmet meal ever!

This restaurant is pretentious and lacks innovation at all levels. Our meal consisted of paltry menu items that lacked any advanced flavor. Simple items were presented in the most pretentious manner, however, the items lacked flavor or idea. It was, at best, an empty and unappealing meal.

Ideas of hunger and fat are greatly portrayed in the presentation. Limited portions and those in abundance of fat proliferated the meal. You are faced with limited portions that feature high fat ingredients, which represents a highly unhealthy and, honestly, dishonest meal composition. It leaves you to believe real nutrition or flavor exists, but sadly, no, you are disoriented by lard.

Service was just ok. My wine glass ran empty more times than I can count. And the sommelier has trouble selecting any palatable wines. Variety is assured, but the immense lack of any knowledge was disheartening. My toddler could have recommended better wines.

In all, a mediocre experience, and I doubt I will ever try this place again. It was a total waste of $1,000 and a nice Friday evening out. The meal was ordinary and we were still hungry after eating.

Who has six courses and is still hungry? Well, us, after a meal at Blue Hill.

This was my first time at Blue Hill after wanting to go for some time. Often when I have such high expectations I am disappointed, but not here!! My husband and I both agree this was the best meal we have ever had. While pricey, the flavors, particularly of the vegetables, are like nothing you have experienced elsewhere. We will be going back a few times each year!

My server Oliver was amazing. So patient and explained everything. His knowledge of the cuisine and “blue hill way” was inspiring. The food was out of this world great. Each dish had such a wonderful taste. This is now my favorite restaurant in NYC. Thank you

Wonderful anniversary dinner. We loved the tasting menu! Everything was delicious (Flavorful and wonderful textures), but highlights were the grass fed steak (served on a cow shoulder bone), and the BREAD. Oh man any bread-related part of the meal— we never knew it could have such flavor- wow! The root vegetables served first were simply delicious. Outstanding service. The descriptions of each of the wines paired with each course were detailed and enthusiastic, almost as fun as drinking each glass. Highly recommend. Be prepared for tight quarters though- tables are very close together.

It failed at delivering the experience and maintaining the consistency. We have never waited for at least 15 mins between courses in any Michelin restaurant but Blue Hill. They are bringing wines more aggressively than balancing the experience between wine and food. The kitchen was so slow. We waited 20 mins for the second course without any attention paid. We politely tried to ask. Lesson learnt, don’t push the river. The waitress can’t control kitchen.

If this is the second time experience we knew, I would have charged them for the experience and time wasting.

Nice words are good but not enough for covering or improving the experience when expectation set by the restaurant is so much less delivered.

The taste of food is merely mediocre. Wine is good.

The room is lovely, multiple staff members brought and cleared dishes for the various courses. Food presentation was attractive. In our party of four, we found the food generally quite good, some dishes more so than others. We were curious to visit Blue Hill based on what we'd learned of Dan Barber from TV shows and the press. In many cases, the tastes (as in the kognut squash) were intense, but this was more the case with the vegetables than the meat dishes. If the concept is to provide food that exemplifies what food should taste like, Blue Hill comes close to fulfilling the idea. However, the dishes weren't necessarily ones we'd want to order again. We would recommend the divers scallop, lamb, kognut squash and the delightful raw vegetables that were served first.

We were extremely disappointed by our meal at Blue Hill. Although not as pricey as, say, Per Se, Blue Hill is expensive enough that customers have every reason to expect an excellent meal. The two of us ordered different dishes and shared, such that we sampled at least 7 dishes and didn't like a single one. The highlights of the meal were the bread and butter (yummy) and an amuse bouche of tiny carrots, radishes, and turnips. Whoever would have thought a miniature turnip would be tasty eaten raw? On the plus side, the service was lovely, and the room was warm and comfortable. We felt well taken care of. Shame the food wasn't good. Perhaps winter is a bad time to go to a restaurant that focuses on local ingredients.

What an experience it was. Do yourself a favor and request the farmers feast especially the extended feast. Order 2 nice bottles of wine maybe a Cab Sauv to start then a bold Italian Red for the second half. Sit back and take it all is all you will have left to do. If you read a bad review about this place those individuals do not know what they’re talking about. Hands down exceptionally great food, service, and ambiance.

We had a wonderful evening at Blue Hill. The dining space was comfortable and inviting. Our server was pleasant and friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu. The food....oh the absolutely wonderful food! We did one farmers feast and one daily tasting menu for variety. Every single dish was unique and well thought out. But not just each dish as an individual, how the flavors flowed together from course to course. So many textures and tastes. The Diver Scallop was literally the best scallop we have ever tasted...and we live in New England! It was prepared perfectly with a delicate sauce in order for the scallop to be the main act. Stunningly flavorful. The Blue Hill pig was tender, juicy and the assortment of cuts was just enough. Usually when we have had pork belly it’s been rubbery and squish on the palate. Not here! The texture and flavors were outstanding. The crisp outer layer was absolutely perfect and what all pork belly should be like!! We will certainly be back and hope to make it out to the farm! Our regards to the chef Dan Barber and his fantastic staff. Thank you for a memorable experience!
