Best Contemporary Mexican Restaurants in Montbello

Mezcalería Alma is one of those rare restaurants that excels not only in food and drinks, but in hospitality. The food is consistently outstanding (the tres leches is non-negotiable), the mezcal program is among the best I've experienced, and every visit feels thoughtful and intentional. What truly sets Alma apart, however, is the people. The staff create an atmosphere that feels warm, welcoming, and genuinely joyful. Whether you're visiting for the first time or returning as a regular, they have a remarkable ability to make every guest feel seen and cared for. On my most recent visit, I found myself chatting with a couple celebrating their 10-year anniversary, sharing recommendations, taking photos for them, and watching them fall in love with the restaurant the same way I did. That's the magic of Alma—it's more than a meal; it's a place where people connect. Denver has many great restaurants, but very few places create a sense of community the way Mezcalería Alma does. The Michelin star is well deserved. Come for the food and mezcal, stay for the hospitality, and don't leave without ordering the tres leches.

Can't say enough good things about Tamayo. Our flight into DIA was delayed by over an hour and they graciously held our reservation even on a busy night. The delicious food and great service was a perfect end to a long day of travel! Highly recommend.

Everything was delicious. Ceviche, cornbread and tartare were highlights. Plan to go back next time we’re in town. Perfect evening.

El Jefe is now a staple for us and we cannot wait to come back again. Their happy hour menu is so nice and the food is AMAZING! Love the staff too. They also have a stellar kids menu. My one year old loved it!

Very good place. We were early and the only ones in there, so kinda assumed service would be better...server was just kinda slow...bit after order, food came really quick. Octopus was very delicious. Be careful, the tan sauce on the side is SPUCY AF! Very good though...to many carrots to my liking, but enough of everything else. The Enmonada with Pink Mole was interesting...we weren't expecting the Pink Mole to be a cold sauce, so that was just a bit weird, cold sauce over the hot enmonadas. Tasted good though. The 2 cocktails we tried were really good...Just the bartender/server was slow making them. If it was busy in there, I can see that your meal could take a very long time
