House of Prime Rib
The best red meat in town. They do one thing and do it superb: Prime Rib. This isn’t Las Vegas, buffet prime rib. This rivals any choice cut of steak I’ve ever had. What a divine dining experience!
I lucked out and had Inessa as my server for the second straight time in two weeks. She is a real pro and veteran server to match the fantastic, juicy and succulent beef that gives me nightmares of joy and craving. Always get the Henry VIII cut and bloody rare, that dude was not into the MeToo movement unfortunately......
Honestly I was unsure if it’d be worth the money and the hype...AND IT WAS. I was genuinely surprised by how much it lived up to its name and its hype.
I would not come back here. I made reservations ahead of time. It was my friends birthday and I let them know that when they called to confirm the reservation, and also when we got there. What they did for the birthday was absolutely nothing. Not a happy birthday, not a song, not a thing. The dining room was so unbeliveable hot that it made it unpleasant to eat. We were literally sweating. We told the server about that and her response was "Oh really?" I ordered the House cut of the prime rib and what arrived was a piece of meat with some huge bone in it. Which I did not order. They acted like it was special that they threw in this bone, but infact it was a piece of meat that was cut for another table that was sent back, as they did not like it when presented to them at the table. It was the table next to us and I saw this happen. Overall a bad experiance. I think these people are busy and they really just don't care any more. For $175 for dinner for two, I expected alot more
Second time at the iconic House of Prime Rib the other night and what an incredible second time it was! I may or may not still be in a food coma from all the deliciousness I had...but once again, no regrets whatsoever. Well, maybe just one, wish I had a bigger appetite to finish everything LOL.
The prime rib is so tender, juicy and flavorful -- it's mouthwatering! Every bite is blissful! The creamed spinach and mashed potatoes are the perfect sides to enjoy the glorious cut. However, you also have the option of choosing a baked potato or creamed corn. Whatever combo you decide, you won't be sorry about it! All options are super tasty.
For about $50, you get bread w/ butter, salad, your choice of cut plus two sides! Pretty good deal for such a stellar meal! You're free to bring your own bottle(s) of wine ($20-25 corkage fee per bottle) or you can choose from their extensive wine list.
Service has been exceptional the two times I've dined at HOPR! I particularly love when the server performs the salad-tossing show prior to serving it to the guests -- it's fun to watch hehe. Noise level is quite loud since the Old-English style restaurant is always busy and I mean, always -- which explains why you have to make a reservation months in advance.
Have lived in the Bay Area for 40 years and never made it to House of Prime Rib until now. I'd heard it was wonderful but it sounded kind of stodgy and looked (from the outside) kind of old fashioned. And that might all be true but it was a very fun experience with great food. The place is always packed!! At 6:00p on a Tuesday night, there wasn't one empty table. Our waiter was excellent. Fast, friendly and ready to help us make decisions. You get an amazing amount of food with your entree: salad, potato, yorkshire pudding and veg. All side dishes are excellent. I'd recommend the creamed corn (not on the menu but just ask for it) over the creamed spinach. I even had room for dessert and the strawberry shortcake was amazing. Needless to say, the prime rib was wonderful.
Our King cut was so believable thin, unlike all the other times we've dined there. Also, two of us asked for rare and they were more of a medium rare. It was quite disappointing.
The meal was quite delicious. The noice is present. I would recommend for a above average experience.
I recently went there but there was a staff walk out especially on the carvers. The food that was delivered to our table was little cuts etc. the wait was lengthy but they had no issue charging us full price when they openly informed ua that things were going to run poorly. I expected more from this restaurant - in the past it was excellent
Table for seven on a Monday night, and the place was humming. Consistently the best prime rib throughout the decades that we’ve been coming here, along with possibly the best pours of a martini in all of CA. The all-inclusive meal includes Yorkshire pudding, creamed spinach and/or creamed corn (fantastic as always), warm loaf of bread with creamy butter, and a house salad (with beets and a Thousand Island-type dressing). Never any skimping on anything — food, drink and SERVICE!
Great food wish you had more selections for the kids menu- my son doesn't eat steak would like to see a pizza or fries.
Not easy to reserve a table, unless you're pretty open on date and time, 30 minute wait upon arrival of your reservation is normal. Walk-ins can wait for a bar seating for the same food, but expect well over an hour or two.
Quality and value is always there, not too many places have better prime ribs than HOPR. Service is always great and friendly.
Best Prime Rib in San Francisco...plus all the extras...all in one price.
