Refreshingly different menu executed exquisitely. Cheerful and knowledgeable staff. This is my favorite restaurant in Los Altos right now. There are so many dishes I can't wait to try next time.
Hard to choose which aspect of dining here so special. Is it the beautifully prepared food that is fresh, interesting and full of flavor? Or no, maybe it is the delightfully warm, knowledgeable and attentive staff. From the very generous welcome when you first set foot in the door to the ongoing friendly and highly professional service from every person on staff; the whole experience is such a joy. Highly recommend for a night with friends, a long date, family gathering. Actually, can’t think of any reason NOT to go. Special shout out to Andrew the owner who makes you feel like he invited you personally and to fun and attentive Kevin who knew every single ingredient.
I particularly enjoy the seasonal changes of this menu and the occasion was my daughter’s birthday. The refreshing Asa G&T was a taste of the promise of Spring. The asparagus appetizer was terrific and the market fish, halibut, was prepared deliciously on a bed of green pea purée. Their lemony dessert was heaven. While there was a huge party in the middle of the room, service was spot on and we were able to get home at half time to see the Warriors rout the Clippers, feeling very deliciously happy.
The food at Asa is always incredible, this visit didn’t disappoint. Our food server was also a lot of fun. The reason for lower ratings this time is we really felt like we were getting a hard sell on alcohol. From both our server and the host. It was strong enough that we all commented on it and it did have an impact on an otherwise lovely evening.
The vegetarian soups here are the best! There are some good entree options for vegetarians as well. The staff is always friendly.
Everything was excellent. Loved the cocktails and all of the food I had.
Make reservations using Open Table- when we arrived it was opening at 530pm and by 615pm it was full.
Great food, great service though only 1 server for the whole restaurant. The Appetizers we had were a little over seasoned yellow tail habachi and the shrimp. It was good but you couldn't taste the seafood. My rose lemonade was a bit warm could've used more ice. Not the best non alcoholic beverage but very pretty! Seriously delish party on your palate entree the rainbow swordfish. As stated earlier the server is the only one in the whole restaurant but he really did a great job balancing things. There are bussers abd other staff dropping off food and refilling your water. I'd definitely go to Asa again. The dinner crowd is a little loud, but the vibe is fun. Many types of people even a few younger people (aka children😊). Definitely a great place!
Yet again, another fabulous meal. We tried two new appetizers. Wow, they great. Had the filet and it was amazing. Wine selected was a perfect match to meat and duck. Can't wait to back.
The curried carrot soup was outstanding and the entrees we chose (halibut and scallops,) were very good but not outstanding. The seafood paella was way too salty. The brownie dessert was very dry - even the ice cream couldn't make up for the dryness. We had heard such rave reviews of ASA and for the expense of it, we were expecting everything to be over the top. We will go back a second time to try other items on the menu before I would recommend it to friends.
This is a gem of a restaurant in the heart of The Valley. Andrew the proprietor is amazing and present!! His engaging style permeates to his whole team😎
Oh....the food & bubbles are great too!!!
Very nice dinner. Lovely ambiance and friendly, efficient service.
Cocktails were the best I’ve had recently - creative and delicious. Food was tasty, unique, and well presented, but everything was just a little too salty (still delicious, but almost felt like a mistake it was so salty). Great decor and ambience, but fairly loud.
Celebrating my husband’s birthday at one of our favorite restaurants did not disappoint. Fabulous host Andrew welcoming as usual. Enjoyed well prepared and seasoned lobster toast, satisfying shrimp, freshly made arugula salad and perfectly done porter house steak. We love the consistently great food and service. Love to see our favorite severs- hello Bruno and great time dining at bar.
Food was great, service excellent
Service was excellent. Food was very good and nicely presented. We expected a loud experience and it was noisy but tolerable. The bill was definitely on the high side, however. I'll return but not frequently.
A great experience from the moment we walked in the door. Maitre de was gracious and welcoming. Excellent cocktails and food. The appetizers and entrees were delicious. Especially enjoyed the paella appetizer and roast chicken. The portions were very generous.
I would have given it all 5 stars but it is noisy. Also although service is good it took a little too long to get to us in the beginning. If you want a happening place this is it. And the food is amazing.
It was a busy Friday night. We went there to celebrate a birthday but apparently they forgot ours (other tables had birthdays). Service was initially friendly but then waiter disappeared and did not reappear until 40 minutes later, telling us our dinners were being plated. 10-15 minutes later our food arrived. No apology or explanation. The food was good but service could have been much better. A disappointment.
Disappointed that I had added a note that it was my husband's birthday but we didn't get anything special. Meanwhile we saw 3 tables around us getting birthday candles with dessert. The food service was also really slow and at one point we waited 30min between plates. However, the water boy was on top of it and VERY attentive. Shout out to them. A few dishes were hits, and others were a bit tough in texture. The Bellota didn't seem authentic for the price (really didn't seem like it was Bellota at all to be honest) so we were very disappointed there. Overall, it would be hard to recommend this to friends due to the shortcomings that we experienced on a special occasion.
Attentive staff overall , pretentious crowd though but that’s not the fault of the restaurant.
Food was delicious, very rich, and expensive. Service was fantastic.
