What Insiders Are Saying
Mott Street, a restaurant on Ashland near Wicker Park, serves interesting, delicious Asian-influenced food.
A few dishes were good but overall it was average. The dishes sounded really good, but the execution fell short. At the price point one expects better which is one of the reasons why I wouldn't recommend it, or put it in my rotation.
Loved the drinks — I like how the cocktails had adjectives listed. And the sake tasting was special. Food was flavorful and fun fusion — great for sharing. A little loud, even for a group of three.
All the food was incredible! The burger was a must and worth the wait at the bar.
The szechwan shrimp tasted soapy.
The raddler was delicious.
The garlic rice was meh.
The oyster mushrooms were also meh.
The food was delicious but we were pressured into ordering a lot of food and then it all came at once. Service left something to be desired, especially for the price point.
Absolutely delicious and creative food. The gailan with eggplant was mind blowing, and I've eaten Gai lan my whole life! The stuffed cabbage with crispy rice was also delicious and unique. We loved everything we got!
Brunch was delicious with inventive combinations and a truly wonderful burger. The service was a little clunky but we had a great time and were able to sit and enjoy the sunshine after our meal.
Always fantastic! I’ve recommended several people to this restaurant for food Nd cocktails Nd they are never disappointed. Love Mott Street! Unique & delicious. I highly recommend the whole fish, burger, wok seared gai lan and anything that appeals to you to try!
We have been coming here for a few years and we always enjoyed the lively atmosphere along with great food. But, we found the food this time sub-par. The sauces with the vegetable appetizers were always the best part of the meals but they are watered down and lack any taste. The servers seemed more interested in the large party of 14 then serving us even though we ordered a substantial amount of food. The Manager was pleasant and hospitable and comped one of our dishes when she saw it was undercooked. Our waiter was not very aware and recommended a bread dish for dipping when in fact the bread dish was covered in egg. Not sure how it works for dipping.
We came here for an early date night before a concert. We took the advice of the waiter and ordered a number of starters to share as well as one main. The wings and calamari standout as great starters I would order again. The real prize of the night was being there early enough to order the burger. It was divine. I’m always on the hunt for a great burger and thought I wouldn’t fin anything better than a couple others I’ve found in Chicago and Austin but boy was I wrong. I plan to come back to sit at the bar for a burger and beer for a special occasion treat.
I loved this place. Would happily go back and recommend it to my friends who like good things and not bad things.
Love the creative menu, including cocktails - great service and great low key, hip atmosphere. Could use one more dessert option :)
Eggplant benedict is my first impression. Awesome! The pancake and toast are also prefect. Strong recommendation, absolutely.
Really wanted to try the burger, but it is only served to the general seating from 6-7pm. Otherwise, you have to sit at the bar. Not sure why they do that (kind of annoying in my opinion).
Unique food and shareable plates so you get to try multiple dishes.
Very cool space with an interesting/unique menu. We ordered a bunch of items focusing mostly on the small/medium sized plates so that we could try as many things as possible. Of the 9 dishes we ordered 2 were amazing, 2 were disappointing, and the other 5 were meh. For the price of the meal I would have expected a much more memorable dining experience. Unfortunately, the most memorable part of meal was the feeling of despair after spending so much money on such mediocre food.
Everything was DELICIOUS. Our server was very friendly, helpful, and attentive. I look forward to the next time at Mott St
The staff were so friendly and accommodating when we had a special request. They went out of their way to make our experience a great one.
Food is phenomenal- communal seating is not ideal for a romantic or private meal, and service is a little laissez-fairs, but overall a great dining experience.
Excellent food but wow is the staff rude. They almost refused my service dog and they didn’t want to seat at a an open table (they tried to put us on a shared table) when there were 10 open empty tables
Everything was amazing! I recommend coming with a group so you can try as many dishes as possible.
An interesting menu that makes small plates in a group a good experience.
It was dope. I liked it alot and the pork jowels were dope. The oysters with the bread was dope. I'll come back fosh
All the food is excellent and creative.
We had a table of 6, and I have to say after trying many restaurants in Chicago with a party of 6, Mott Street was excellent! The food portions were big enough to share (which can be hard to find). The food was amazing, so many different choices and flavors - the menu is very diverse and everything we had was excellent. I highly recommend! Good vibrant vibe, good service, and well priced for the quality. I also appreciate the fact that our table was ready on time for a 6 top :)
I would recommend this restaurant to a friend with the caveat that it depends on the friend. This place is definitely great people watching, lots of Instagram-y stuff and murals, but the food was underwhelming. We ordered two small plates, two medium, plates, one large plate. The small plates were excellent (brussel sprouts and steamed dumplings), the medium plates were just "ok" and VERY salty (boat noodles and chicken wings), and our large plate, the short ribs, were a complete disappointment. Very tough, un-flavorful meat. This may be more of an apps and drinks kind of place, but we may try again at brunch.
The food was good but the service was awful. He said he would course out our choices since it’s small plates but everything all came out at one time. Then the food got cold as we had just too many dishes at one time. The waiter never checked on us. He eventually came by and we told him we were unhappy but he did nothing about it. Awful service all around.
This place was great-perfect mix of casual but still felt special, cozy atmosphere with adventurous and fun new dishes, and great beer!
Hip spot in Wicker Park. Nice ambiance. Food was excellent, lots of flavor and great menu variety. You can only get the burger at the bar so I guess I'll have to go back. The bar and restaurant were fully seated at 8PM on a wed night, reservation recommended.
Amazing food, service is always a little strange here, very particular about how you order things and when. Asked us to order everything at once and then a ton of stuff came out at the same time and we couldn’t keep up. Would’ve been nicer to order a few things at at time. Server was a bit sharp. Otherwise, nice experience.
Great food, loved our server, super busy so just not enough space for shared plates if you’re at the communal tables. I had a previously poor experience here a few years ago and they won me back! Definitely will be back, highly recommend this neighborhood spot for a cozy brunch with friends. Awesome vibe!
Went for brunch. Great Asian fusion food. Would highly recommend this place. Services was great but it felt a little cramped. Small dining room.
Mott Street is easily one of the best restaurants in the city of Chicago. The food is outstanding and the service just as amazing. If Siskel and Ebert were alive and reviewed local restaurants, they would surely give it "two enthusiastic thumbs up!"
Amazing food and great staff, definitely one of the best restaurants in Chicago!
Food is amazing, one dish was a little over done but still very good. The only thing I would look out for is I was allowed to make a reservation at 930 but when we showed up we were told the kitchen closes at 10, so felt a little rushed.
Best burger in Chicago. Great cocktails. Very helpful staff. I put in my reservation that we needed wheelchair accessible seating and they called the day of to let us know about options for entering the restaurant (there's a small step in the front).
Love Mott Street for brunch! We always get the burger and coconut pancakes. Great coffee, too.
The burger was pretty good but the rest was nothing special -- we got brussel sprouts, cauliflower, wings and steamed buns. Veggies lacked flavor and wings were dry. The vibe was cool and our cocktails were good.
First visit. Best night out in a long time. Terrific food. Great atmosphere. Perfect staff attention. Missed the window for the burger in the dining area so I guess I will have to go back!
Went for my 34th birthday with my wife for brunch. From the moment we were greeted we felt immediately welcome and were shown to our table with out any hesitation or wait. The staff were very helpful as this was our first time visiting and gave us some great suggestions as well as time to explore the menu. Above all else the food was amazing, every dish was exceptional. The Chefs clearly spare no detail in creating beautiful, very composed dishes.
Can’t wait to go back for dinner service!
