Located next to the “Peoples’ Dock,” the town’s only public ferry landing, it was called the West Side Mercantile. From that time until the present it has had a series of owners and has been several businesses.Run down and in a state of disrepair, the building was bought by Peter Stanley in 1973. After an extensive renovation, the Tides opened its doors to the public on Saturday, June 2, 1973. The Tides has remained in the Stanley family for over 45 years and is now owned by Peter’s eldest son, Dylan.The Tides Tavern offers the greatest house-made food and the finest beverages in the western hemisphere, but only to persons over 21 years of age.     Went for our anniversary and started out with complementary champagne. We ordered 2 special’s the duck breast and macadamia nut crusted haddock. For a starter we had the pork belly which was also a special. Everything was excellent as was the bottle of Pinot Noir. To finish our awesome dinner we had the flourless chocolate cake. Our server was very attentive. Excellent place to celebrate our anniversary.
