- NNicoleGoldPhiladelphia County •5 reviews5.0Dined 4 days agoI unexpectedly found myself dining alone in a new to me city and came upon an open reservation at Rioja. The award winning status and creative menu intrigued me so I jumped in and was so glad I did. The service was unbelievable, so personable and unrushed. I received great feedback and dialogue about the menu, which I really enjoyed, being a self proclaimed foodie. The menu had lots of room for a single diner to make choices that didn’t overwhelm but allowed to taste. Everything I had was outstanding! The pork belly appetizer had great layers of flavor and was so tender. The artichoke tortellini in the truffle brodo was my favorite from my meal- such an interesting combination of textures and flavors and it was cooked beautifully. I had the asparagus “wedge” salad which had the most amazing confit egg yolk that I couldn’t get enough of. The bread service was a great variety and I couldn’t pick a favorite- all so good!! They treated me with a small tasting of the artichoke soup that I have been thinking about ever since - every bite was like a new treasured taste. I loved that they had lots of alcohol free drinks to choose from and I had a Spanish sparkling wine that elevated the experience for my meal. To end the meal, the whole dessert menu was incredible so I struggled to choose. I decided on the house made ice creams/sorbets with the addition of a single beignet. The lace cookie that lined the trio of flavors was such a good accompaniment to my three chosen flavors - lemon ice cream, fig sorbet and watermelon sorbet. The watermelon was a surprise favorite for me. The fig and goat cheese beignet was the perfect last sugary bite. Highly recommend Rioja- this place is a gem!!More infoRioja$$$$• Mediterranean• Downtown / LoDo•4.7
