House of Prime Rib
Food was excellent. Service was outstanding. We had to wait about 30 min to be seated even we had a reservation but we were a bit late for the time. We were able to sit in the lounge to wait so I can't complain.
Always a treat and delight to eat at the affectionately called "HOPR." My guests and I had a terrific meal.
First time trying House of Prime Rib and it is definitely worth it. Would come back again!
Arrived early. Had a 9pm reservation and were seated at 9:45pm
We live an hour away from San Francisco. I would say that at least every other time we come to San Francisco we dine at the House of Prime Rib. We always say we should be trying other restaurants (and there are so many), but we can't seem to risk not having our fix from the House of Prime Rib. Always consistently delicious. Love the place!!
The food was divine and we had a wonderfully cooked steak. The service was impeccable and I will be there again as soon as I can get another reservation!!
The food was well-prepared and tasty with a couple of misses - the corn bread sticks which had no flavor, the blah, kind of soggy Yorkshire pudding and the three flavor cake which was drowned in a berry sauce & drizzled with sickly sweet Hershey syrup. My only complaint is about the too efficient bus boys. I dislike it when they start picking up plates before everyone at the table is finished. They swooped in every time one of us finished a dish. This practice interrupts your conversation and is rude because it pushes people to finish up. I know they want to turn tables but for the price I expect a slower pace, not coffee shop speed.
Awesome place to eat. I go here once a year and never seems to fail. Always do a 4pm reservation to guarantee seating right away, anything after, you have to wait until people are done eating. Always get the kings cut, because there are free seconds :)
Always a great experience...a classic!
Love the cocktail shakers!
Just wish it was easier to get a resy!😜
The best Prime Rib with a superb service! Our server elevated our dining experience to a level so incredible that we left the restaurant feeling happy and satisfied. Thank you, HOPR!
I wish I could have the chance to eat there more often. My wife and I always enjoy our time there.
I've been coming to House of Prime Rib for over ten years, but will not be back. My Dad introduced me long ago and I've been coming in for birthday celebrations (or just general cravings) ever since, even building a fun rapport with many staff. It's simply not the same place anymore. Ambiance hasn't changed, the food taste hasn't changed, but the quality and care are gone. Long story short, I ordered the House Cut and it was about half an inch in thickness. I inquired about it to our server who responded quite quickly that it was a "wide" piece. This is the only cut I ever order and after 10+ years I have never received a thin "wide" piece before. We were all pretty unhappy and it was either not noticed, or seen as a nuisance. I never really paid attention to the cost of the meal until this visit. The food taste is phenomenal and I enjoy the ambiance, so I figure that's what you're paying for. But if this is the new normal, I can't fathom paying close to $50 for such an abysmal quantity especially with so many options in the city. My Dad who was with me this visit agreed and neither of us will be back or recommend HOPR as a must-have anymore. Truly sad.
It was DELICIOUS!! We were a party of 6 and have a great time. Ordered a couple bottles of Cakebread which were reasonably priced. Defiantly will be returning soon!
Great food, fast service, good price!!!
Food is always outstanding. Service is great. Drinks are strong.
Food and service was great
For our first time there, the food and service was excellent. Shar, our server was sharp and a good conversationalist introducing the food and serving the salad at the table.
Been going for decades!
Have wanted to go for a while so on short notice took some work colleagues when in town this week...could only get a 9:30 reservation but called and they said show up early and maybe find some room...at 5:45 I arrived and talked to the front desk top plead our case, went to the bar and before our first drinks were done, they had set up a new table in the dining room for us and from there all went smooth...really appreciate the extra effort.
The 2 of us were first timers, and we will definitely be back! Food quality and service from staff was great. They were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable! $50 included the ribeye, mashed potatoes, creamed spinach’s & Yorkshire pudding... our bill was $110 in total including both of our meals and drinks but it was worth it. Thanks HOPR for giving us a great time away from our kids... lol we will be back!
Always a wonderful dinner at House Of Prime Rib! We'll be back next year!
