I dined at Mamma Maria with my wife and another married couple. We were there on a Saturday evening so the restaurant was rather full. At times it was hard to hear what other people at our table were saying but it wasn't too bad. The food was reasonably priced for a semi-formal restaurant. Our entrees were all around $30. They have a limited beer selection (what they do have is very good) but if you're a wine drinker they have an incredibly extensive wine list, though it tends to be pricey. I personally ordered their New York strip and asked for it medium rare. I received it rare but for once I was glad the chef made a mistake because it was very, very delicious and unusually tender for a rare steak. Everyone else said they were delighted by their meals. If you're in the North End and want a good piece of meat or some great pasta you could do a lot worse. Make sure you get a reservation if it's the weekend because they were very busy.
Truffles! Good food! Yummy! Yay! Little pricey! But compared to Boston's other restaurants, its not bad in terms of price. Go fo foo
The restaurant had very good reviews. I guess it just wasn't for me. The dining area was crowded and extremely hot. The service was inconsistent and awkward. The food is very overpriced for very little taste. Some people may enjoy it though.
An exceptional dining experience! Would recommend to all!
Loved the ambiance, service and food was fantastic. I wish they had the vegetarian options on the main menu bevause it is somewhat awkward to ask for another menu and wait longer for food.
Outside of that, fantastic and would go again when I have the money to drop on it. Expensive but worth it.
Portions were small and the price tag was high. This is certainly not the best deal in the north end. If you are looking for atmosphere, then this place has potential but if you sit in the downstairs which is cramped and noisy then you can throw atmosphere out the window as well. It was our anniversary and the waiter did not even recognize. We could have gotten a similar experience with the same quality food only with bigger portions and at half the price at many other locations within walking distance.
Romantic, special occasion, outstanding food and service
Great romantic spot for a date night. Pasta con Sugo had a nice kick and is recommended for pepperoncini fans. Service was on point but a little on the slower side, but maybe that could be beneficial for couples.
This restaurant offers one of the most romantic atmospheres with truly delicious food in Boston.
We’ve come here many times and never have been disappointed
We had a great time at Mamma Maria. Every aspect of the meal was perfect!
I have been here before and it was as outstanding as usual
I want to give ten stars if possible.
We told them it was a special dinner for us and without asking further, they seated us at a very romantic table with a beautiful city view (see photo). But every area of the restaurant was elegant and welcoming. Service was attentive throughout. Adorable (small) bar.
Food some of the best in memory. The Lamb 3 Ways wonderful every Way. Pasta con Sugo delicious.
Found a really nice red blend, of which we promptly went out and bought a case...Gaja Ca’ Marcanda Promis.
We will be back with Momma Maria as a prime destination on our next North End visit.
It wasn't worth the price. $250 for raw food wasn't our taste. Some people might like that but we don't. The rabbit, and ravioli wasn't that good either. The steak was though. At the end of the day, we've left more satisfied paying for half of the price or less.
Me and my wife went there for the first time this valentines night and it was delicious! The maître d’ took the time and called us two days in advance to let us know they were having a limited menu which was nice but to be honest they still offered a nice variety. The wait staff to the coat check couldn’t have been nicer. We look forward to our next visit!
The food dishes were sub par. The options should've been better
Do you have a sixth star available? Simply the best!
Amazing food. It is a tad bit over priced but bar none the best food in the North End.
Wonderful all around - will not disappoint.
Fantastic from start to finish!
A bit disappointed since it seemed like this was a must go to restaurant. Oyster and scallop appetizers were Deff very good. They ran out of the rabbit pasta I wanted, and I got the swordfish instead. A bit fishy smelling. Unfortunately the restaurant is very loud since it is in such a tight space. Thought it would be a nice quiet type of night. Slow service ... took so long to get wine and entree
Food was amazing; service was great. They put couples who wanted a quieter ambiance in one room and the rowdier crew in another
We have been here twice while in town, and the Food is always amazing
Hands down the best restaurant in Boston. Had the most magnificent time with my friends and the best way to celebrate my boyfriends birthday. The food was amazing and the wine selection was impressive.
Molto Bello e delizioso!
The food was wonderful and the server was knowledgeable and attentive. I would definitely recommend this place.
Food was great, service amazing and the restaurant is beautiful!
Food wasn’t the best. Service was grand
Great time small little place! Very Italian great food i enjoyed it loud environment
The dining experience is delightful, the service is great, they have a full selection of wines and aperitifs, the Osso Buco is to die for, and so are the many other dishes. It is always a impressive place for special occasions, like birthdays, entertaining visitors, and on New Year's eve watching the fireworks over the harbor.
Quiet, attentive wait staff excellent food
The food was really delicious and the service and ambiance was very welcoming. We will definitely come back again.
Lively restaurant, full of buzz, very good food. Mushroom pasta was excellent. Extensive wine list.
Mamma Maria’s never disappoints. The wait staff are always friendly but not overbearing. The food preparation is unmatched. The ambiance is great.
The tender grilled octopus and snail pasta appetizers were spectacular, as were the juicy rabbit pasta and fall-off-the-bone osso buco. The latter was even served with a small knife to scrape up the marrow! The server and the rest of the staff were very attentive. Overall a very wonderful experience.
Mamma Maria was exactly what we expected! Having moved to North End 6 months ago, I was waiting for a perfect occasion to bring my wife to this restaurant.
The ambiance were top notch. I was even able to come earlier to drop a bouquet off for my wife earlier on for her birthday celebration! Food was great, we had the bone marrow to share for appetizer. My wife had the suckling pig for entre and I had the beef for entre. We wished they had the lamb shank that we've been eyeing but more reason for us to return!
The only downside was that the tables seem awfully close so we could really hear what others were talking about and I'm sure they could hear ours too!
Thumbs up otherwise!
My husband and I have been to Mama Maria several times and have loved it every time. We usually go there for our birthdays and/or valentines Day. We went for my birthday this time and the food was terrible, which was a shock because it's usually very good. My husband had the rabbit pappardelle, which he said tasted like hamburger helper and I had the beef tenderloin which tasted like shoe leather. My carpaccio appetizer was OK and his bone marrow appetizer was less than appetizing. We probably won't go back for a very long time if ever. We were very disappointed.
Great for a special occasion with someone special!
Our favorite place in the North End, MM never fails to deliver outstanding food and service. Warm and friendly but upscale at the same time. It isn’t cheap but the overall food and experience is worth it. Will be back every chance we get.
