Food was very good, but service was inattentive. While all were friendly, there were a couple of forgotten items that we had to ask for twice, and service was slow overall.

Food was poor quality. The prawns were overcooked and placed on a bed of tasteless vegetables. Honestly, I do not know how this restaurant can have 4 + stars. The people were extremely kind. They should fix the food.

An excellent experience as usual, with some of the best Italian wine selections for the type of cuisine offered. Make La Ciccia a staple and stable choice for a great dinner.

This is the second time we've tried La Ciccia, and while we weren't overly impressed, we wanted to give it another shot. Our second visit solidified for me that this is a mediocre Italian restaurant. The food is okay and some dishes can be good but not great. The flavors are interesting, but not balanced. I would go here for a quick casual dinner, but I'm very confused by how booked up it gets. In my humble opinion, Locanda in the Mission makes better pasta dishes.

The food was great, and our waiter was very nice. My only problem was with the hostess. We were 15 minutes late for our table and called to let her know. Fifteen minutes is within the restaurant’s acceptable time period to keep a reservation. I apologized upon taking my table. The hostess didn’t respond and appeared to glare at me for several minutes after walking away in what I took as an effort to speed up my ordering. I also noticed she checked on every table’s meal except ours.

I have been a client here since La Ciccia first opened and have always put the restaurant in my Top 5 here in San Francisco. But this experience was not worthy of 5 stars, as it has been in the past. And the reason is the food. It was just mediocre this time. Perhaps it was because we were not able to get a booking until 9:30 pm and the lateness of the service caused the food to be just fair this time. The menu needs an update. I love this place so much and will give it another try in the Spring.

The pasta dishes are all so wonderful. Complex and amazing flavors but simple at the same time, all done without butter, cream or cheese unlike most American-Italian restaurants. The squid appetizer was also outstanding, the shrimp main was comparatively less impressive but still good. Dining companions said lamb was some of the best they’ve tasted. Good wine selection, this is a place you want to return to often.

This place is one of the best restaurants in San Francisco.
The octopus stew, this time for NYE, was transformed into a seafood stew, and included scallops, shrimp, mussels and clams. I nearly ate the entire bowl myself, it was soo delicious.
We had the squid ink pasta with lobster and it was awesome.
Lorella and Massimiliano are wonderful warm hosts that welcome you back with their charm and wonderful food and wine.
Wishing the restaurant a wonderful 2019.

Surprisingly just OK. Of our 4 entrees, 2 were very good (pork scallopine and gamberini) and 2 were less than stellar (gnocchi and gnocchetti with truffles). Dessert was not good. The panna cotta was grossly dense (rubbery?) and ricotta was ‘meh’. Service was fine. Owner/hostess bustling around in a cramped seating area was distracting. While not a bad meal, it was not as nice as it could be. Disappointed because it didn’t meet expectations set by previous reviewers and recommender.

We were given the Specials for the day and when we had a chance to order one after waiting for over half hour we were told it was sold out. Imagine how upset my pregnant wife was. The waiter was overwhelmed, never offered us a drink until almost 40 minutes after arrival. The break was given to us almost 1 hour into our night, no butter was provided with the Bread. So we ate bread with Saliva. The place is very small and crowded. Not a great experience. I wouldn’t recommend this place, not even to my worst enemy. Very disappointing.

This was my second time at La Ciccia. I had an amazing meal during the spring menu but I felt the fall menu fell short. There was a special with the uni and tuna heart pasta using gnocchi which is not the best pasta to use especially since it was too al dente

Friends took my wife and me to La Ciccia a few years ago and it's become our goto restaurant when in San Francisco. Small, intimate, and homey, it feels like you're having dinner at a relative's. The food is Sardinian, with a concise menu that includes wonderful pasta dishes, seafood and meat--all delicious. They have a great wine list, with many Italian wines from small vintners. The husband and wife owners split their duties between the kitchen, where the husband cooks, and the front-of-house, where the wife presides with her warm, welcoming personality. Overall, dining there is a wonderful experience.

I was surprised, coming here for a third time, that I would be so disappointed with our meal. We had raved to our friend about our previous experience.

Delicious salad, tasty, spicy, octopus appetizer. Off to a good start. That’s where the fun ended.

My main course, large grilled prawns came on a wet soggy watery bed of kale or chard. Like someone spilled the steaming water over the dish. Yuck. Prawns very difficult to get out of their shells in the soupy mess. The branzino was ok, but nothing to rave about.

Our dining companions brought an oversize bottle of wine for which we were charged a $50 corkage fee. Would’ve been nice to have been given a heads up since the menu says $35 corkage.

Whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth literally and figuratively.
