With a passion for family and food the Lujan sisters came together to open Agave Azul Kitchen & Tequila Bar in 2012. Their goal was to bring together a gathering of authentic Mexican home cooking that stuck to their roots. Their family originated from Zacatecas, Mexico and then came to Hughson, California to begin farming. With this heritage came recipes passed down from generation to generation. Food was the center of their life and growing up on a local farm allowed their family to cook at home with food grown on their land. Sandra and Gabby originally had the thought of opening Taqueria El Agave, but it quickly transformed into a full kitchen serving some of their favorite dishes such as pollo con crema y rajas. The unique thing about Agave Azul is their attention and focus to the quality of each of the ingredients that goes into their recipes and their commitment to never sacrificing on quality home grown ingredients.

    The five-star experience started the moment we walked in, when we were offered a glass of bubbly. The excellent service continues until we walk out. We were seated and given time to enjoy our drinks while we looked over the menu. The server offered her recommendations and gave us time to discuss our options. The server had a thorough understanding of the menus and was able to answer all our questions. The food was presented and delivered with flair and style. The taste of the dishes exceeded our expectations. We ordered the Joey steak and the udon carbonara as our mains after enjoying the ceviche to start. The ceviche looked like art and was the best I have ever tasted. The carbonara was so rich and flavorful. The steak was perfectly cooked and tender with lots of smoky flavor that was also present in the broccolini. The mashed potato egg rolls were interesting and a great complement to the steak. We had two desserts, the creme brûlée cheesecake and the butter cake. My wife and I could not agree on which one we liked best. Both were delicious and big enough that we should have only ordered one and shared. After the meal, we didn't feel any pressure to finish our drinks quickly so that the table could be turned over. It was so nice to be able to enjoy our drinks after such a fine meal. We can not wait to come back and try some of the other dishes. Thank you for making our anniversary dinner so memorable

    We came and dined to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. They took note of it and were sure to honor and recognize that upon arrival, and throughout the time we were there. Excellent food, drinks and service. Freddy D was our waiter and we had a great experience with him. The manager makes his rounds throughout the time there and makes sure to check in with all guests on their experience. Highly recommend this restaurant.

    We had a big party and this restaurant was amazing for us. No problems adding guests, friendly, accommodating, and the food was great. All ages in the group (13 yo to 75 yo) enjoyed everything, and I actually checked the bill 4 times because I really thought we weren’t charged enough!
