Love Fat Canary
Keith was amazing and chef Tommy never disappoints.
I brought my friend here for her birthday and they made her feel very special from start to finish. They were able to do a special dessert tasting and they even gave her a signed menu with her name on it. The drinks were fantastic and much larger than I would normally anticipate (essentially a 2 for 1 in my opinion) and all of the food was fantastic. Highly recommend and would definitely come back again in a heartbeat!
Over all the food and service was outstanding, however I can only give 4 stars for this review. I made our reservation on April 8th and requested a menu tasting with wine pairing for my husband's birthday. We didn't hear from Fat Canary until the afternoon of our dinner. They called to confirm our reservation and when I asked about the special request they said that they couldn't do it. It would have been nice to know more than 3 hours before our reservation. Disappointed the way this was handled. We did do a menu tasting last November for our 25th anniversary and it was absolutely amazing. That was 5 stars.
As good a meal as we have had in the pass 2 years
We dined here for our 30 year Anniversary. The menu came with all the staffs well wishes and Printed Happy Anniversary at the top. Nice surprise. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The food was AMAZING! Loved the lobster pasta appetizer and the foi gras appetizer. It was a Lovely Evening for a Great Celebration 🙌❤️!
Overall delicious! When your food arrives, it is plated beautifully and more than you expect from the menu descriptions.
The Macadamia Nut Pie for dessert was fabulous, with whole nuts! All thumbs up👍
Our server was awesome. Her recommendations were great. We were there for our 31st wedding anniversary so the restaurant gave us a special menu (very sweet and appreciated). The food was very well prepared and balanced. The table felt a bit crowded. (Table for two). The pricing seemed high (for the salad and alcohol). We loved eating here and recommend it overall.
The food, our server and her recommendations, were amazing. It is an impeccable establishment.
Great Food, Great Staff, Great Restaurant - This is our favorite place to eat in Williamsburg.
Great place for dinner, however the noise level has gone up since last visit.
Will always return....
Celebrated my husband’s birthday and the first indication this would be an amazing evening was a call from a staff member asking for how to spell my husband’s name so they could personalize a menu for him. That was unexpected! Our server Jessica greeted us with joy and enthusiasm, and helped create a night to remember. She guided us beautifully with our menu choices, shared why she loves working at Fat Canary, and even taught us a few things about food and drink. Not to be missed or downplayed was the food. Three courses with a variety of dishes selected, each one seemingly better than the previous. This was our first indoor dinner since the pandemic and everyone felt as comfortable as could be.
We were celebrating our anniversary and they presented us with the menu printed with our names on it and all the staff had signed it!
The food was fabulous!
Dinner was great. Due to the pandemic the table spacing was excellent. Once that is over I would be worried about the closeness of the tables. Would not allow for much privacy.
We ordered the special, a delicious rockfish/shrimp combo. Splendid. The only thing that topped it was the appetizer: mozzarella/ham rollups adorned with skinless cherry tomatoes in a light and tasty sauce. The wine choices are quite delightful, and I had an opportunity to purchase two bottles at retail price of my favorite pinot noir. The restaurant was quite busy (no surprise there!), and our waiter (who had waited on us before) seemed to be struggling to keep up. He forgot our wine order, and we had to wait too long for our initial drinks.
Creative menu exceptionally executed.
The Fat Canary is usually outstanding, however this visit was a just little underwhelming. Nothing was exactly wrong, it just didn't WOW us. I had just been to the restaurant several weeks ago and got the lobster fettucinne which was outstanding that night. This past visit it was just "fine". Seemed to be missing some flavor somedwhere. Also, for dessert, I had the madeleines the previous visit which were outstanding. This time they actually came out slightly burned and not warm in the least. I will certainly visit again when in Williamsburg, maybe it was just an off night for the kitchen.
Absolutely amazing meal! Better than expected. The bourbon bisilica cocktail was perfect and so was the beef tenderloin. Highly recommend!
