We received the A-1, 5-Star Yelp treatment the moment we walked in the door. Paul and Tatiana were extremely friendly and embracing. The meal course explanations were spot on and the food was out of this universe. The textures, tastes and pairings were phenomenal.

What a fantastic dining experience with Chez TJ. The food was amazing, and beyond my imagination , and was good in every aspect . Especially the dessert, the look, the color and the taste were out of this world. The staff was so attentive and friendly . It was definitely a memorable experience .

Exquisite food and very accommodating to my dietary preferences (pescatarian but mostly vegetarian with a gorgeous roasted parsnip main). Only complaint with that it took about 45 minutes for our fist course and it was a bit drafty and cold but the service, food and experience were exceptional.

For a Michelin star restaurant I was expecting the quality of the food to be much better. We paid the extra $130 for the white truffle risotto and honestly it was soupy and the rice felt over cooked - to the point where we didn’t eat it. Some of the tasting menu dishes felt more like a technique check lists rather than composed dishes, and it did leave us feeling very underwhelmed. The service staff where great, hence the good stars there, but very much a low 2 star or high 1 star out of 5 for the food :(

The service by all staff was top notch. The venue and ambience were great. The low stars is because o was expecting much better food. It was ehhh. For a Michelin star restaurant I expect 80%+ of the food to be fabulous. Fell short of that- maybe like 35%.

Food and service were superb . We were seated in a delightful little room with fireplace . The elk course was amazing. The Truffle offering was certainly a treat for the palette . The team graciously accommodated one guest’s food intolerance . Unfortunately also seated in our dining room was a boisterous table of six who were noticeably underdressed for a fine dining experience . Tho not TJ’s fault, that group certainly detracted from the ambience. The plaid work shirt and dirty baseball cap on the head throughout the meal were too much .

Chez TJ in Mountain View is a fantastic dining experience that combines exceptional food, impeccable service, and a charming atmosphere. The menu features contemporary American cuisine with a French influence, showcasing the culinary expertise of Chef Jarad Gallagher. The dishes are beautifully presented and bursting with flavor, with a great emphasis on seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. The wine list is extensive and features an excellent selection of both old and new world wines. The service is attentive, knowledgeable and always ready to offer suggestions or accommodate special requests. Overall, Chez TJ is a must-visit restaurant for food lovers, offering a sophisticated and memorable dining experience.

Excellent modern chef's tasting menu (blind). Well prepared and presented. Good sized portions, unique dishes and definitely thoughtful presentations. Staff was gracious but formal (first-rate training). Definitely designed for wine pairings (we brought our own bottle which was fine) with different levels of matches (kudos to the sommelier and house). Servers were well versed with the producers (local) and basis for and preparation of all dishes (and wines). Expensive, but worth it. One negative: limited number of bathrooms so that proved a bit challenging to navigate for many of the guests. We will definitely patronize again in the future.

If you can ever afford to pay upwards of $300 per person for an evening out (I spent $1000 for two of us - two tasting menu dinners, split a wine pairing, and no upcharge extras aside from coffees with the last course), this is a great way to do it. 3+ hours with a very friendly waitstaff, amazing food, and a cozy, intimate atmosphere. Go with someone you want to spend some good time with, and have a luxurious, elevated, delicious experience. This was my wife's and my first time eating at a fine dining restaurant like this, and our first time ordering a tasting menu. But as someone whose entire fine dining experience is watching Netflix food shows, I can't recommend Chez TJ more highly. It's definitely a place to go once per year or so for that extra special occasion. A couple pieces of advice from my experience: If you want a more private experience, eat on the patio. Their heaters are great, and my wife and I were the only ones out there so it was basically our own private dining room. This was in January, so it might be different in warmer weather. Do not drink an entire wine pairing on your own. Unless you drink a lot regularly, you won't be able to taste the last few courses because you'll be so drunk. Even with one pairing between the two of us, my wife and I were pretty tipsy by the end. There's an upcharge for splitting the pairing, but they definitely pour heavier than 1/2 of a standard pairing pour.

