What is Nikkei?
Years ago Japanese immigrants travelled to Peru for work and could not find their authentic ingredients; to overcome this they used local ingredients to substitute. Nikkei was born.

Chotto Matte was our favourite restaurant in London for a long time, this visit was a train wreck!
Service was appalling, wine was not bought to the table, food was wrong, some dishes never appeared, the bill was for the wrong table and just the whole experience was a shambles.
If you’d like to eat food sporadically in a night club atmosphere where you’re shouting at the top of your voice to communicate with your partner so that you’re sure to have a sore throat the next day, coupled with unnecessarily pretentious person controlling if they deem you worthy to have the table you booked or not (but only after making you wait at the bar that you couldn’t get near to for a table for 15 mins that was sitting empty since you arrived) then this is the place for you. Only the fact that they barmaid knew her Gins and sone of the food was decent is this not two stars. I hardly ever comment but wouldn’t recommend this place for a date.
The food was amazing. Having been here for the second time I was wondering whether the standard would math our fist time round. Well it did and more. The service was great all round. The only unfortunate thing was there was a child that was provided by their parent a mobile phone and proceeded to play a game on speaker. What can you do when parents think that this is acceptable. Anyway I can't knock the team and Chotto Matte. They were fantastic and the food exquisite.
Service is still so bad
The food was really great with very high quality of every dish we ordered! The atmosphere is vibrant and creates a very nice Ambiente for a night out. Also the staff was very friendly overall and put effort in making us feel welcome.
Sadly, the waiting time overall until some dishes were served and also the time until someone first came so that we can order were a bit long...probably rather due to the fact that it was very busy ...as mentioned already the waiters/waitresses did their best!
Otoro was not fresh, and the waiter was not courteous at all.
As always with this place, beautifully presented food, delicious taste and variety from the menu. Quick service and knowledgable waiters. Great atmosphere, music could be turned down a little, but that’s really the only bad thing about it. Yes this meal will cost a little more than you might like but as an occasion, its our favourite fancy date night location, it’s top on our list.
We booked a table for three people and were force to sit at counter as we were told there are no table for 3 people
I find this unacceptable when there were loads of tables that were accommodated and available for other people.
Food great and our waiter excellent but the host was terrible
The pre-theatre menu was delicious and really good value. We got to try a lot of different dishes from the many kitchens and had a glass of prosecco each for c.£60 for two people
Fantastic food and great ambient!
Special thanks to Simon who treated us exceptionally!
Will come back for sure.
Fantastic food as always, service was great.
The seats downstairs aren’t the most comfortable but otherwise a great meal
Not only was the food delicious as always, but the service was exceptional. Coming into a busy place with crutches isn't easy, but the staff helped make our experience very comfortable and enjoyable.
Gorgeous food, unique and flavoursome, party atmosphere with delicious cocktails. On the pricey side but the tasting menu is a wonderful combination of taste, flavour and colour. Totally recommend it.
On the expensive side, but definitely worth it! We had the bento boxes, which were delicious and well worth the £22
I would definitely recommend it to all my friends and colleagues. This was a business lunch and I can't fault it on any level. The food was delicious and service excellent.
We had quite a strange experience here - I have given the food 4/5 as it was delicious, but the service was so erratic that it made it hard to enjoy the experience. I ordered a main and side, my friend ordered sashimi, miso soup and a portion of rice. Her miso soup came, then her rice a little later, then nothing for ten minutes. I had no food in front of me when a staff member asked us how everything was - so I was forced to say I didn't know, as none of my food had come. Eventually my side arrived on its own, then another wait, so I ate my side and my friend had her rice on its own, and drank her soup. Then my main came, and still no sign of her six pieces of sashimi (which ought to have been the quickest thing to prepare!). Eventually it turned up.
The restaurant was almost empty, with only two or three other tables occupied, so it's not that the staff were rushed off their feet. It's a shame - my poke bowl and 'dirty plantain chips' were both very nice!
Fun ambiance, especially the wall! Very good service, attended to by people all looking after different elements. The food was exceptional, up there with the best sushi we have had. It was an anniversary meal and the sort of place, given the price we would go to for special occasions.
