Situated in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon, The Vintner is a natural meeting place, be it for a coffee or something a little stronger in the café / bar, a meal in our restaurant or when getting together more formally in our Private Dining Room.We have a diverse and thoughtful menu, locally-sourced and seasonally adjusted, as well as a comprehensive range of fine wines and beers from all over the world.'The Vintner' derives its name from the year 1600, when John Smith traded, along with his wife, as a wine merchant (vintner) in this building. It is more than likely that William Shakespeare purchased his wine from here!We allow dogs in our bar area, but not the main restaurant or upstairs. If you wish to bring your four-legged friend pleased call the restaurant directly as there is limited space available.

THE WOODSMAN IS A TRULY BRITISH RESTAURANTWe use the best British ingredients, all sourced as sustainably as possible.We love using Wild food, and harvest much of it ourselves. All the meat on our menus is “nose to tail” so the menu is ever changing, and we waste nothing. We even employ our own head ranger to keep the deer herds on the land we manage under control, and have our own deer larder in the Cotswolds where this amazing product is processed.Our fish comes from day boats in Cornwall.We work with the seasons, ensuring the very best truly local veg is with us the day after its picked. Our food is cooked over wood from local plantations, and charcoal coppiced less than 20 miles away.We know the story of everything on the menu.Our lovely staff are extremely well informed, so, do ask questions on anything you’re not sure of.We hope you love this restaurant as much as we do and keep coming back.

    Warm welcome, lovely relaxed setting, good service with attentive and friendly staff. Food was excellent, very tasty and the chef was accommodating. Pinot Noir wine was very nice. Would recommend and we will be back next time we’re in Stratford Upon Avon.

    We like to dine mid afternoon and had a very quiet meal around a huge round table for the 4 of us. The woodsman snacks of venison scotch eggs, etc was perfect to share. Fish and Chips were delicious- curried mayonnaise was a good accompaniment. My son found his burger was excellent. Good choice of drinks. Friendly service, We will certainly return.

    We are a group of 4 ladies aging from 65 to 94, we had the most amazing meal at the Opposition, the staff were helpful beyond belief when they helped the 89 year old Birthday girl who is severely limited with mobility into the restaurant and again out to the car!!! Everyone very pleasant, not rushed in any way whatsoever. We will definitely be returning soon!!

    Great place to eat. Nicely decorated restaurant with an understated RSC theatre vibe. The food was excellent and the service was very cheerful and friendly. Courses were timed just right. We never felt as if we were waiting or rushed. Happy to highly recommend The Vintner to anyone.

    We had a lovely meal - delicious pizza and ice cream to follow. We'd thought we might have to ask for a doggy bag but managed to leave empty plates after all. It was nice to eat in a more independent restaurant where the pizzas were a cut above the norm. If we lived in Stratford we'd come here often.
