Pane e Vino Trattoria
Pane e Vino is always good--love their salads, pastas and mains. There was one problem however for a daily special pasta: really huge shell-on prawns with very long and skinny claws (looked like mini lobster-y crustaceans) were sauteed in a very tomato-saucy sauced pasta; while quite delicious, it was beyond messy to eat (you absolutely had to use your hands along with a nut cracker that was not the correct design for shellfish). No extra napkins were offered, nor were wet towels or finger bowls for cleaning up very messy fingers after. Two of us ordered this dish with the expectation that we would be eating large shell-free prawns.... Suggestion: grill those huge shellfish (untouched by tomato sauce) and serve them along side the sauced pasta! We'll definitely be back again for the restaurant's awesome food!
Consistently a winner for many years! There was a large crowd of Italians here Thurs night, the food, guests and ambiance made us feel like we were transported to Rome. Loved every minute! Gracie!
A friend took us here and we loved it so much, we came back later in the week and the food and service were just as stellar as the first time. We'll be returning the next time that we are in San Francisco.
Pane e Vino was a wonderful dining experience. The food was excellent, the wait staff friendly, easy going and very, very knowledgable about both food and wine. It was a delightful evening and we definitely would return again.
We celebrated a birthday here with our company and it was such a pleasant experience. All dishes were very fresh and you could tell that love was put into the food. Fresh pastas were flavorful and portion sizes were great! The staff sang Happy Birthday in Italian and it was such a fun time! They are great for all size parties and were able to accommodate our large table of 12.
We went there last Sunday for dinner with my family. The food was very good, the service was fine. The only thing was when my husband used the bathroom, when he was exiting the bathroom he stepped on a used toilet paper with BM on it. He told the manager but the manager did nothing about it. My husband had to clean his shoes. The manager was not concerned at all.
He was very disappointed
Took out of town friends. We all enjoyed the food. Portions were large enough to share for appetizers & desserts.
Great place for family get together. Quiet enough for conversation with great food. Everyone happy with their entree.
Wonderful, authentic Italian cuisine. Excellent service.
Everything about the dining experience at Pane e Vino is superb. My guests, who had not dined here previously, repeatedly remarked about the great food and ambiance and volunteered that they planned to return. I have dined here many times over the years and it just seems to get better and better. I am somewhat reluctant to post this review as I fear I might not be able to get a table in the future.
Lovely place very homey
We love the - - - bistecca alla florentina! Of course everything is great - and lately if we are too full after our meal - desert is the affogato - strong coffee - sweet cream and ice cream - yummmy! Most important of all the Pane e Vino team is warm - welcoming - efficient and a big reason to keep returning!
We always love Pan y Vino. Wonderful atmosphere and great, well prepared food
Great atmosphere with a real Italian feel to it. Service was great, food phenomenal, and perfect for a date.
Would recommend for a more personal 1:1 date.
Excellent Italian Restaurant
The Food is AMAZING!
Love this restaurant and need to come back. There are so many restaurants to eat in but this one has been a neighborhood gem for a long time. Fabulous homemade pasta with perfect sauces, fresh inventive salads as well. So enjoyed our dinner there on Sunday night.
Good food. Good wine. Good service. Neighborhood gem
Pan e Vino has been our reliable "go to" restaurant for many years. Many Union St. restaurants have come and gone, but Pan e Vino persists due to its consistent high quality food, friendly staff, and welcoming, neighborhood atmosphere. We always leave in a good mood, well fed, having met someone interesting, and with a handshake from one or more employees. We happily recommend Pan e Vino to guests looking for a true San Francisco local experience. Thank you for being there and for your commitment to excellence.
Food is always fresh and great variety on menu Will make specials too
Always good Italian food and well-prepared fresh seafood. This restaurant is a charming and casual neighborhood place that is a favorite among locals. The restaurant will also make any pasta dish that is requested- even if not on the menu. Extremely accommodating and friendly great service.
Food was quite mediocre.
The service and food was very good however the Maitre D that seated us needs some training in comsumer relations.
Top notch ! Delicious !
Another great evening with a group of family here. The service is great -- genuinely friendly wait-staff who want you to have a good time. Food is top-notch Italian with a wide range of choices.
Booked this place last minute for New Year’s eve and it was available. The food was super delicious, we ordered papardelle con fungi and penne. The pasta had a perfect softness (dont fancy too soft pasta) so it was great dinner overall. The espresso was very spot on! Lovely dinner overall
New year’s eve
We've been going to this restaurant for years and it has never disappointed us. Wonderful to have this restaurant in our neighborhood.
Tutto Bene !! Fabio was outstanding as usual. Molto Grazie !!
We got there early, and tables weren’t ready, so we had no probables waiting and watching all the amazing food come by us. Then the manager gave us a glass of sparkling wine for waiting (they weren’t late- we were early)- super nice! Food was delicious (had the branzino and some pastas) and service was great. This is a neighborhood gem and a wonderful place for a nice dinner!
A favorite restaurant, but always a mistake to go on weekends. Need another waiter to handle the crowds. Artichoke not so good- maybe shouldn’t have it so out of season?
Bruno, Dario and the team are great. Beautiful delicious food.
I had to cancel. Called the restaurant 1 hour before to cancel with them...could not get online. This a is a review from a diner 4 months ago.
Fabuo is il uomo
Pane e Vino has always been a go-to for a great, authentic Italian meal, in a charming space where people remember you. It's always just wonderful!
Authentic Italian restaurant, great neighborhood vibe with a staff that makes you feel like you are celebrating something, even when you've merely wandered in for dinner. This is one of my top 5 restaurants in all of San Francisco. Love it!
Authentic Italian and fabulous service. The service was exceptionally good.
We celebrated a birthday here - what a treat for the great service team to sing Happy Birthday in Italian!
The food is consistently great - served by a great bunch of people - don't miss this neighborhood super place to eat and enjoy each other's company!
One of our favorite Italian restaurants. We were disappointed in the service. We were served oil and finally had to ask for some bread. Requested more water but it took three tries to get refills. Not your usual good service!!
Just the best food you will ever eat!!!
Expertly prepared Italian dishes and outstanding service from staff who really know food and wine. Specials are always outstanding. A favorite when we lived in SF, and we make sure to visit whenever we’re in town.