Very friendly staff, amazing cocktails, food was divine, cocktails top notch. Absolutely loved it!
Do! Not! Miss!
Chotto Matte is a restaurant I am going for the second time. It is a nice experience, but it has a few disadvantages. The service is slow and they can't hear you because of how loud the music is. Also we ordered lots of dishes and they brought them in a very wrong sequence, meaning starters last. Also they forgot 2 dishes. Overall I would recommend it to someone who can manage to go for dinner and speak loudly throughout. The temperature of the first floor was very hot, so wear something summery.
Noisy place, it is hard to speak, impossible to keep a conversation. The food is just average quality, disguised with sauces and little light. Some staff need adequate training, some of them are probably low-pay aporentices. The manager was quite professional. Place for fashion socialites, not recommendable for people looking for good food and/or enjoying a nice dinner speaking with family/friends
Very good service and some excellent dishes on the chefs menu
Delicious food, phenomenal service and beautiful place!
the concierge were a bit slow in attending to us (party of 3) but that was the only negative. The service after that was impeccable and courteous.
There was so much to chose from on the menu. We ended up going for the sharing platter with a few extras thrown in. Every dish was amazing and will definitely visit again in the near future.
Having recently returned from Lima I was interested to see if London could do Nikkei cuisine as well. Overall the food was very good but a bit pricey. The pisco sours weren't as good as the ones you'll find in Peru or Chile but they weren't bad. The service was slightly chaotic but that might of been because staff were a bit thin on the ground (maybe because it was a bank holiday). Everyone in our party said they would return again so it gets the thumbs up from me.
Lovely food and lovely environment. My only criticism is that I had to ask two separate people for a drink and their reply was that they would get my waiter. The first person did not get my waiter promptly enough and neither did the second person that I asked. It was only when the manager came that I was able to order my drink again for the third time. Apart from that, it was great.
Not much needs to be said. Absolutely amazing food, great vibe, not ridiculously expensive. Highly recommend. Been twice now, 10/10
Good food, drink and atmosphere. Would definitely go back
Our late lunch at Chotto Matte was strange, but in a good way overall.
We are of an older generation and it seemed a young person's haunt.
Surely Peruvian and Japanese is an unusual mixture! It was new to us and we could have done with more helpful guidance in what to try. But when the food came it was all delicious, albeit unlike anything we have had before.
Apart from the initial lack of help to guide us through the menu the waiters were very good.
So if you want good food that might be slightly unusual for you, in a less traditional setting this could be just right for you. We enjoyed it, as a one-off. We probably wouldn't go back but only because we are of the wrong age-group.
I’m afraid we were really disappointed as we had heard this is a great restaurant to visit
We were early table booked for 4 pm we got there at 315 - and were able to sit immediately
The service was really awful everyone was polite but they seemed unable to cope with everything- the food was ok but not very warm - once the manager was aware he became very attentive and they did agree to remove service charge
We were waiting 35’ for ordering. Service was nice with us but very busy
The dishes came in a crazy order, maim without the side for example
Too much noice
First time here and certainly ticked all the boxes with our expectations from reviews and word of mouth. Good energy, lovely food and top people!
Loved every minute and every bite of our stay!
The waitress told us to order 9 dishes for 3 people. It was far too much. We had to cancel one order and take home 3 dishes!
Wasn’t impressed with the staff at all. Some dishes were delicious (yellow tail and truffle) others were very bland (duck).
Our second time there and quite disappointing compared to the first one.
We were sat downstairs, which is very lound and with no privacy (= all the tables one over the other).
Food was good but service was quite bad. We were kept waiting for our table, regardless of having a reservation and the room being clearly plenty of tables open.
We had to wait a long time to get the order and other tables seated after us were served before...
even between the different dishes we had to wait forever. Service was distracted and not qualified given the prices on the menu.
Great food, trendy atmosphere great staff and yummy
soulless restaurant with uninspired food and waiters
Tasty food, but over priced and wine incredibly over priced. Would I recommend? No. Would I come back? No. Did I enjoy the food? Yes. Tweak the service and lower the prices and I’d reconsider.
Food is unreal, service is fairly good.
Overall a positive experience, although we waited too long for drinks