The food is always good but this visit it was “out of the park”. I had all the specials, onion soup, rock fish and ice cream bananna/caramel. All delish. The rock fish had veggies with a dollop of chive butter and other flavors that make my mouth water just writing about it! Fish cooked to perfection. The soup - roasted onion with pine nuts and do not know what else but the flavor profile and consistency was perfect If I were asked to improve on the experience (I am really picking now....)....whisper of hot fudge on the dessert and get a second bartender. Took more than 20 minutes to get a cocktail. I would have had another one if it did not take so long! Fabulous cosmo when it did finally arrive and the waiter apologized. This place is a remarkably consistent fabulous restaurant and we are “foodies”. Wish we lived closer!
Another perfect evening starting with our drinks ready at our favorite table. Appetizers of the famous lobster lemon fettuccine and a wonderful onion soup followed by the beef tenderloin and the rockfish special topped with chive butter-wonderful! Dessert was our usual chocolate mousse cake and an ice cream special- banana! Service was, as always, perfection- thanks Keith. The only thing wrong with the evening was the information that Tanya would be leaving- we will miss you and thank you for all the years you have always accommodated our requests and made our evenings perfect. Col Crayon also thanks you for supplying him with his drawing materials every time
Exceptional food and service, though obtaining a reservation is difficult in these times due to limiting capacity. Well worth the trouble to plan ahead a few days when reservations are available.
One of the best meals we have had in a long time. Oysters were fantastic, drinks were amazing, and the pork chop and rockfish were divine. Our server was personable and attentive. We will definitely make the drive back just to eat here.
Last night we had an outstanding dinner at Fat Canary. Jessica was our server and she was the perfect blend of professionalism, friendliness, and knowledge. When people ask me what my favorite restaurant is, I always say Fat Canary, and I will continue to say that. The foie gras blows us away every time and our pork chop entree was perfection. In addition to our dinner, it was so cool to be able to go downstairs and shop for retail wine while we awaited our entree! We both work in fine dining, so it was lovely to sit back, be pampered and taken care of, and to watch the perfect orchestration of the front and back of house make it a memorable evening for all of their guests.
Simply the best! French wine was fantastic. Food was hot and juicy. Service impeccable.
Always a great meal with wonder service
This is our favorite restaurant on Hampton roads route. Food, service, ambiance and value all of it is just a pleasure. We never miss a chance to visit travelling this route to or from Virginia Beach and appreciate their resilience to the challenge of pandemic situation unlike many other restaurants they didn't quit and that says a lot! Thank you Fat Canary, we'll be coming back time and again.
Best and most consistent restaurant I have been to East of the Rockies...a great and friendly staff too!
Active kitchen, Samantha was an attentive server, food was very good (salmon a bit dry/overcooked).
The vegetables were excellent.
The food was innovative and well executed. Don't forget the great deserts!!
We have eaten at thousands of restaurants and THIS is our new favorite. Everything from mixed drinks, apps (must try foie gras!), filet, and hazelnut pie was perfect. Do not miss the chance to enjoy this place.
This place has become our go to date night spot! Every time I go it’s consistently great. Food and service, nothing short of spectacular.
Vacationing from Massachusetts, checked it out based on reviews and it was well worth the visit, heritage pork chop was excellent.
Wonderful food and great service! Wasn't thrilled with our table as we had people traversing on both sides of us.
They were running a bit late with our table, but very apologetic. William is an excellent server and the food and menu are always consistent. We both enjoyed excellent dinners and a dessert.
Great good n service
Amazing food and service.
Riley did a nice job of taking care of us throughout our meal. Usually when we visit Williamsburg we visit this restaurant for an unrushed and relaxing dinner. This was the first time that it seemed noisy and frantic, but it is also the first time where we saw more families with young children dining there. It is a smaller more intimate restaurant so an unhappy and tired one year old interfered a little with our celebration dinner.
Reservations honored promptly. Host/hostess friendly, waitstaff knowledgeable, attentive, but not obnoxious. My salad, a greens/pear with soft cheese balls and balsamic vinaigrette, was absolutely delicious. Entrees—grilled rockfish with potatoes and mushrooms served with crisp green beans for my husband; grilled salmon with lentils and mixed veggies for me—were hot and tasty. Dining room is modern, clean, quiet, candlelit. Perfect location in Market Square right off the historic district. Make reservations early!
The food was fabulous! We really enjoyed the lightly fried oysters and a cheeseboard as an appetizer. The short ribs were perfection and the scallops were absolutely delicious. We love the cocktail menu and especially enjoyed the house bourbon old fashion!
