Hugo's Oyster Bar
A not so hidden gem with a New Orleans flair. Some cajun dishes but a good variety of seafood that's not too.
Valet was quick and free . We got there during brunch , our server may have been new she wasn’t sure if some other the drinks we asked about were available or what was in them. She did get any issues we had solved quickly. She however didn’t advise me that my food cane with bacon when i ordered a side of bacon so i have way too much bacon
Long time favorite was a bust on this night. Every restaurant has a bad day, so we will try it one more time, but a lot went wrong. When we arrived for our 8 PM reservation, the hostesses said we are running, consider having a drink at the bar. The bar was crowded and the bartender was overwhelmed. Everyone at the bar was eating - I guess because tables were not available, so there was little room to order a drink and the bartender was busy with food orders. We finally got a spot to order and had our drinks. our table was ready 45 minutes after it was supposed to be ready and I finally got the bartender's attention to close out our tab. To expedite things, I gave him my credit card. I got the bill and saw that he had overcharged us for our order. He was apologetic and went to fix it. He finally came back and said it was really difficult to fix and would it be OK if the bar bought me a drink at my table. I said that would be fine. They said they would speak to the waitress. When she arrived at my table, she said she was aware that the bar owed me a drink, so I ordered one of the same I had earlier. The food came, and for some reason, the recipe used for our favorite roasted oysters was different tonight. I guess a different chef. The salads were also smaller and mine had noticeably less crab meat. When the bill came, I noticed I was charged for the free drink. The waitress fixed it, but we left there questioning what had happened to this place. We will probably try it more more time, but fear it has changed.
Bar service took more than expected to get a drink. Also we waited for a table for quite sometime and it seemed that those who came in after us and complained were seated before us.
I am hoping it was an off night for Hugo's due to their busy celebration earlier in the day. Our friends ordered a bottle of champagne and we were told later that what they ordered was all out. The bartender did come directly to tell us that information and took care of our first round of drinks. My husband and I had already ordered cocktails and when the waitress brought our drinks, she said that the bar had accidentally made an extra of the drink my husband had ordered, so she left that for him. That drink looked like it had been sitting at the bar for a while because it looked watered down, so we didn't worry about it. We ordered appetizers and the server brought us 1/2 dozen oysters when we ordered a dozen, so she had to go back and order another 1/2 dozen. We ordered entrees and when they came, parts of mine was cool and parts were hot. I had salmon that was served over sweet potatoes and parts of the potatoes were warm and parts cool. Not sure why. For dessert we wanted 2 orders of beignets and were told that there were not any more beignets. When we got the check, we were charged for the watered down drink that was left for my husband. We didn't say anything since he did have 2 drinks, but I didn't think it should have been on our bill since it was accidentally made. I am hoping that due to the crawfish celebration earlier in the day was the reason for the issues. We will make sure not to go one one of those nights next time. Usually we have a great experience.
My wife and I have eaten several times and this latest visit has been our only negative experience. The oysters as always are fantastic! The restaurant was busy last night, but the service was ridiculously slow!
We love this place. There are 50 great restaurants closer to us than Hugo's but we drive the 30+ minutes every couple of months to experience this fun restaurant. They do the best 'red fish dish' ever - it's on a cast iron skillet and amazing.
Our service was poor, food was cold and over priced.
Great food and service. We had a nice family dinner thanks to the staff.
If you want really good oysters and a boisterous environment in which to enjoy them, then this is the place for you. As the decor would indicate, Hugo's has a New Orleans/Mardi Gras feel to it. If you want to be able to carry on a real conversation with your significant other or are in the mood for something other than oysters, best look elsewhere. Wait staff was middling at best, not real attentive but didn't forget about us either.
Hugos has a unique vibe compared to other Roswell area restaurants - its cozy, friendly but has that certain extra something - maybe not predictable - in a good way! This was my third visit - I had the grilled rainbow trout - it was good but didnt wow me. Brittany our server was really pleasant and attentive.
Great environment, food, drinks and energy. Top night !
The Paresan Flounder was a flop in my book. Too sweet. But the three others in my party really enjoyed their food. Enjoyed the open air dining and the praline beignets for dessert were delicious. I would not say this was a $ restaurant though, as rated on Open Table. Many of the entrees we're in the $20-30 range. To us on our budget, that's more like $$.
We have eaten at Hugos many, many times. It is always consistently good and very fast service.
Excellent food. Our server Blake was knowledgeable and provided great recommendations. We really enjoyed him.
The service here is always great and the food is high quality. Lunch and dinner are both a treat for my wife and I as well as the occasional business lunch. It is nice to have this little gem a bit off the Roswell path as they have their own parking and offer valet service.
Met good friend for 1pm lunch on Tuesday. Was not very crowded at all. Food was terrific. Baja Tacos and my friend had the Salmon salad and both were terrific. Beignets were decadently fantastic.
