Service was impeccable. Food was outstanding. Noise level was pretty high making conversation difficult, but that was likely a one-off due to the obnoxiously loud table sitting next to us….no fault of the restaurant. It’s a cool setting with great food and service. If you’re looking for a high end experience with a high end meal, this spot definitely fits the bill.

Fusion / Eclectic
Downtown
About the restaurant
We know the word "fusion" has been wielded about to justify everything from Hula Burgers to Mexican lasagna. But the East-meets-South brand of fusion happening at Poor Calvin's? It's creative; it's innovative; and it's probably unlike anything you've tasted in the ATL. After working in kitchens around the world, Calvin Phan wanted to shake things up a little. And so, into the mac 'n cheese, the Thai spices went. Now, Calvin's giving Southern staples, like sea bass and fried chicken, a decidedly creative Asian-inspired twist (and a nip of spice, too). He has created innovative dishes, approached in much the same way, leave the hands of Calvin Phan day in and day out. His dedication and attention to detail are evident in each dish and dessert. You won't be disappointed.

About the restaurant
According to Zagat, This "excellent" local spot where Va-Highlanders meet is known for its "great patio" and "good, reasonably priced sushi and Thai food"; it's a mystery why it's "rarely crowded", but "those who love it" and want to keep it all to themselves "hope it stays that way."

Another excellent dinner at Ma Li Last evening. The spring rolls were so fresh and then the red curry with shrimp 🦐 was fantastic. Spicy but just enough heat ♨️. Expecting that, I had a cold beer and it was the perfect pairing.

Elizabeth was OUTSTANDING. We had a great time, the food was delicious, the recommendations she made were excellent. We had a great new wine that is now our new favorite and the dessert sampler is probably one of the best things you can get.
