A visit to Hong Kong is not complete with a trip down memory lane of Chungking Mansions.... and to eat a nice South Asian meal in a typical Chungking Mansion restaurant where you can get a glimpse of the melting pot that Hong Kong really is, what better place than Khyber Pass Mess. The owner('s son) was a gracious host - and half Filipino / half Pakistani (we felt at home), the food was delicious and the service was quick. We enjoyed it after a long morning of being out and about in Hong Kong (followed then by a nice nap back at our hotel). MoreOpenTable Diner -
Courses could be served a bit quicker, but otherwise a quality evening with fantastic food. MoreOpenTable Diner -
Great food. Attentive staff. Cozy ambience. We enjoyed the lunch very much. It was for my friend’s birthday celebration. The restaurant presented birthday wishes when serving the dessert. Very thoughtful of them and this made a perfect close to our first time visit. MoreOpenTable Diner -
We were lucky to hear about Peking Garden Tsim Sha Tsui Star House from a tour guide. She told us about the Beggars Chicken and the story (or myth?) behind it. It sounded so intriguing that we just had to try it. We made the mandatory 24 hour in advance reservation to order the Beggars Chicken and it was well worth it! A cart was wheeled over to our table with the magnificatin crusted chicken. I was told to take their hammer and pose for a photo cracking the shell. Of course, the whole restaurant was watching! Then the server lit it on fire and then when the fire died down, he proceeded to carefully removed the shell to unlock the delectable chicken amidst a ton of steam. It was delicious! What an experience! MoreOpenTable Diner -

In regards to the economic growth of 1960s Hong Kong, there was an anecdote about Bonham Road where there were many beautiful houses. The socialites liked to unwind in an exclusive venue at Bonham Road during weekends.
There was an overseas student who had just returned from his studies abroad, a businessman of a watch company, a banker, a shipbuilding expert and a college professor. Although they came from various backgrounds, they were well educated and they had savored different delicacies. Therefore, this venue became a spot of sharing experiences and enjoying life.
