Mon Ami Gabi
What Insiders Are Saying
Mon Ami Gabi is a classic French bistro in an upscale Lincoln Park residential building.
The food was great, space lovely, but service was just ok, not bad, just left me wanting a bit more. I’m not from Chicago, but if I lived here, I would become a regular!
Fun night out -- the food was yummy and the service very attentive. Love this restaurant!
We had a wonderful meal. Service is always excellent. Great Caesar salad, salmon, steak frites, wine selection and best porfiteroles!
It was Fathers Day and I thought that it would be extra special to go to your restaurant. The service was excellent, the food was ok - nothing at all special.
Great Food. Great Service. Both are standard for Lettuce Entertain You restaurants. And great value--steak places can cost you an arm and a leg. My wife and I ate there for a bit over $100 (including tax and tip). Mon Ami Gabi continues to be a great place for a special meal at a reasonable price.
Service was great all around. Food was excellent as well! Love the atmosphere.
Always great. Go there about once a yr
Nothing worked. Undersized table sandwiched in between larger ones, poor service, and food that tasted like it had been in a steam table instead of freshly prepared. Not a pleasant experience.
Food was delicious but served cold. Service was ok, could have been more personal.
While the French Onion Soup is still the best we've had outside of France, we were disappointed at the Plat du Jour, Duck L'Orange. I was thrilled my birthday was on Tuesday so we could have this entree we have long enjoyed. It was presented differently and we didn't find the dish overall as enjoyable as in the past.
We enjoyed our anniversary celebration! Mon Ami Gabi gave us a delicious surprise to celebrate. Thanks for a wonderful evening.
Excellent food and excellent service!!! The waiter was very helpful. Split our second glass of wine for us.
My favorite restaurant. Period. That said, I thought the soft shelled crabs were salty and overpriced. I’m going back to my usual-trout. Always a winner.
I was underwhelmed at the beginning. We were seated at a table that had been shoved against the corner wall and window. The hostess stood there watching while I pulled the table out so we could sit down. She kept smiling the whole time and did not help or apologize. She was robotic and clearly had no idea what to do beyond sit guests and give menus. The table was only set for 2 when we had a reservation for 3. It didn’t seem like the restaurant was trying very hard to give a good experience. We will go elsewhere in the future. The valet was seamless and probably the best part.
Excellent neighborhood gem. food is always excellent, service impeccable.
Cosy fit with tables tightly together but well worth the visit
Great brunch - excellent menu selection and ambiance
Always a solid choice for Bistro classics- and martinis for lunch too!
Always a great experience from start to finish. The French onion soup, mussels and hanger steak are must. The mon ami gabi brand pinot noir also very tasty. Service was fantastic.
Much louder than we remembered - bustling activity which was nice to see but made it much harder to visit (hear) within our party; staff kept the beverage cart within reach of our table which became a distraction with servers clinking glasses and talking among themselves while nearly on-top of our party. Food was good but chef had a heavy hand with the salt - especially on the skate. Appetizers were OK - onion soup a favorite and desserts were exceptionally good.
The food was delicious! Would absolutely recommend based on that.
The service was mediocre; I felt the server assumed because we were a younger couple that we wouldn't tip well or spend as much (which was not true as we spent quite a bit), and I noticed that we did not get the same quality level of service as some other groups around us.
I would go back for the food and hope to get a different server who is more respectful.
Great food and excellent service!
Love French food, this place has all the classics and is consistently good. The tarte tatin was the best thing we tried this time. Everything else we ordered I’d have again: escargots, chicken liver pâté, steak au poivre, trout amandine. Wines by the glass are very reasonably priced.
The food is terrific and priced very very reasonably. My only tiny issues were 1) it's quite noisy, 2) it's extremely dark - almost hard to see others! my mother had to use her iPhone light to see the menu, and 3) they forgot about my dad's fish and he got his meal after everyone else had finished. They were extremely apologetic. It was such good food for a good price, though, so I'd definitely recommend it.
We sat outside in an area by ourselves. The food was delicious. My husband is gluten free and there was a great menu for him - including French onion soup .
Our service was great . Our waitress was attentive and delightful . It made our evening even better .
We love celebrating special occasions here .
Thank you .
It was a great place to celebrate a birthday dinner! Delicious food, attentive service and attention to detail. Will be returning soon!
Server was outstanding. Hostess was rude and condescending. Disappointing how it set the tone for dinner/drinks
Finally got to sit on their lovely patio. Perfect table, but you need to want to dine early, otherwise the wait for outside is probably long.
Food, service was great.
Service was phenomenal, the food was excellent and the atmosphere felt refined yet approachable. I was pleasantly surprised!!
It was wonderful
Fabulous . Great service and delicious food
The halibut and filet were very good. However, the escargot was disappointing. A little too salty and was missing something. More butter? More garlic?
Love having a quiet table in the main room so you can have a great conversation and food yet see all the bustling and people having fun
Wonderful experience.. waiter was seasoned and read my mind for easier ordering.. great table as well with a view of the park
The duck conffit and filet au poivre were absolutely delicious. This place has the best Manhattan I have ever had.
Great, classic French food; cozy bistro atmosphere; nice evening. I added a note about it being our anniversary when I booked the table and we were presented a profiterole with 2 candles in it, with a cute story from the waiter. Great time- thank you!
The food is always great! We had a few issues with the service. When we ordered we were asked to place our full order and told our food would be coursed and spaced out. Unfortunately, our mains came as we were just finishing up our appetizers. We hadn't even finished our first cocktail and had ordered a bottle of wine to arrive with our mains. As we were finishing our mains, the server came multiple times to clear plates, we we were still working on them. The same thing happened with dessert, we were approached multiple times to clear our plates when we were trying to leisurely finish our wine and dessert. We felt rushed through the entire dining experience.
The ambiance was charming, lively and sophisticated yet casual...as always! And I love having pasta on the menu finally, after all these years! I also loved the skate wing with capers. However, the asparagus was perhaps a mite overcooked, the ceasar salad a bit soggy, the cauliflower puree too creamy, the butter not as delicious as it used to be, and all-in-all, not the top quality food I was used to here.
Mon Ami is great place to get a well cooked, well served, and delicious meal. I suggest starting out with the escargot and seeing where the menu takes you from there. The servers know their stuff and offer great suggestions based off of your tastes, and the specials of the night are always a solid move.
Afterwards a stroll through Lincoln Park, is a nice way to end the evening.
Had a reservation and wanted to sit outside so we had to wait a bit but people coming after us were seated with drink outside before us. Then we waited 15 minutes for the opportunity to order drinks. The service was just not quality but the food and ambiance were superb.
