From the minds of Adolfo Garcia (Son of a Butcher, Pearl Tavern) and long-time restaurateur, Phil Stefani, comes Broken English Taco Pub. Located on the corner of Michigan Avenue and Lake Street, Broken English is steps away from Millennium Park, and in the center of the new vibrant hotel and residential area. On the name, Garcia says, “I speak English with my friends, and I often find myself mixing in Spanish words because there are some phrases that simply don’t translate to English. This happens in many other languages and cultures, but that is what makes the name ‘Broken English’ fun – it is part of our daily slang.”

Our first time here and a wonderful find overall. The food was terrific, service very good. And nice decor and ambiance. The jazz music could be a bit lower and our waitress helped me figure out what wine to drink, but chose it herself without discussing and it was the high priced one, albeit a nice choice. One little nit after a few days downtown, it seems every single business gives you tip recommendations based on the after tax amount and many start their suggestions at 20%. We don’t mind being generous as warranted, but I don’t appreciate being strongly funneled or feeling guilty about a 20% tip on a pre tax amount. Wonderful fish and tortellini (if a bit ungenerous on quantity.

This place is a hidden gem next to the lobby of virgin hotel. Cocktails were a little spendy but well worth it. Food was very well done. Service was fine and we liked the open kitchen and casual digs. Will be back.

We had a fantastic time going to rosebuds for our anniversary. Our waitress (Elena, I think?) did a fantastic job, but it was the manager Guillermo who made our stay incredible and memorable. We will definitely be going back again. keep up the good work Guillermo!!
