What Insiders Are Saying
Mott Street, a restaurant on Ashland near Wicker Park, serves interesting, delicious Asian-influenced food.
Went there specifically to try the Mott Burger but they only serve it at the bar. Decided to have drinks and apps outside since we were already seated and didnt want to cost the waiter a tab once we found out. Were told we could get the burger at the bar after but they failed to tell us the kitchen closed in 30 minutes. We weren't able to get the burger and had to leave after 2 apps and some cocktails. They comp'd us 2 extra drinks but overall it was still a bummer. The food we did have was good. Outside seating is a bit cramped. Cocktails were alright. Still want to go back for the burger.
Best burger on this pla et
This was so delicious, definitely recommend the coconut pancakes!
Great food and service, but pricey and can get noisy
Food was amazing!
Very interesting restaurant with a lot of selections on the menu. We ordered 5 dishes (3 small and 2 medium), and there were ones we like and others we don't care too much. Since there are still a good portion of the menu we didn't explore, would like to go next time for brunch or something. Service overall good but nothing stunning (compared with Michelin restaurants).
Food was one note and at times salty. The pancetta made the brussels but it was still oily. The wings were on the dry side and did not live up to expectation. The pork jowl could have been cut thicker for more of a meaty texture than bacon sized. The sisig was very salty when mixed with the sauce and did not remind me of the traditional sisig flavors. I was excited to try the stuffed cabbage but the flavors fell flat and needed something more than the one noted butter kimchi sauce. The crunchy rice was good but the pork did not really come through.
Overall not terrible but had much higher expectations for Mott Street. I would come back and try the burger at the bar but probably not for the other food.
Everything was great. Simon was a terrific waiter. The cocktail with pisco was delicious. The Chinese broccoli was amazing. The egg roll, beef broth soup, and cod were all great. Lovely patio.
Food was amazing and very unique. A lot of Filipino and Korean inspiration.
Food was absolutely fantastic ! I had made reservations for my boyfriends birthday & they took us to a table right away. Our waiter was kind of leaving us last in the sense of how many tables he was taking care of. He did have a large party. But we kept having to ask other waiters to add more to our order. When making the reservation I did say it was a birthday occasion. They must’ve completely forgot but I wanted to make my boyfriend feel a little special on his day lol. He wasn’t upset but to me it was a minor let down. But over all the food made up for it !
Overall I’d give this place a 3. If my rating was just on the food it would be a 5 for sure. The wings were to die for and the cauliflour was unreal. Not to mention we basically drank straight from the bowl for the muscles. However. I’m giving this a 3 for the service.
First off, I walked in right on time for a party of two and they made me wait till my friend got there to seat me. I get waiting for half of a large party but it was literally two people.... I would’ve ordered a drink while I waited so I though that was just rude. To top it off the host was going to sit us at the communal table that bad bar stools with no backs, but since I was recently hit by a car and have back problems I asked to sit at the two tops that had seats with backs. The host very sarcastically said “oh no I wouldn’t be able to accommodate that request” smiled and then walked off. Unbelievable rude. If you didn’t have a server for that section or that space was reserved just tell me and I’ll understand, don’t be rude about it! Then our service was fine but at the end of dinner the server came up with the check before we were even finished and when I said “well we may order one more drink” he told us they had a 14 top waiting on us to leave... it had been an hour and a half of us sitting there.
Overall would not go back and would not recommmened. I don’t pay a good chunk of money to be treated poorly and kicked out.
Food was excellent. Had been wanting to go here for awhile. We had brunch and it was suggested to order a mix of items and do family style to experience things . I should have staggered the order as we ordered starters and mains at once both starters arrived and then minutes later our mains . I felt rushed and didn't want cold food. The food was excellent definitely will go back
Great food, nice ambiance, good service.
It was first time and we had a terrific experience. The staff was excellent and they helped us finish in time to make our play at the Chopin Theater. We shared all of the dishes: brussel sprouts, Szechuan chili shrimp, imperial rolls and the Mott burger which is served only between 6 and 7 pm at dinner and also at the bar. (double chuck patties, sweet potato shoestrings, hoisin aioli, pickled jalapenos, dill pickles, miso butter, american cheese and an egg) Fanyastic!!
All the items paired well with a bottle of Italian white. Many more items on the menu which we look forward to trying in the future!