This was such a disappointing experience for us. The waiter was totally off his game, couldn’t even remember to bring a drink or napkin. My husband ordered his cut rare, seared. The waiter set his food on a pedestal next to us and left it there for ten minutes...
I’m thinking, I hope that’s not his food! Then the chef cut mine and served the plate and the waiter actually served my husband the food that was cold he had left sitting! We were appalled! The food was bland and flavorless and the service was awful! At the end of the meal he failed to bring the espresso we ordered and even announced, “I’ve messed up 3 times with you tonight!”
Never again! Lawrys is LA will always be out go too.
Worth it all
Ordered most expensive cut of prime rib. It was almost entirely fat. Waiter only checked on me after I had a few bites and didn’t comp anything even after I nicely expressed my disappointment. Would never go back.
It was another amazing experience. the prime rib is the finest. My family for four generations have been coming and I am grateful that my children get to experience a San Francisco landmark.
HOP is a wonderful restaurant! Ambiance and service are terrific. Our waitress, Kelly, was friendly and relaxed. The prime rib, as always, was the best! Salad, creamed spinach and baked potato were all done well. Cocktails and wine terrific. What a bargain for a great meal in a consistently great restaurant.
Josef and Steve; you do a great job.
Great food, great deal, great drinks. My favorite place in the world.
Every time we are in SF, always insure we have dinner at House of Prime Rib and never have been disappointed until last Sunday. We were seated at the table for 2 on the isle near restrooms & next to us was a table of 6 who were seated after us. The service went done hill from there. One of lady's at the table, chair was up against our table! At that point we were forgotten about. Our salad sat behind me for 15 mins then potato's were brought out and sat for 7 mins. Never saw waiter again except at next take until he brought us the bill. What a shame this place normally awesome
THEEEEE best. Really good waiter too!! One of our favorite family spots. thank you
We arrived in San Francisco late, after a delayed flight in from Toronto. Zipped straight to dinner and enjoyed the freshly carved prime rib. Creamed veggie sides were on the salty side ... but learning that a lot of food in the States is over-salted. Overall, great time!
Every time I come here I have a spectacular meal. Tonight was no exception!
We used to love The House of Prime Rib but it has really gone down. The service was not good and there was a group of low life’s who were so loud we could not enjoy our dinner. I don’t think the management will much care about a negative review since they seem to have a long line of people waiting for a table.
We weren't thrilled about our table set up and how close we were to other diners but the quality of the food and service made up or it. It's loud so don't come expecting to have a quiet dinner.
Classic, cooked to perfection meal. Wonderful service. The noise level increases dramatically as the rooms fill with people but this shouldn’t deter you from enjoying a dinner here.
Been coming here for my husband’s birthday now for 4 straight years.
Ordered the House of Prime Rib cut and received the equivalent of a city cut with a very large rib attached. I should have requested a new piece but I didn’t want to bother the waiter. He seemed aloof and in a hurry to move us out as quickly as possible. I had to remind him to put a candle on the slice of cake we ordered too. Overall Disappointed in food and service for my husband’s birthday.
My birthday celebration
Great service and ambiance. Server is very friendly and aware of her food and drink.
One of the best prime rib places out there. The quality of the food is great and the menu is simple straight to the point good prime rib and sides.
It’s novel, very old fashioned.
They can cook a joint of beef exceptionally well but that’s about it... the portions of beef are huge but unfortunately everything else is just not good enough.
School dinner style powder mash potato, thin tasteless gravy, sloppy veg (tinned spinach)....
These guys learned to cook in the 80’s and haven’t changed since!
I have dined here many times. This was a huge disappointment. The drinks took forever. The salad was over dressed and to much seasoning salt. The prime rib was very tough and cold. The creamed spinach was not creamy like it usually is it was dry and not good. They’d did not even give my husband potatoes. My baked potato was under cooked. Even the Yorkshire puddings was cold and soggy. I always go on Friday night so being busy is no reason for these issues. My server told the manager and nobody even spoke to me about. Not sure when we will go back now.
