Macello is a place where you will feel like a regular from your very first visit. A family-friendly fine dining restaurant, coming here you will find all of the comforts of a home-cooked meal without any of the mess. Since October of 2007, Macello has transported diners to another place and time. We specialize in Pugliese cuisine, inspired by the nostalgic reflections of our two owners, both with strong ties to this southern Italian region. Our menu takes advantage of many of the coastal region's unique seafood and pasta dishes. Always traditionally-inspired and fresh, we strive to capture the Old World charm and authenticity in our West Loop restaurant. From the two wood-burning ovens kept fired to the finest ingredients, at Macello you will find a taste of the Adriatic like no other. Food was amazing and well prepared! Only downside was we were seated in the garden on the other side of the garage. Very obvious the smell hit us anytime the kitchen would toss something, we would get surrounded with the smell of garbage. We were about to ask to move tables but our food arrived so we just delt with it. I suspect it is just this one spot that smells. The food and services was great overall!!

Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal and said they would be happy to return . I have to be gluten free, and mostly dairy free and there were scrumptious options for me. Service good, wine by the glass ok a good value.

We had the mushroom risotto which was average and octopus pasta. Octopus was cooked well, but the pasta was just bland. Appetizer was okay(Stuffed eggplant). Wine collection was great though. Overall it was just decent. I expected it to be much better based on reviews.

Macello is one of our favorite places to get together with friends and enjoy great food. Our top choice on the menu, and for many of friends, is the oven-roasted sea bass. It is consistently prepared perfectly, the white wine caper sauce is divine, and the bed of risotto is an amazing accompaniment. The warm, wood decor with the wood brick oven make the restaurant very inviting for a casual, relaxed evening. In good weather, we enjoy the great outdoors seated on their comfortable patio.

I have dined here many times and this is my first disappointing visit. The atmosphere and service were outstanding. This time, however, the food was disappointing. The mussels and clams appetizer was excellent, but the chicken Caesar salad my date ordered was pathetic in portion size and presentation. My braciolle and tagliatelle dish was unimpressive in looks and taste. The meat was extremely dry. The sauce was thick and lacked any real flavor. I’m not sure what happened this night, but it was a first date and left me feeling like I made a poor choice for it.

We spend 3 montha a year in Italy and are very picky about Italian restaurants in Chicago. Macello is one of the very few we will visit because the good is fresh and authentic. Great wines too.

Met a new friend here and the vibe was lovely, the food, not so impressive. We ordered the spinach salad, margarita pizza, and orecchiette pasta. The salad and pizza were okay, the pasta was like they boiled some noodles and put some green things in there - lacking in flavor and bland. Ultimately, not for me, but we appreciated the service and mocktails!

Service was bad. Our waitress was very nice and we left a good tip because she was doing her best, but we didn’t get set up with a server for our first 25 minutes there. Food and drinks were extremely slow.

We had a group of 8 (2 of which joined last minute which they were able to accommodate for!) Food was great but the pacing of the courses was a little off. A pizza came out early before any of the food, but our server realized that was a mistake and her/a manager comp’ed it because it was cold by the time the rest of our party’s food came out. Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu/wines and gave great recommendations (particularly for a bottle of wine for the table)!

Very authentic food from the Puglia region of Italy. Burrata app was delicious as were the seafood risotto & pasta dishes we had. Our server Joe took wonderful care of us.

Great spot! Very attentive service…our water glasses were never empty. Excellent food: up there with some of the best. Timing a tad off as my pizza and another dish arrived prior to others in our party of 5. They were super careful about a food allergy in our group and even brought a comped birthday dessert that was dairy free! Also: free parking under the el across the street! Inside ambiance is super authentic and beautiful….but we sat outside as it was a gorgeous night. Cute patio…el a tad loud but hey, that’s Chicago! Would def go back again!

Macello never disappoints. It’s my favorite place to eat on special occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries. Last night was my birthday and I was given a big piece of the most delicious tiramisu! The food is delicious and fresh and the service is friendly and prompt. I highly recommend!

Being so close to the 'L' means the patio has regular punches of loud noise. Also the patio could be dressed up a little more with climbing plants to dress up the fence a bit. Otherwise, Macello's is a very good, comfortable restaurant with excellent service.

This is a lovely restaurant. Bright, airy, no loud blaring music or intrusive TVs. The menu has a wide range of choices at various price points. I highly recommend the panzerotto, delicious and big enough to feed two. As a Pugliese restaurant, Macello is a shellfish lover's delight.

We love Marcelo!!! So much in fact that we choose to celebrate our anniversary dinner there and we dared to brave the construction on 90 to do so!!! LOL😂😂 Excellent service, excellent food and amazing wine and drinks! I tried the Limoncello spritz for the first time!!! Delicious!!! Highly recommend! We have been many times and brought friends and family and everyone loves it!!!! We even bought the shirts😂😂😂

Good range of mid priced entrees: pizzas, cavatelli, risotto . Everything was flavorful and vegetables were fresh and crisp. Our server was a gem. Only downsides: it's under the El which got a bit distracting, and it cn get loud and hard to hear singetables are pretty close together. But all in all a great time, and very artful decor.

Charming spot with an authentic feel. Service was outstanding. We had the house Pinot Noir by recommendation and it was lovely. I had the seafood zuppa and it was delicious, the tomato base was fresh and amazing. Loved the over-sized lighting and love plants and glass roof. 5 Stars all around. The calamari’s breaded was fantastic. I wanted everything on the menu!

This place was amazing! The patio was the perfect place to enjoy our dinner. Our service was incredible, the waiter was so knowledgeable about the Italian wines and we had some of the best espresso martinis. The fresh pastas were also incredible. We even got a free dessert and limoncello shots after dinner! Highly recommend.

I rarely give 5 stars, but this place hits home runs on all fronts. Excellent Italian cuisine prepared like the chef was from Puglia. Seafood salad appetizer, wood oven pizza for apps followed by the best mixed seafood special I’ve had in a while. Our waiter, Gustavo, was fantastic and enthusiastic about the food. Everyone loved it and will be back.

Great spot in the west loop. Cozy dining room with nice patio out back. This was our third visit and the food is consistently very good. Nice wine list of predominantly Italian wines. Good service. It's a little bit away from the crowds of Fulton St. and Randolph, but worth the trip (and usually free street parking nearby..)
