What is Nikkei?
Years ago Japanese immigrants travelled to Peru for work and could not find their authentic ingredients; to overcome this they used local ingredients to substitute. Nikkei was born.

Service was slow and bad.
Second visit to the restaurant. Stunning food and service. DJ was brilliant. Great place.
Great quality food. Was a bit too loud for my liking but overall, a great experience.
The ambience, music and food were outstanding. Very cool vibe ands food to match
However the meal took nearly 3 hours as the service was incredibly slow. At one point I had to threaten to leave if the next course didn't come as we'd waited nearly 40 mins.
Great food and atmosphere though we were disappointed at being charged £2 for a little hot sauce !!
I was really disappointed with the service. I already went to Blackroe which is way better in term of the overall experience.
Floor manager had attitude; condescending and rude. Not what you expect when the table takes the most expensive tasters menu (everytime we've been there)
The food was amazing and excellent service thank you Alex very professional. I’ll be back for sure.
Chotto Matte was recommended to me by a friend. He got it all right doing it. The place is really nice in all aspects, mood, design, athmosphere, staff and the food is delicious.
I recommend it strongly !
Good place for a drinks and sushi. However, music was too loud so could not speak with partner who was on the opposite side of the table, literally infront of me.
Great experience. Pre theatre menu was great value. Good service and a lovely atmosphere.
Service was fantastic and food was exceptional. Very friendly
The meals are great, and the staff provided great service. I have the service 4 stars because the time between each dish was too long and we had to call 3 times until one of the staff finally gave me my bill. Nevertheless, I went there at around four so it might just because of the time. Great restaurant in general!
Music is too loud, food is mediocre at best.
Octopus and eel were good but Considering the price-quality ratio you are better off going to a proper Peruvian or Japanese.
really cannot get the hype about this place. went for dinner and had the 9 course tasting menu @ £60. food was very instagrammable, but with the exception of the squid tempura, so unremarkable and lacking in flavour. a 3 star being generous. service though was to write home about: on a quiet mid week early (6:45pm) dinner, we were rushed through one dish after the other (twice we had to ask for the plate to be put back on the table as there was still food on it). after course number 3, a guy that acted like a manager came asking if we were still waiting for food or if we were done (?!?). the bill came with a 13.5% service charge, totally ridiculous. we entered at 6:45pm, and left at 8:00pm, after a very rushed, disappointing, overpriced experience. will not return and certainly won't recommend either
Will definitely come back. Amazing service and food!
Seats are very low and tables are very close to each other. We were served by several different people, waited over 1h for a simple order, everything was served separately at different times and the portions were tiny. Service was very friendly but won’t be going there again...
Great vibe, great food. Only slight Noam was that the sea bass ceviche was a little light on bass.
Great spot! Highly recommend - food was fantastic and honestly the value for money was much better than expected
We arrived a few minutes before our reserved time and were seated right away. The service , presentation , taste, wine pairing , all executed perfectly . Would definitely go back again when ever in Amsterdam.
Loved everything from ambience to service. Waitress Veronica was so nice took care in even a very busy time which was marvellous. Would definitely love going back.
Excellence service. Food nice. The only problem is the noise.
Delicious food in a chic atmosphere with great service
Only reason I’ve given a 4* not 5 is that we had ordered a vegetarian pre theatre box each and initially 2 NON veggie were delivered. An error by the kitchen staff but apologies were made by several members of staff. It wasn’t a problem for us but may have offended others and did leave us a little tight on time to get to the theatre.
Location molto curata con un’ottima atmosfera, servizio e cibo eccellenti.
Great variety of tasty food with a sharing concept
Food was excellent, the service a little bit slow but very nice. Place to recommend
There wasn't enough space between tables. Once the restaurant was full it was hard to walk between tables without bumping into other patrons.
Not my first time at Chotto Matte, nor my last. I'd always gone there for client lunches (as a client), so this was my first time going there for a personal meal. Had one of the taster menus, and it was still so delicious. Took my mum as a treat, and it was a great idea. We were full after about the 5th plate.
I would fully recommend the sea bass cerviche. We were sad when it was finished. It really was such a delicious dish.
Service was good too. The maitre'd was a lot of fun to talk to, and the hostess was lovely. The waiting staff were so attentive, and making sure to clear the plates as soon as we were done. Really made my mum feel comfortable.
Great food and atmosphere. Super tasty. Service was slow however and some servers were pretty ignorant and unenthusiastic, you’d expect better for a restaurant at this price point.
Really slow service
Staff didn’t clear away empty glasses and a friend moved some beer bottle to table next so he could make space. Waitress came over and said is this your bottle. And put back on our table rather than clear away to kitchen
I love this place! Amazing food. Funky vibe with unique decor...I was just disappointed with the cleanliness of the toilets this time. 2 toilets downstairs were out of use and one that hadn’t been cleaned. Both downstairs and upstairs toilets were just in need of some tlc (and better lighting). Not what I would expect from a place that is on the more expensive end of the scale.
We booked a pre-theatre slot for two, knowing nothing about Chotto Matte other than its positive reviews in OpenTable.
We were delighted to find that our experience echoed the reviews.
Chotto Matte is a sophisticated place for a young crowd to hang out and eat creative Nikkei (Peruvian Japanese fusion) dishes, that are expertly cooked, beautifully presented and delicious to eat.
The menu was interesting, varied and creative. Knowing the other Peruvian Japanese restaurants in London, Chotto Matte is clearly determined to plough its own furrow, and is all the better for it.
Service was prompt, discreet and present.
Our table for two felt squeezed in alongside two other tables, however this was the only negative part of the overall experience.
Dishes started arriving soon after our order was taken and continued in a timely manner throughout.
We’re looking forward to returning for a more length and leisurely experience without the clock watching that inevitably comes with a pre-theatre dinner.
Great food - good music.
Nice place to be with friends on a Friday!
Quality of the food has changed and it became too expensive for what it is
Gentle buzz but not romantic atmosphere - perfect for an intimate birthday meal. Food came out quickly, however when I asked about a previous dish I had, the waiter confidently pointed to a different one (still good, but not what I was looking for).
Would go again
What a truely great experience! Loved it. For me, it wasn't cheap but it was absolutely worth it as a treat. We went for the £60pp taster menu and I have nothing to complain about. The only reason I rated the ambience as 4/5 is because I found the music a little too loud but otherwise everything was really great.
The pre-theatre menu is a delicious glimpse into what Chotto Matte is all about: a fusion of taste from two cultures steeped in tradition & flavour. The cocktail menu has extensive options to satisfy all. Chotto has an extensive spirits list that will surprise even the seasoned connoisseur.
The thing that stood out the most was the service. I never found myself wanting, everything was provided for without even having to ask. Our waiter, Joshua, was especially attentive to our dining experience - if the owner/manager reads this review please make sure Joshua gets the consideration he deserves.
Food was absolutely amazing especially the black cod.
The restaurant is superbly decorated & the staff very pleasant
The only criticism I have is the dessert wasn’t all that good
Definitely a place to visit & set in a very cool area of Soho.
Wall art was brilliant & the seating very comfortable
Gets very busy so best to book a table early
Amazing night, staff super nice. The dishes were okay, and other dishes really tasty. Good vibes in the restaurant with an amazing intern
