Ambra - Philadelphia
Amazing! One of the best all around tasting menus in the city.
Just dined at Ambra and once again the food and service were spectacular. I agree with many of the other reviewers that the food is on par with the best restaurants in the city (Laurel, Vernick, Volver). The squid ink spaghetti with crab was spectacular as was the peking duck with a fresh corn polenta. But it is getting a bit pricey at $92.00. And the wine list while remaining interesting has very few selections that are less than $100.00. Quite a few over $200. This is a departure from past visits and may explain why the restaurant was less than half full. I will continue to go, although a bit less frequently, and I am seriously considering going down to my wine cellar, bringing my own and paying the $50 corkage.
Went for the dueling sommeliers and it was such a cool experience. Will be back.
Excellent, cosy restaurant. Value was tremendous, service was outstanding and wine list was gorgeous and fair
Absolutely fantastic! We're going back in two weeks.
exquisite dining experience. rivals michelin star restaurants in terms of creativity, quality, presentaiton and experience. truly a special meal.
We had an amazing time and loved our meal. Staff is friendly and professional, food was delicious and original. We already booked for the next menu! A must try and truly one of the best restaurants in Philadelphia.
A very special little place. Decor is casual but so well done and beautifully appointed. Food was so interesting and not the run of the mill. One of the courses was not to my liking so they made me something else that was outstanding. There were 8 little courses. The finale dessert was a show stopper . High drama. Don't want to ruin it for anyone else so I won't tell you about the spectacular presentation. Was Show Biz! Loved it!!
Ambra is magical. We absolutely loved our meal, no options, tasting menu only, be prepared to eat! Service is professional without being stuffy. Can’t wait to go back.
It was a good experience, the service was good. There were 1-2 dishes that were more tart, it was hiding the other flavors. the hosts were great, ambience was good. We had a good time
Food was delicious and service was fabulous. Had a very enjoyable evening and will definitely go back. Totally worth it, terrific experience.
Outstanding in every way. They get all the details right. The menu changes every few months and are always fun and delicious, this was our third visit this year. I don’t know how this place doesn’t get more press, food and service are amongst the top in the city.
This was our 1st time at Ambra. Absolutely fabulous meal! The wine pairing with each course Phenomenal. Service was great. We can’t wait to go back!
Ambra is a hidden gem of Philly: a 16 seat restaurant serving a 9 course tasting menu of contemporary Italian fare. Highlights of our meal were the tempura fried morel stuffed with chicken sausage, the Sea’sar salad with shrimp mortadella, and the smoked chicken Marsala with house made spaghetti! The ambiance, decor, and food were are an absolute delight! We really enjoyed our wine pairings as well!
Greeted us immediately with an aperitif. The service was perfect silently giving us refills without having to ask. Food was excellent and came out on time not rushed. Would go back.
I've been here several times now and each time gets better than the last. The menu changes, so I won't get into any specific dish, but each morsel is delicious. The wine pairing is interesting and spot on. We really also enjoy the ambience. It is quiet and lovely and possible to have a conversation. I hope this place stays around for a LONG time! We will be back again and again.
One of the top meals I have had living in Philadelphia for 10 years! Incredibly tasty dishes created by the chef. Chic decor and comfortable, intimate atmosphere, superb service. Have already recommended to family, friends and colleagues. I look forward to going back.
Wasn’t aware when I booked this that it was an 8 course chefs tasting menu. It is a very small and intimate space. Every course was amazing! Would definitely go back. The wine pairing were good but we would just order a bottle of wine next time. They were super attentive without being intrusive. The food is really a treat and plated beautifully. Left stuffed and looking forward to going back.
Ambra is Philadelphia's best special occasion restaurant. It's gorgeous, the service is friendly and knowledgeable, the food and drink wonderful. Come hungry, it's a lot of food! The wine pairings make the evening extra special, but even if you just want a single glass, you've come to the perfect place.