Our experience at Chez TJ was tainted by a very poor wine pairing: I had Chez TJ on my radar for a while and I was very excited to finally get a chance to try it! We visited the restaurant on a Friday evening. Once seated, the server came to share more details about the restaurant, the fact that the menu is not known until the food is in your plate, and present the couple extra options you could add on top of your regular tasting menu. The food was good, but a little bit repetitive for a roughly 8-course menu. We had game twice, and both sauce were quite similar. The desserts were overly sweet and lacked complexity. The amuse bouche were likely the most delicate part of the tasting. If you want to go to Chez TJ for the experience and surroundings, you will be very pleased. The food is good enough to make it an enjoyable moment. What really did not work for us was the wine tasting. We went with the Grand Wine Pairing (second tier out of 3 tiers total). What was wrong with the wines picked? - None of the wine, except maybe the desert wine, was a good match with the food. Eating/drinking them together made them taste worth that what they were tasting, revealing unpleasing acidity or alcool. - The wine poured were easy to source, not really special wines you could find at local wines stores. When the sommelier asked if we were happy with the pairing towards the end of the tasting, I explained that I was not. He very politely explained that they "should" pair well. I am sorry but that night they did not, and it spoiled our tasting. Overall, I would probably not recommend Chez TJ, unless you are just looking for a fancy location. You can have better food at other restaurant in the South Bay. If you are looking for a good wine pairing, I would definitely not recommend Chez TJ.

Overall it was very disappointing! After a long time we returned Wednesday to Chez TJ. As expected we were told that the dinner experience will last 3 hours. In fact to took more than 4.5 hours and only because we left before the two dessert courses. The party next to us did the same. Even more disappointing was the way the waiters handled this. It was obvious that the kitchen was very busy because of the two larger parties. But there was no proactive information that it will take longer and only because we asked about it we got a shy excuse. This is not what we expect from a place like this. The food and the wine were very good but were completely pushed into the background by the circumstances. That‘s sad and shouldn’t be the case when you spend so much money for a dinner.

Mediocre quality food for the price point. Certain meats could be tough as rubber and certain sauces were incredibly salty when paired with bland-tasting protein. Ingredients in many dishes did not blend together harmoniously. Pastries and desserts ranged from alright to above average. Service was slow (pushing 3 hours for a 7 course meal - come on) and nothing exceptional for a restaurant at this pricepoint. TLDR: you would be better served at lots of other places

The best word to describe the experience is impeccable! From the minute you walk in until the time you leave. The staff is exceptional, never intrusive, and yet we had every single thing we desired, never asking for anything. I can not say enough about the food. Absolutely spectacular! The chef creates some of the most amazing taste experiences. The amuse-bouche began the meal on such a delicious note….we wondered if it would continue. We were not disappointed! Every single dish, of which there were many, was so amazing in texture and flavor that we could not leave even a morsel on our plates. I personally loved the black cod with persimmon, sunchoke, walnut, and sorrel; it melted in my mouth. We love dining at Michelin restaurants, and Chez TJ is one of our top in the area.

Food was mediocre and definitely not worth the price. The ambience was ruined by a loud party seated next to us. They made it difficult to even hear the restaurant music or hear what the server was saying when our meal was being described. I felt like I was at a cheap $40 restaurant and not at an elegant $700 restaurant. I will not be returning.

Having spent $1,200, I would have expected to walk away entirely satisfied, but I was actually quite disappointed. The boar was dry, the nighly pairing was minuscule (and we even paid up to share), and they charged the fixed 20% gratuity on a $115 bottle of wine. I understand 20% gratuity on service, but on a bottle of wine, that they only poured once? A bit over the top. The "version of street taco" which was part of the initial finger foods was laying on a bed of unpopped popcorn. Haven't we all learned that you should not put anything on a plate that can't be eaten? It nearly broke my tooth when one of the kernels stuck to the inside of the "taco" on my second bite. Maybe they wanted you to pick it up once and put the entire item in your mouth without ever placing it back on the plate? Now that's a big bite! When we commented on the boar tasting as though it was frozen and then cooked incorrectly in sous vide, each of the wait staff became entirely defensive instead of asking more or possibly even sympathizing, and one to the extent of even being passive-aggressive. We know our game and expect it to taste wild. This was dry and tasted like overcooked pork. Overall, we made the night the special one it was meant to be, but Chez TJ did not contribute to that. In fact, it detracted from an otherwise spectacular day. If you go, be sure to set your expectations for small portions, a bit pompous atmosphere, over-rated cuisine, and an over-priced experience. It will be another 10-15 years before we go again, if we ever do at all.

Chef Lemerand, Chef Caswell, and team gave us a meal full of multiple flavor profiles that were refined and perfectly balanced. I hope to come back soon.