Took forever to get cocktails. Food service was better but not great.
The moment my daughter & I walked in the door of Hugos Oyster Bar we were delighted by the tastefully festive Louisiana theme. The house made mules were incredibly refreshing & the crab claw appetizer was out of this world! My daughter ordered the bourbon glazed salmon & I had the salmon special - both were perfectly cooked & delicious. Both the service & the food was well beyond our expectations - would give them 10 stars if I could!
Hugo’s never disappoints. Food and service are there strengths. Off the beaten historic Roswell path and worth it.
Oysters! So many oysters, so perfectly prepared, so delightfully indulged-in.
Thank you for taking the time to review our restaurant. We always make sure we have the freshest and best oyster menu in town. We also do a great Happy Hour with $1 gulf oysters Monday - Friday 3-6:30. Look forward to your next visit. Warm Regards Jonathan Gorman General Manager
Food and service is outstanding. Fresh oysters, both Gulf and boutique. Save room for the beignets with warm praline sauce. So good! And they use Ed's Red hot sauce! Cool cocktails. Couldn't be better.
This was my first trip to Hugo's. While the service was ok, I had asked to have my salmon cooked well done. It arrived half cooked. By the time the server came back to the table, it was too late to fix it. I did receive a free dessert, but it still did not fix my first impression.
Good drinks, good food. Great place to eat during lent, lots of seafood choices.
Thank you for the review and taking the time to leave us one. Check us out for Brunch on the weekends. We have a great menu and a amazing Bloody Mary Bar/Mimosa Bar. Look forward to your next visit. Warm Regards Jonathan Gorman General Manager
Nice casual business dinner. Good food. Good service.
A little bit of New Orleans in Atlanta. Felt like I was in a restaurant in the French Quarter. Oysters were deliciously prepared and service was fantastic. Need a reservation because they are always busy.
Busy Friday night. Sophia was an excellent server - was a very good evening but not outstanding
Grouper was grilled perfectly. !
Loved the calamari and raw oysters. My favorite place for fish and oysters. Fun atmosphere too!
Thank you for taking the time to review our restaurant. We take great making sure we put out the best product. Look forward to you next visit.
Found this place online for a bite to eat before the play at the Roswell Arts Center. Our server was attentive and offered her favorites and the most delicious entrees. I had the Parmesan Crusted Flounder, which was tender and cooked just right. My wife had the wedge salad with fried oysters added and while the salad was good, the oysters were heavily breaded and without taste. Wouldn't order that again, but we will try Hugo's again when we're in the area and would recommend.
Good Value and Good Happy Hour at bar!
Good raw oysters and a fair price!
I always enjoy Hugo’s when I visit. The Live band was great for Fat Tuesday!
We always enjoy Hugo's. Friendly and sometimes a bit loud but the food and drinks are great.
We had a great experience at Hugo's. Oysters were perfect...not an off one in the bunch thank you very much.
Had a Hurricane to get in the spirit of the season. I'm usually a whiskey neat gal so the expectation of the fruity mix was just as expected but better than most hurricanes I've had. I admit it got the job done as it was created to do. I added a double shot of rum to the 'cane at the halfway point. I don't mess around. ;) You gotta have the right tools or in this case ingredients to get the job done right.
So as far food goes I had the perfectly seared scallops and they were delicate and delicious. A favorite here right up there with the oysters and the Po 'boys. We shared a well portioned perfectly dressed and nicely seasoned Caesar Salad.
Asked for bread for the table due to libation enthusiasm. Must remember to always asked for their bread. It was the delicious Po Boy soft french rolls OMG so good.
sorry I can't remember what my date had...blame it on my being focused on my selections and of course the aforementioned libations.
Service was good and as good as could be as our very attentive server was stretched with several large groups nearby.
Due to our Open Table reservation we sat down with just a tiny wait ...this place was super crowded with A LOT of eager people waiting in the wings.
Can't wait to go back.
This was only the second time I had ever dined there the second time was on a Saturday night but I can say this I had a 6 o’clock reservation food it was not out on the table until 730 or waitress only came once to refill our drinks it was horrible I was super excited had a family get together of six it was so noisy we almost got up and left I was so disappointed and embarrassed because I talked The place up and it was a horrible experience . It was a $200 plus dinner which I wouldn’t normally blink an eye at but the service and the wait was terrible they will not get another chance
Server was excellent! Food was good.
We took our out of town friends there. They loved it as much as we do.
We had a great time. It was just a little noisy and the jumbo shrimp are not jumbo, more like medium to small.
Food was good - had raw and cooked oysters - yumm!
It was a bit warm in the place and the fried oysters weren’t good at all for $24 they charged.
Great service from the moment I walked in. Appetizers (oysters) we're amazing, to my Bourbon Salmon. We enjoyed every delightful forkful & can't wait to be back!!!