I loved the small, intimate setting and we got the earliest reservation which was extra nice b/c we were the only ones in the restaurant for 1.5 hours and had the place to ourselves. It is a small, intimate space. The food was great, the drinks were good; but for the cost I would highly suggest going to Vetri or Zahav instead. This place was very good, but for the same price point you can get something elsewhere that is really a blow-you-away experience. However, if you like the idea of Vetri and the like but are not a very adventurous eater; this may be a good fit for you.
This was my second visit and we had high expectations, as the previous meal and service were fantastic. This time around the price had increased by about $20 per person, and the food was mediocre at best. Had not one, not two, but three servers- so wasn’t sure who was who. They were attentive... but aside from ordering the wine pairing along with the tasting menu, the Sommelier was not of any help in choosing a glass. I ordered sparkling water, and rather than leave the bottle on the table they filled the glasses then took the bottle away. They were attentive in refilling the glass without asking, but it wasn’t apparent to us until the bill came that they charged us $18 for 3 bottles of Pelligrino. Very shady was to make an extra buck Ambra. No plans to return.
Great place for a quiet dinner with unforgettable food.
Let me start off by saying it was absolutely amazing! They only offer a tasting menu. We did the wine flight with our meal and the wines were wonderfully paired. We enjoyed a few extra glasses of wine and some coffee and digestives after the meal. Having said that, the bill was over $800 for 4 people before tip. (Maybe we would’ve been better off buying the wine by the bottle) Again the food, service, and ambiance were wonderful, but bring your wallet.
Fabulous from the first bite. And every course was equally wonderful. Will definitely make Ambra our go to spot for special dining.
Ambra may not be for everyone, but if you are looking for the ultimate dining experience, this is the restaurant . Every course is meticulously prepared and served the same. All the ingredients are the best quality one can find. Each course if you select the wine pairing is perfectly balanced to the course to truly enhance the course.
The service, the ambience is impeccable.
We had gone on with a lot of expectation, but the food lacked innovation and quality. We have been to other plated menu restaurants in town and we found them better!
By far the best meal we have had in a while. Absolutely outstanding.
Best dining experience in Philly. Superb food and service and one can have a lovely conversation!
The chef is one of the most creative in the city and the tasting menu is always well integrated and thoughtful. The two pasta dishes were exceptional and the sword fish shaped like a small canolli and stuffed was inspired. The braised beef short rib melted in ones mouth. We go regularly when the menu changes and will, therefore be returning soon. Had a wonderful 2000 Dolcetto -- where else do you find aged wines --- that was reasonably priced.
Great ambiance and staff. Food was well portioned and unique. Tasting menu price was a bit expensive but the food was worth it. Would definitely recommend.
This was the best dining experience I have had in Philly in over two years. We came for a date and thoroughly enjoyed the tasting menu and wine pairing. I would highly recommend the wine pairing. I am looking forward to coming again, special occasion or not.
Fun tasting menu. Incredible service.
Absolutely fabulous experience. The food, the service, the wine pairings. I wish I had done it before.
In my opinion, this is the best restaurant in Philly. Better than Vetri, Vernick, Laurel, and others. And I always leave FULL. It's actually too much food, but it's so good...
Ambra is one of the best restaurants in the city. Chef's tasting menu only with exquisite dishes you are unlikely to have anywhere else. Each one is a gem. The optional wine pairings are outstanding. Small, intimate room.
Dinner was excellent. Very varied and each course was delicious. Our only negative comment is that the music was too loud for an intimate restaurant. Would definitely return!
Ambra was one of the best dinners I’ve had in Philadelphia, up there with Laurel, Vernick, Vedge, and Zahav. The food is on point, and the service/wine pairing is incredible.
Food was good... somehow ai did not get inloved. Music very high and it was cold inside. Half empty in a friday night so not great ambiance
Certainly one of the best meals I have had in Philadelphia or maybe ever.
Really an excellent tasting menu, ambiance, and service. Not sure anyone could find any faults here. Highly recommended.
