Grantchester is a popular haunt for students and tourists of the university city as they can walk along the "Grantchester Grind", the river path that runs from Cambridge alongside the Grantchester meadows or even arrive by punt. The pub is named after the English poet known for his idealistic war sonnets, who at one time lived at the Old Vicarage and immortalised the residence in a poem written in 1912 in Berlin.
