The Latin King restaurant was founded in 1947 by Rose and Jim Pigneri, who immigrated from Terravecchia, Italy to Des Moines. Rose and Jim wanted to bring authentic Italian fare to Des Moines and began this undertaking in earnest upon selling their home to finance the Latin King restaurant lease, which had previously operated as the Cinderella Sandwich Shop (circa 1930) and the Chanticleer Restaurant (circa 1937). Pigneri named the Latin King after New York City’s Latin Quarter and operated the Latin King for 35 years, notably taking only 10 days of vacation time during his tenure. Pigneri sold the Latin King to his third cousin Bob Tursi in 1983.

    The highlight of the meal with steak tartare is the best we’ve ever had and the oysters and a half show were sublime, and we absolutely loved the tomahawk steak. The server was very attentive, friendly knowledgeable, and we greatly appreciated the extra Touches and recognition of our anniversary.

    The food and service were excellent. The room has sound suppression so be aware Friday night is noisy. I was there on a Tuesday and a Friday and enjoyed both but on busier nights are more challenging for the hearing impaired. But what excellent food and service!!!!

    We went to AJ’s for our anniversary dinner. Madison was our server and she was awesome. Attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. We both had the steak deburgo. They were prepared perfectly and were delicious. This may be the best steak deburgo in Des Moines! The drinks was tasty and the atmosphere was great. And to top it off, we were given a free anniversary desert and even two pieces of fudge “to go”. We will definitely be back!

    First time into the Stuffed Olive after my daughter said - Mom you will love it! She was right. Great evening with my bestie sister and her husband we would definitely go again and again. We hit Monday night BOGO martini’s and they were all so great! Highly recommend this restaurant! We would rewind and repeat! Our server was amazing!
