The menu has changed, for the worse. There are no vegetarian entrees, and the vegetarian appetizer options (all of which I’ve tried in the past) are unappealing. My server encouraged me to have the ravioli in pomodoro sauce, which is obviously not a French dish and is also not very good (when I want Italian food, I’ll go to an Italian restaurant and have something better and more interesting). I had the mushroom tart, which was extremely salty and about 80% pastry, and the spinach side, which was as bland as can be. We had the earliest dinner reservation possible, but were told that the chef could not make the omelet that was available for brunch just an hour earlier (and had previously been on the dinner menu), because the dinner setup made it impossible for him to cook eggs. That was bizarre, and my gut feeling was that these changes must reflect an effort to cut costs. Unfortunately, there are significantly fewer entree options than there used to be, and the menu now lacks even a single, good French vegetable dish for dinner.

We were seated outside, so the usual noise indoors in this restaurant was not a problem. Service was prompt, and the gougeres and the quiche were outstanding.

This was our first time dining out since January-to celebrate our anniversary. A group of protesters came through and stayed by the tables outside for about 30 minutes yelling at the diners. We support the cause of the protestors and aren’t mad at them, but a waiter said the protestors come by every weekend; as such, I would have expected a warning before dining there. All of our food was served lukewarm-not the quality I remember from years ago. In addition, no one acknowledged our anniversary, which usually restaurants do when you note it on your reservation. For a night that was supposed to be special and enjoyable, especially first time dining out since COVID, it was underwhelming and overpriced for what we experienced. Our waitress was good, so no complaints on service.

We had dinner on Saturday Sept 19th 2020 at 9pm (outdoor seating). We also encountered the 30min protest. Regardless if you agree or disagree with the protests, the protesters were agitated, verbal and demanding attention of dinner guests. It was not a fun experience. Situation escalated very quickly. A few dinner guests that had close and disturbing encounters with protesters had to leave in the middle of their dinner. We did not feel safe. If this is in fact happening every weekend at a certain time, the restaurant SHOULD give guests a heads up or change their reservation altogether. We could not fully enjoy the dinner and safety was a real concern. Service and food were very good once protest ended.

Our server really made the whole experience awesome - I think her name was Kristin. We had a fantastic anniversary dinner and they made the entire experience fantastic. Also shoutout for being super LGBTQ+ friendly and making us feel comfortable. Really hands down the best experience and one of the best servers we have ever had = thank you Kristin!!!

given the new environment, the experience was excellent as usual. however, next time we sit outside, I will ask to be seated on the Q street side, as the traffic -human and auto - was very noisy and distracting. The leached dogs were fun, though.

My girlfriend and I enjoyed a fine dining experience on our date. We were seated outside and the weather was perfect. Our waiter was enthusiastic and entertaining which made for a great date environment. Our steaks were perfectly cooked and delicious. Would definitely eat there again and recommend Le Diplomate to anyone in the DC area.

I am used to Parks in Philadelphia, although the menu is almost the same execution is not. The macaroni with cheese dish is not good, burgers with french fries OK, salmon is good but not for the price. Attitude at the door could be improved. Example, we came over without reservation quarter to 5 PM, with practically every table empty. They asked us to wait till 5 PM and put our names into list. We had a 4 year old with us. Le Diplomate never fills these seats that early anyway, as we live a block away.

It is almost like a fast food restaurant with expensive wine served along with other mediocrity. Will not return.

Love the weekday afternoon lunch atmosphere. Relaxed and spacious and a great meal and service. Always craving a croque madame so I wish it was on the lunch menu but win plenty lose little in the case of Le Diplomate. :)

Came for brunch and was disappointed. They took the eggs vol au vent and the French toast off the menu. My two favorites for brunch. Was told they didn’t have the ingredients which was kind of hard to believe since they had everything else. We sat inside, and there was a not so pleasant odor throughout the restaurant. Not sure what that was about. Will definitely hold off on coming back for a while.

Like you were stepping from a sidewalk in Paris into the Brasserie Lipp. It started wit h Cocktails. I didn't know what to order so the waiter suggested that he would come back with something good and he was right, He made me a delicious Vieux Carre'. We then ordered appetizers consisting of state that our car, onion soup, and while we're on a parfait all of which were fantastic. My daughter and I had steak au poivre, which was delicious. The mushroom medley side order was very tasty as well. We washed it down with a very good and moderately priced half carafe of red wine.

We're never disappointed when we go to le Diplomate.

First time out to eat since February. the food was amazing and sitting outside with the tables spaced seemed about as safe as it could be done. Sitting in the middle of 14th Street was very noisy but what can you do.

Two of the three members in our party felt ill after eating the food on Saturday afternoon. Our mushroom tarte came quite burnt and our service was awful for the first time in my experience dining at the restaurant.

Our waiter was quite rude and overall had a poor experience