Our server, who, understood service, was a true professional. The greeter ( maybe owner?) seemed "pretentious" I would have looked past this, if, the food had been worth the money: it was good, but, not worth the price! My advice: offer more reasonably priced, signature drinks, good, but reasonably, priced house wines; maybe tie into winery promotions, and, looking at the patrons I saw, make it more, family friendly at happy hour! (when I think everyone has reached their goal for that day saying: I have made it to this point in the day and whether you like it or not, I deserve a reward. After 7:00, make it a Silicon valley destination hot spot.
Great as always. Best martini in town.
Nice variety, well executed food.
ASA is amazing! Andrew and his team are always so welcoming and the food is consistently fabulous! ASA is truly a Los Altos gem and gorgeous place to dine if you want fresh ingredients, sustainably sourced seafood and delicious appetizers, entrees and tasty desserts made in-house.
Everything here is done very well. All without looking as though they are trying hard. The restaurant was packed, and the staff helped us feel comfortable and special for a nice night out. Cocktails are legit, and plenty of wait staff. Food was perfect, great wine pairings. Usually I have to go to SF to have is level of quality, you just do. But it’s so great that they have made this in Los Altos. We spent 2.5hrs here dining. Was tremendous. Thank you and we will be back.. This is easily one of the more well executed restaurants south of SF. Thank you
Everything was terrific! Food, ambiance and service are top-notch.
We came for a family dinner, although it was a weeknight. Our booking helped us to have a table ready for our arrival. The restaurant was packed and everyone was clearly enjoying themselves. The mood was quiet and elegant. The service was superb.
We tried the cocktails and wine along with the appetizers like lobster toast, shrimp and garlic bread. They were all good. They dont serve just table bread with oil vinegar, which they should in my opinion.
We had the fish of the day, the salad of the day (I think the salad selections need to expand and be more seasoned. The salads lacked any taste or standout flavors). The fish was excellent. We also tried the scallops which were lovely. The mushroom pasta was ok, again nothing stands out as special in that either.
The desserts were nice, a blend of most favorites.
Overall, we had a very nice evening. Just enough attention to enjoy the service and not feel hovered over. The ambiance is nice the cutlery useful and not insipid.
I would recommend this restaurant. Its a very nice addition to Los Altos dining spots.
Finally an innovative restaurant in downtown Los Altos. The food was great, the server was knowledgeable and made terrific recommendations that we really enjoyed. For starters we had the duck fat roasted potatoes and paella Valencia, for dinner the delicious pork shoulder and seared scallops with risotto. For dessert we had an incredible chocolate sorbet and latte's. All our food came at a nice pace so we could savor each course. We brought a special bottle of wine and paid a $25. corkage fee. Our reservation was at 8:15 and we were there until 10:30. The first time we've been out in Los Altos that late. The restaurant was still pretty full. Amazing! We will be back.
Although the food was excellent, I was most impressed with the staff. We were greeted enthusiastically upon entering and treated with care and patience. The staff was super friendly and made us feel very welcome. Back to the food---the portions were small but very well prepared. Everyone in our party especially liked the apple galette for dessert. We all had a very enjoyable evening.
The food was amazing. So delicious! I may have overeaten. Ok... I totally over ate, but it was all worth it!
We always go to ASA if we can get a table. Food is always delicious, service is always fantastic! Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Bay Area. Must try their paella!
As always, food was fantastic, staff knowledgeable and attentive and the overall ambience great. Our favorite restaurant!
Food was delicious. Ambiance warm. Only downside was being scolded for accidentally making 2 reservations.
Drinks and food were amazing! Service was wonderful too. Our server brought over a couple wines for us to taste before making our decision.
Loved the food and service. Place is a bit noisy and overcrowded but that’s pretty normal around here.
This was a dining experience that I could not forget and it was spectacular. Everything was picture perfect as my partner and I stepped in, but the service from Bruno brought everything to another level. He was extremely fun, and patient, but knew how to get work done. And extremely personable! The food was fantastic, exceeded any possible expectations. And the housemade cocktails were amazing. I cannot wait to come back and try everything on the menu! Thank you for making my boyfriend's birthday so special.
A little too loud! Good food, service quite good, not super great. We’d go back for sure but quite as overall great as we hoped.
We've now been to Asa 4 or 5 times and each has been truly remarkable. The food isn't just good, it is consistently delicious, inventive, well considered and always elicits sounds of contented bliss from all at our table as we taste each dish. This last time was special since we were with good friends from out of town who enjoy great food as we do. They were not disappointed. We split everything and had the snapper special with a red pepper coulis (sublime), scallops (the sweetest and most perfectly cooked any of us had ever had), lobster toast (wonderful chunks of lobster not overpowered by the creme fraiche, stewed red chili and lemon), the always wonderful paella Valencia with the perfect rice crust on the bottom. We nearly came to blows to see who would get the last bite. The duck was simply the best any of us had ever had. It was perfectly cooked and exceptionally tender. It wasn't unctuously fatty as often happens and the sauce was not the overly sweet fruit base one often gets. It was just delicious and lovely. The service was again friendly and attentive and our wait person was entirely familiar with all the dishes and answered every question. We had the excellent La Cana Albarino and the Longoria Pinot Noir which was a real find for me recommended by our knowledgeable friend.
The space is a bit loud, but less so than many places these days and our friends commented that this is how they would like to decorate their home! Loved the lights with the feathers(?)! As is becoming his custom, as we left the owner came outside to thank us and ask how everything was. Asa is the restaurant I've always dreamed of!
