Korean Tapas Restaurant. Inspired by traditional Korean cuisine...not traditional Korean cuisine. The Korean word ‘Bansang’ refers to the style of table setting for the kings and nobles of the Joseon, a Korean dynastic kingdom that prospered for more than five centuries. At Bansang, we wish to serve all of our guests with the same care and sincerity as the chefs did for their royalty in those times past.Korean fare is built around enjoying various distinctive types of dishes simultaneously rather than in separate courses, as this allows every person to experience continuously changing flavor combinations unique to Korean culture. Our guests can expect a modern, creative perspective on this traditional style of Korean cuisine.

We were greeted by a kind person. I was given a special birthday menu because I’d noted that in my reservation. The entire team of servers took care of us in a casual/professional way that felt welcoming and authentic. The interior atmosphere is simple, clean, calm. We sat at the bar and enjoyed watching the team prepare delicious, gorgeous dishes with immense care and attention. Every thing we ordered was mind blowing and/or scrumptious. Anchovy Pintxo amuse bouche was the perfect start. Cocktails were all on point to balance the salty chovies. Anchovy tostadas with guac and lime - holy cow. Anchovies with turnips in a skillet full of savory, umami seasoning and spicy heat! Squid ink pasta with clams that melted in mouth. And an anchovy ice cream sundae to finish, which I must admit, was awesome and sensationally weird. I gotta try the sturgeon caviar shortbread next time. This is an outstanding neighborhood spot, night out destination. We’ll be back!

It was time to revisit the signature BBQ duck and naturally it did not disappoint (that fried rice is sneakily good, coaxing me to munch beyond my capacity). The dining area has changed some since my last visit so that I sat closer to other groups around me, which turned out great since we started ordering dishes we saw on our neighbors tables, and started enjoying each others company as well as the food. I was recommended the Moscato from the dessert list to enjoy with the duck and I was thoroughly blown away. Followed up the rest of the glass with the blackberry sorbet, which you should not sleep on. Everything was beautifully presented and so seamless that I forgot to pick up the book I brought!

Great Italian food. Sophisticated design. Next time I would sit at communal table to get a better feel of the room. Two tops along the wall are great if you sit facing the room; the opposite seat doesn’t get a good view of the room despite the mirrors. Server managed to forget which glasses of white we ordered was which and seemed to drift away toward the end (it must’ve been because it was the end of his shift).
