The food and service were terrible. No one was available to seat us at the hostess stand for up to 10 minutes. Finally a bar tender spotted us and seated us. I ordered a roasted beet salad. I looked and tasted like someone threw some greens in a bowl, opened a can of beets, tossed them in and sprinkled a little goat cheese on top. No dressing. It was terrible. Will never go back.
Service was poor during lunch hour. Food is good, the white wine sangria is very sweet. Will probably go again cos the patio is very good.
Great lunchtime spot! Had nice cocktails, great salads, and the best truffle fries in the world! Just wish we could have sat upstairs.
Another great experience! I had the Greek salad with shrimp and it was divine! Others were raving about the burger! I admit to stealing a few fries and they were perfect! Service was attentive and food arrived quickly!
My husband and I went to Cafeteria for brunch relatively early on a Sunday. The place was not busy but we had very poor service throughout our entire stay. Our waitress could be seen chatting at the bar while we waited to order and did not come and check on us while we ate. We really needed more water but did not get any until our check arrived. My husband also wanted to order another drink but we were brought our check before he had the chance The food itself was very good, but I would not return based on the service we received.
The food just wasn’t up to par compared to our lunch over the summer that was delicious.
Food was fine, slightly over priced but not the real issue. However it was our server that was more inclined to laugh with the laddies at the table next to us then to attentively serve. My water and drink were empty and the dude is literally five feet away from me laughing with these laddies for at least 6 or 7 minutes. These were the same laddies who were loud and obnoxious all dinner! it was a special Valentine’s Day dinner with my Girlfriend and Cafeteria Boston let us down.
Great experience. First time there. Food and drinks were very good. Great service as well. Plenty of space upstairs.
Food was delicious but a bit pricey
The brunch menu was kind of disappointing, but the overall quality of the food was good. Lunch and dinner menus looked more interesting. Service was a little too casual in my opinion.
Great spot for brunch/lunch! Would definitely recommend!
one of meals came ~10 minutes after 3 others (egg!). One of dishes was not prepared as requested. Asked for more coffee; was told that they were brewing a new pot and it would be ready in 5 minutes. Waited another 20 minutes without coffee and left. Would not return
Really love this place, but this time the waiters seem to be running around non stop and it made me stressed. My salad came drenched in sauce and missing a few ingredients. But the waiter immediately fixed it and took great care of us after that.
Still in my opinion a good value in back bay compared to other tourist traps
I did attend breakfast for this reservation but being we were first guest of the day seemed I did not need the reservation and forgot to tell them.
My son really enjoyed his Frittata and my Huevos Rancheros were delicious as were the potatoes that accompanied both. We will be back!
I understand it was New Year’s Day and I’m sure everyone was tired from the night before... but the servers never smiled, and made us feel like we were inconveniencing them by being there. It was very quiet, only one other table. The kitchen staff delivered the food even though there were 2 servers and 2 tables of guests. The food was ok but not at all worth the prices. Definitely won’t go back.
I’ve been coming here for over ten years and always loved it. This time it wasn’t as good as usual unfortunately. We ordered the same thing we always get. I’m not sure If there is new management or new chef or what is different but it was not as good as it used to be unfortunately! I’m hoping this is a one off and it will be better in the future. I’ve loved it for so long I’ll definitely go back.
It was ok, service was good and food was fine but extremely overpriced
Birthday! It was amazing I loved it!
After Sitting and ordering Wine and a Meal. A mouse decided to join us at our table. Due to time constraints we stayed. No apology from the manager. In fact the manager NEVER came over.
Nice space and delicious food. Would definitely come back!
Very fun brunch spot! Service was terrific and the light and cheery atmosphere made morning feel especially lovely.
Food was good for the price. Quick service and quiet atmosphere on a week night.
Great lunch. Surprisingly quiet on this cold day.
Cafeteria is always amazing. The food and drinks are consistently delicious and the service is always fantastic as well!
The food is way overpriced. The quality of service and food has gone down since I lived in Boston last year and ate here around 3 times. Whatever you do don’t order the scallops, they are so tough and over cooked. The salad is underdressed and costs $12!! 12 dollars and it’s so disappointing! Also they charge $6 for a Pepsi which is absolutely insane. I have dined at many high end restaurants and even they don’t charge $6 for a watered down Pepsi. It was my birthday so we had plans to stay for dessert but after the very underwhelming first courses we had to get out of there. Our server maybe checked on us once during the entire meal so we could never really talk about the food and get that sorted. Oh and 1 salad 1 soda and 2 entrees cost us around $80! I have never written a review before but I had to write this one... so overwhelmingly disappointed in this place and it hit extra hard because I was there to celebrate my birthday. Please do better cafeteria, I expect more from an overpriced Newbury street restaurant.
The Boston Cream Burger is the best burger I’ve ever had and it’s all I ever get there.
Wait for outside seating was a little shambly, but once we sat down everything was perfect!
Service & atmosphere were delightful for a late afternoon meal. The quality and presentation of our entrees was excellent & overall a very good value for our selections. We will definitely return!
The server was unenthusiastic nor apologetic due to my entree not being made as I requested. The music event was great, very good music.
A bit cold inside the restaurant, but delicious food!
We were in Boston to visit a couple of colleges and some friends who live in the area suggested this place for dinner after the tours. Great recommendation!
Great for brunch - especially from late spring-early fall when you can be outside! A little pricey for dinner, and don't find the quality of food to be quite as good as brunch is.
Just okay. Salads were average, quesadillas were so spicy you couldn’t taste anything but chipotle. Zero atmosphere inside and we couldn’t wait for an outside table. With all the great options in the area can’t quite say I’d go back
Service was la king. Took 45 minutes to get eggs and pancakes. Was maybe 20% full. Had to flag waiter down for everything - coffee refill, pancake syrup.
My friend and I had a lovely dinner on the patio here. The heated lamps were perfect for an early fall evening! Service started off amazing, but as the patio filled up we found ourselves waiting quite some time to close out. But onto the FOOD! The cheeseburger spring rolls are a must-try, and we loved the tomato soup. The artichoke spinach dip was great too, but I'm not a huge fan of goat cheese and that flavor is rather strong in this dish. Overall though, the Newbury St location is ideal, it's lively and fun and a gorgeous setting for good drinks and excellent food. As a Boston resident I'll be recommending this restaurant and I'll be back!
Honestly, the main thing Cafeteria Boston has going for it is the setting ; they have lots of outside seating. The staff was nice, but the food was mediocre at best. Two of us ordered eggs over medium, and they were incredibly runny. The coffee was warm at best , and that’s being generous. It just seemed like the place wasn’t well managed at all...
Pube in our eggs and a dog hanging out on the bar ? ? ?
The perfect place to grab lunch on Newbury and booking on open table is the best way to go! All meals are great and these are my favorite French fries in Boston, a real treat.
