The new space is impressive, with interior design by Stephen Hart and unique crockery from Robert Gordon giving FRITES a stylish vibe, but as always it’s the amazing Belgian beer selection – over 80 choices, including traditional monk-in-a-monastery-made trappiste options – and gorgeous European food that makes FRITES hard to beat, from succulent sausages and schnitzels to their famous bucket of mussels with intriguing dressings. The food on offer is diverse, from small plates ideal for bar snacks and sharing to hefty pork knuckles and a half-metre-long Belgian sausage. FRITES is never quiet so it’s always good to book ahead – especially for their great express business lunch during the week or their generous five-hour ‘happy hour’ – but you’ll always be glad you did.