The food is always fabulous at Mott St. They had some excellent brunch drinks too - nothing too boozy, but light and refreshing and festive which is just what I was looking for! Our waiter helped guide us through the menu and answered our every question, no matter how random ("What is kimchi" "How did Mott St get its name"). We were celebrating birthdays and had the best time EVER!
Food was delicious and surprising- wings amazing. Dessert very disappointing, skip it and go elsewhere or get ice cream.
Everything was amazing. Service was great.
Mott Street never disappoints. We loved the empanadas, calamari and the gai lan.
The food was absolutely delicious! Favorites were the bay scallops with panko and the oyster mushrooms with miso butter which you should definitely dip everything into and if no one is looking just spoon directly into your moth. Cocktails were great too!
A few dishes were good but overall it was average. The dishes sounded really good, but the execution fell short. At the price point one expects better which is one of the reasons why I wouldn't recommend it, or put it in my rotation.
Loved the drinks — I like how the cocktails had adjectives listed. And the sake tasting was special. Food was flavorful and fun fusion — great for sharing. A little loud, even for a group of three.
All the food was incredible! The burger was a must and worth the wait at the bar.
The szechwan shrimp tasted soapy.
The raddler was delicious.
The garlic rice was meh.
The oyster mushrooms were also meh.
The food was delicious but we were pressured into ordering a lot of food and then it all came at once. Service left something to be desired, especially for the price point.
Absolutely delicious and creative food. The gailan with eggplant was mind blowing, and I've eaten Gai lan my whole life! The stuffed cabbage with crispy rice was also delicious and unique. We loved everything we got!
Brunch was delicious with inventive combinations and a truly wonderful burger. The service was a little clunky but we had a great time and were able to sit and enjoy the sunshine after our meal.
Always fantastic! I’ve recommended several people to this restaurant for food Nd cocktails Nd they are never disappointed. Love Mott Street! Unique & delicious. I highly recommend the whole fish, burger, wok seared gai lan and anything that appeals to you to try!
We have been coming here for a few years and we always enjoyed the lively atmosphere along with great food. But, we found the food this time sub-par. The sauces with the vegetable appetizers were always the best part of the meals but they are watered down and lack any taste. The servers seemed more interested in the large party of 14 then serving us even though we ordered a substantial amount of food. The Manager was pleasant and hospitable and comped one of our dishes when she saw it was undercooked. Our waiter was not very aware and recommended a bread dish for dipping when in fact the bread dish was covered in egg. Not sure how it works for dipping.
We came here for an early date night before a concert. We took the advice of the waiter and ordered a number of starters to share as well as one main. The wings and calamari standout as great starters I would order again. The real prize of the night was being there early enough to order the burger. It was divine. I’m always on the hunt for a great burger and thought I wouldn’t fin anything better than a couple others I’ve found in Chicago and Austin but boy was I wrong. I plan to come back to sit at the bar for a burger and beer for a special occasion treat.
I loved this place. Would happily go back and recommend it to my friends who like good things and not bad things.
Love the creative menu, including cocktails - great service and great low key, hip atmosphere. Could use one more dessert option :)
Eggplant benedict is my first impression. Awesome! The pancake and toast are also prefect. Strong recommendation, absolutely.
Really wanted to try the burger, but it is only served to the general seating from 6-7pm. Otherwise, you have to sit at the bar. Not sure why they do that (kind of annoying in my opinion).
Unique food and shareable plates so you get to try multiple dishes.
Very cool space with an interesting/unique menu. We ordered a bunch of items focusing mostly on the small/medium sized plates so that we could try as many things as possible. Of the 9 dishes we ordered 2 were amazing, 2 were disappointing, and the other 5 were meh. For the price of the meal I would have expected a much more memorable dining experience. Unfortunately, the most memorable part of meal was the feeling of despair after spending so much money on such mediocre food.
Everything was DELICIOUS. Our server was very friendly, helpful, and attentive. I look forward to the next time at Mott St
The staff were so friendly and accommodating when we had a special request. They went out of their way to make our experience a great one.
Food is phenomenal- communal seating is not ideal for a romantic or private meal, and service is a little laissez-fairs, but overall a great dining experience.
Excellent food but wow is the staff rude. They almost refused my service dog and they didn’t want to seat at a an open table (they tried to put us on a shared table) when there were 10 open empty tables
Everything was amazing! I recommend coming with a group so you can try as many dishes as possible.