Food was amazing as always and portions are excellent sized! They make sure you have a great meal, leaving your tummy happy and full! :) Definitely recommend the English Cut, since it's a thinner and less dense slice of prime rib AND you are able to get a complimentary thinner slice at the end. The only complaint during my visit, was that there was a large group seated in our area who were extremely loud and members of their party kept yelling/shouting and seemed to be disrupting others' meals with their noise levels. Otherwise, meal and service was great and we will be returning.
Manuel was an amazing server. He was funny and diligent! The food was amazing and well worth the price!
Great food and experience. Server Manolo was funny and friendly. This was the reason for my Sfo stopover and it’s the best decision ever.
Kind of go-to place for all of our special occasions. Wife loves everything about this place. We even popped a 1989 cabernet for this occasion. They even summoned a sommelier to help with the uncorking the bottle.
Our waiter was extremely attentive as always.
The best restaurant for reminiscing with your oldest friends. Nothing but good times here. Everything was top notch from start to end.
Loved everything! Just wish we had an early reservation! 9pm
Always love going to house of prime rib, everything was great
Juicy favorable meat, love the salad and my martini with it's own shaker!
Need to book this restaurant far in advance. Oscar was an accommodating server, both efficient and patient. Can't say it was as good as Lawry's but it sure hits the mark in San Francisco.
Outstanding experience, start to finish. Simple menu, excellent service, great food (and so much of it). Thank you!
Great food and great service. I really enjoyed the mash and gravy.
ALWAYS AMAZING! ALWAYS A MILLION STARS!
The prime rib was outstanding. We had a large party and there isn’t much of a selection unless you want prime rib or sea bass. The sea bass is extremely fishy and just had a terrible after taste. We had various selection of prime rib at our table and all was delicious. The only thing I would suggest is get more meat options. Other than that, service and wine selection was great. Most definitely recommend!
This is a family tradition through the Thoma generations . It began when Thoma sheet metal in San Francisco did the sheet metal work in the kitchen and made the carts the prime rib is served from to this day.
We celebrate important occasions in our family and celebrations with our friends. We took our close lifelong friends this night and found out it was there first time , after a wonderful meal , great service ( Thanks Rick) a booth where they could see all The HOPR had to offer, they will go back with there family I’m sure.
We do miss Gus, wish there was a picture of him on the wall. He was a fixture for so many years and should be memorialized in some way.
The food was really great. I love the tenderness of the beef and all the delicious sides. The space between tables are a little too close that we could totally barely hear each across the table but cross heat the conversation going on next table fairly well. And watch out if you decided to use the valet parking, we lost some valuables that were in our car. Overall, great great food and so so environment.
We came on Sunday evening, we arrived early and got seated almost right away. As we were celebrating our anniversary we ordered two splits of sparkling wine and medium rare prime ribs. We both agree to come again next year
The server who serve us really have bad attitude and impatience toward my gf and her family...my gf mom doesn’t know English well and she was translating to her mom when server ask her how would you like the steak cook, but he kept on rushing them and then he left our table in the middle of the translation and roll his eyes and it only took my gf about 20 sec to translate...and this is her mom first time dine in there...really bad service and bad attitude , there are many other nicer steakhouse around and we make sure we are not going back there again...
This place is outstanding. We cone here 3 to 4 times a year from the Bay Area and we enjoy it every time l. The best prime rib ever
We had a wonderful time! The food is superb and the service was wonderful!
It is always a treat to have dinner here! My family has frequented this place for 3 generations and will continue to do so. Amazing atmosphere and the food is so good you will leave happy, full, and usually with a to go container! Love love love The House of Prime Rib.
I would have to say coming from the East Coast that the House of Prime Rib was without a doubt hands down the best Prime Rib around. The wait staff was plentiful and very attentive. They didn't rush you but were there for you. The meat comes from the midwest and it is exactly how you come to expect from a restaurant that boasts its prime rib. I wish that they were here in New York.................
When in San Fran this is a must go to place .............................
Heard a lot about it and put it on our B.L. it was delicious food, especially the salad...............MMMMMM
I might go back again with my kids to celebrate a birthday.
48 years, since I was a kid I have been coming to HOPR and for as long as I can remember this place has always made my dinner experience memorable and special. Thanks again from me and my family👍
We love the food and drinks. It’s out favorite place to eat in the city.
Parents were in town
This place really lays out the beef.....unfortunately we drank more than we ate by a 3-1 margin. From what I recall, our server by the name of Inessa was very outstanding and the huge cuts of succulent prime rib just fantastic! Got to say HoPR is the best joint in the city for meat-eaters.
