Stroll along 17th St., between Lighthouse and Laurel and you will find one of the Peninsula’s favorite spots, La Mia Cucina. This little jewel, with its fresh ambiance and tantalizing menu, is popular with everyone. The colorful European advertising posters that enliven the walls, are “originals, not reproductions.” That phrase is accurate in describing La Mia Cucina itself. From the comfortable linen white decor, accented beautifully by those turn-of-the-century posters, to the hand-crafted entrees and desserts, everything about La Mia Cucina says fresh and original. Owner Michael’s specialty, his ravioli dishes, are a renowned local favorite, and for good reason. They are hand made, with all the care that only a lifetime of creative food combining can bring. In addition to pasta, La Mia Cucina is known for it's fresh fish and meat specials. The desserts are made in-house by his wife Paula and daughter Michaela, and the service is personal and inviting.

I recently visited Passionfish during my vacation in Monterey, and it was an exceptional dining experience from start to finish. The ambiance of the restaurant is cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxing evening. We started with the appetizers, and every bite was a delight. The biscuits were warm and flaky, the scallop was cooked to perfection, and the tostaditas offered a wonderful burst of flavor with each bite. For the main course, I had the shrimp & Alaskan halibut, which was absolutely divine. The shrimp were succulent, and the halibut was incredibly fresh and cooked just right. The dish was beautifully presented and seasoned perfectly, showcasing the quality of the ingredients. The service was impeccable, with attentive and friendly staff who made sure our dining experience was top-notch. Passionfish is a must-visit for anyone in Monterey looking for an exquisite meal. I can't wait to return!

Overall our experience was great. The only reason I didn't give it a 5-star is because of the drinks. I asked for a Lemmon drop, and it wasn't good. I asked for a prosseco, and the lovely waitress gave me a try a sparkling wine since they didn't have prosecco. Being a hotel restaurant, I think they should carry prosecco, the sparkling wine wasn't even close to it.

The food was delicious. I had prime rib, spinach salad, and asparagus in place of mashed potatoes. The salad had a pleasant bacony flavor, the meat was cooked properly (I like mine rare) and the asparagus was tasty, though cooked well past al dente. My wife had the shrimp with fresh papardelle pasta. She loved that the pasta had its own seafood flavor. My son was very complimentary of the ahi entre. The service and ambience were outstanding. Chart House has long been one of my favorite restaurants and remains near the top.
