One the best Italian meals I ever had in Boston and I eat out a lot. Expensive but totally worth it. I’ve been dying to try their osso bucco and it was indeed wonderful. Unbelievably tender, terrific flavor and the best part: tasty marrow that was gone too soon. All four appetizers (below is a photo of my tuna tartare) and entrees were phenomenal. The service was excellent. The best part: finding a legal (free) spot to park on the street! Even if I have to pay for parking, I’ll be back!
We had a lovely dinner but the tables are very close together and some very loud people sat right next to us with rude table manners. Not the restaurant’s fault, just our bad luck.
I had to add stars to the rating system for this restaurant. As a vegetarian, I am accustomed to having to settle for a cream sauce pasta at white-tablecloth restaurants. Not here! They have an entire vegetarian menu. It included a unique black lentil appetizer. I had vegetarian ravioli that was at least three levels up from what I expected. My carnivorous husband and son fared as well with fish, but the reputation of the restaurant prepared us for that. Our waiter was friendly but unobtrusive. When a new server brought someone else’s meal to our table—a nonevent as far as I’m concerned—staff was apologetic to the point I felt sorry for the server.
Mamma Maria is solid. I’ve never had a bad meal here. Great service and even better food!
I had no idea how wonderful Mamma Maria was until dining there the other night. Wow! Thus is the first restaurant in the North End that is truly elegant and justifies the high prices. There were four adults in my party and we all loved our starters and main courses. The taste and presentation were fantastic. There is an extensive wine list with options for various budgets. We were too full to try the desserts although they looked amazing as well. We don’t live too far away and can’t wait to return.
Food was amazing and service was excellent. Would definitely go again. Only negative was our table was next to a service stand and the door to the kitchen. So ambiance suffered and it was very noisy. I think other areas of the restaurant would be preferable next time. Highly recommend this fine restaurant.
Great food, great wine and great service! We visit every time we are in Boston and will be back!
Great meal whether seafood or pasta. Really good service as well. Would go back any tme.
Fabulous dinner, as always! Our waiter was particularly excellent.
Great good and wonderful service. The pesto was so fresh and delicious. I had the lamb three ways and my fiance had the ossobuco at the recommendation of our server. Neither disappointed and we cleaned our plates easily. Mamma Maria is definitely now part of our date night/celebration/holiday restaurant rotation
Would never return to this restaurant. Rude staff and very average food. Not worth the money.
Celebrated a birthday here and had excellent food as expected but service was extra attentive. I had not mentioned it was my husband’s birthday until we had our wine and toasted quietly to him. Our waiter was attentive enough to hear it and after we enjoyed all the rest of our meal brought out some of the BEST tiramisu ever in honor of the birthday. It was a busy Saturday but I appreciated the effort and it made my husband’s day special. The food and wine list were both wonderful and we will be back!
Food was fantastic, server was distracted at times and spent more time with other tables
We brought guests from out of state, and they said it was the best Italian food they've ever had. I concur. All of our meals were outstanding.
Food is excellent and I love the ambiance. Rated a 4 because the service was slow and inattentive. Waiter was nice, knowledgeable, and worked hard, just seemed understaffed.
First time here and it was outstanding! Food, drinks, and service were great. Will definitely return!
Delicious meal from start to finish. The lobster ravioli and the pasta bolognese were particularly delicious but every course was great. Charming ambience and excellent service made it a night to remember.
Outstanding! Highly recommend.
Best Osso Bucco I've had in a long time. One of the best Italian food restaurant in the North End.
The service was outstanding and the food was even better! What a great place to enjoy an evening with someone special! You can’t go wrong here and take your servers advice !!! They know best !
Delicious all three courses, but my ossobuco was outstanding. My dinner companion felt the same way about the duck leg appetizer. We have been here before and the service has been consistently attentive - well-paced, never felt rushed.
Overall was an amazing night. Food was great and reasonable priced. Atmosphere was excellent and our service was outstanding. I recommend dining here to anyone looking for an amazing meal in the heart of Boston.
This was an upscale dining experience. The food was wonderful and the portions were just right. Would definitely recommend it.
We had an amazing experience, waiter, food and wine would definitely return.
An amazing place and one not to miss.
I had the lamb three ways. I loved the sausage but the chop and the ravioli was only average. My husband got the chicken and he said it was average too. Considering the prize to taste, I would not go back. But the atmosphere was lovely, it felt like being in someone's cozy and romantic dining room. The tables are a bit too close, we didn't mind because we are Turkish speakers but if I was an American I wouldn't be the most comfortable with two other people sitting about two feet away from me. The waitress was cold to us and friendly to the people next table and she became friendly towards the end of our meal when we were about to pay so that felt a bit cheap. Overall, try it out if you eat out a lot and don't if not.
The service and the food was wonderful. Although I do not recall his name, our waiter was very attentive and also provided a nice recommendation for wine with dinner. The atmosphere was romantic and the pasta was perfect!
Food was fantastic although a touch expensive but worth it for a special dinner, especially because of the excellent service and ambience
Took our family of 6 after a day of exploring Boston. We did feel a bit under dressed, especially when the gentleman at the front of the house would not even acknowledge us. However, the rest of the staff was very kind and gracious. We had a 5:30 reservation. The restaurant was empty when we arrived. We had excellent service, Our meals were delicious! Fresh ingredients, well paired. Crew can eat and likes to try new things. The rabbit pasta, pasta burrata, summer ravioli, scallops, lobster agnolata and con sugo. My kids age 12-20 all raved about the food and the experience. I would say it is a lovely experience over all.
A terrific place for a celebratory dinner! Highly recommend having a pre-dinner cocktail at Ciao Bella across the street beforehand as well!!
I have been a huge fan of this restaurant for many years and they never disappoint. The service is exquisite....we had Tom as our server - he was attentive, knew the menu inside and out and was always ready when we were. The food is the best in Boston if not the U.S. We were able to secure the very private piccolo room for our date and it was truly amazing. If we could give a bonus star - we would.
Mamma Maria was excellent as usual. The staff are always friendly. We feel like neighbors whenever we go there. The food is great. It is our favorite North End Restaurant and maybe our favorite Boston restaurant.
Amazing food, Amazing experience!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everything we ordered was amazing. The oysters were out of this world. We can’t wait to go back.
Menu choices were outstanding, crafting unusual locally sourced ingredients into delicious dishes. Great service. The whitebait app was outstanding!
Expertly prepared. Warm, professional service.
We did not like the dark rooms, the old carpets.... No WLAN, they only had one bottle of sparkling water, the food and the service was good.
Food and service were excellent until the final moment of the dinner when the management refused to share a wi-fi password and therefore did not allow us to call a Lyft car back to our hotel!
