Covington
About the restaurant
Tavi is an Israeli restaurant serving made-to-order pita from a wood-fired oven, elaborately finished hummus plates, and small and large plates drawing from the same modern Israeli inspiration as its sister restaurant, Shaya. The name Tavi is inspired by the Hebrew word meaning “good or beloved” and that’s what Tavi aims to deliver to the Covington community. Executive Chef Fariz Choumali leads the kitchen and brings his Lebanese Roots to life through staples from the Shaya menu plus new dishes. The menu will highlight an array of small plates, hummus, sandwiches, and slow-roasted meats.

I’m repeat customer/diner. Love the hummus. Fried chicken or the lamb you can’t go wrong. I tried the lamb burger. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. Great flavor, wasn’t expecting 2 patties but it was tough and dry. Will be back for other food but pass on the lamb burger

Atchafalaya is a true New Orleans neighborhood eatery where the eclectic yet elegant atmosphere is only outshone by the attentive service and delicious local fare. Nestled under the oaks on the edges of the Irish Channel, Magazine Street, and historic Garden districts, this hidden gem is one the best contemporary Creole dining experiences that one can find in the city. Neighbors, locals, and out of towners alike will become regulars after experiencing the brand of hospitality offered by New Orleans’ only five “A” restaurant. The introductions of brunch, live music, cocktails, and now an extensive happy hour continue the newest culinary chapter for a storied local haunt, embracing New Orleans’ culinary culture while placing contemporary spin on traditional New Orleans cuisine.

About the restaurant
Shaya restaurant marries Israeli staples with Southern flavors and modern techniques, striking a balance between innovation and tradition. Shaya approaches Israeli cuisine as a grand mosaic, drawing influence and inspiration from North Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Turkey and Greece. The contemporary menu reflects the ongoing evolution of Israeli food and celebrates the abundance of Louisiana. Shaya highlights seasonal, responsibly- and locally-sourced ingredients.

The wood-fire oven is central to both the menu and the dining experience, from the incredible homemade, wood-fired pita to vegetable-centric small plates and heartier entrees. Many of the dishes on the diverse menu are meant to be shared and enjoyed throughout many courses.

We had good service and great food for our lunch here. I ordered the Mediterranean Mint Tea which is served in a pitcher which fills several glasses. It was very tasty and refreshing. Two pitas fresh out of the oven were served first with a side of za’atar spiced olive oil. The pita was fluffy and light. I’d never had anything like it and will forever be comparing all future pita to this one. We ordered the Lamb Ragu Hummus, which ended up being the bulk of our meal. The ragu was absolutely delicious. It had a deep tomato flavor which complimented the well seasoned lamb. And the creamy hummus was a contrasted by the crispy chickpeas. We also ordered a small plate of the Falafel served on green tahini with pickled cabbage. These were crisp with a bit of a grassy flavor from the green tahini. We hope to return on another visit to try the Sunil Pide and Kvaroy Salmon which look delicious.

This is one of the best dinners I’ve had in a long time. I took a number of the review suggestions and ordered them. Started with the lobster dumplings, beet salad, swordfish (hubby), scalibut (me), then the salty malty ice cream for dessert. The scalibut was AMAZING! The rolls were over the top. I was worried about the dessert because I am not a malt fan but this dessert was so good. Highly recommend GW Fins, but make a reservation as this restaurant is extremely popular. Note there is a dress code. But the dress code is very reasonable.
