A little too loud! Good food, service quite good, not super great. We’d go back for sure but quite as overall great as we hoped.
We've now been to Asa 4 or 5 times and each has been truly remarkable. The food isn't just good, it is consistently delicious, inventive, well considered and always elicits sounds of contented bliss from all at our table as we taste each dish. This last time was special since we were with good friends from out of town who enjoy great food as we do. They were not disappointed. We split everything and had the snapper special with a red pepper coulis (sublime), scallops (the sweetest and most perfectly cooked any of us had ever had), lobster toast (wonderful chunks of lobster not overpowered by the creme fraiche, stewed red chili and lemon), the always wonderful paella Valencia with the perfect rice crust on the bottom. We nearly came to blows to see who would get the last bite. The duck was simply the best any of us had ever had. It was perfectly cooked and exceptionally tender. It wasn't unctuously fatty as often happens and the sauce was not the overly sweet fruit base one often gets. It was just delicious and lovely. The service was again friendly and attentive and our wait person was entirely familiar with all the dishes and answered every question. We had the excellent La Cana Albarino and the Longoria Pinot Noir which was a real find for me recommended by our knowledgeable friend.
The space is a bit loud, but less so than many places these days and our friends commented that this is how they would like to decorate their home! Loved the lights with the feathers(?)! As is becoming his custom, as we left the owner came outside to thank us and ask how everything was. Asa is the restaurant I've always dreamed of!
Restaurant was very busy. Service was slow to begin with but pleasant enough. Kitchen was slow but food was lovely. Will return.
Amazing like always. Thanks.
ASA is now my favorite restaurant in Los Altos, need more places like ASA.
Great on a date or with girl friends, food and service are consistently good, and good ambiance
Asa is by far the best restaurant in Los Altos and one of if not the best on the peninsula. Their friendly, attentive staff truly care about your experience and the food is wonderful variety of dishes prepared and presented in top quality fashion. While it is a little pricey, it is well worth the experience.
Fantastic food. Really enjoyed our meal. The beef was perfectly cooked and everyone was really friendly. Definitely recommend it.
LOVE this place - good cocktails, great food - all class
excellent , interesting preparations....limited menu with specials...friendly, efficient staff......our server, kevin , was outstanding....ok decor, but very noisy....good and pricey wine list......corkage is a reasonable $25.....will definitely go back
Great Service and Amazing food . I wish the cocktails (scotch / Bourbon) based good have been better .
We love Andrew and his team at the Basin, and we were of course thrilled (and not surprised) that he has built a strong, positive experience ambiance and dining experience at Asa. The beef Wellington was a dream, some familiar small plates from Basin but also new fare, and all washed down by a fabulous wine list. We strongly recommend coming to Asa for a beautiful dinner!
This is not a restaurant for a quiet cozy intimate dinner. It is usually packed and noise level is high. Food is very good and it is fun with a noisy group. Wish they had good wines on the less expensive level.
Food was great as usual. Love this place. Scallops were perfectly. Can't wait to go back?
I'd been wanting to go to Asa for a while, it's been recommended over and over by good friends and colleagues and I must say I was not disappointed. Overall the experience was outstanding, James was a first class host, my expectations were exceeded.
What a great place! From our gracious and welcoming host to our personable and knowledgeable server Bruno, to the expertly made craft cocktails and exquisite seafood dishes, we were thoroughly impressed with our first experience at Asa. I say ‘first’ because we will definitely be back again soon!
Superb food, superb service.
Andrew, the owner, is very welcoming and creates an excellent atmosphere. The good is consistently inventive and tasty. Great addition to downtown Los Altos!
Third visit and delighted again by the menu quality . A bit noisy but we will br back
The Sea Bass special had the best crispy skin of all time. Great vibe... loved it!
Just love this place! The food is great and the menu has a nice selection so there's something for everyone. The service is outstanding and you don't feel rushed even as the evening draws to a close. I'm a Martini lover and their Martinis are perfect. Highly recommend you make reservations otherwise you'll have a long wait. Great food, awesome service, super ambiance, and parking nearby....it's on my list to go back to!
Fabulous dining experience, openers incredible, waiter exceptional! Food is delicious. What an upgrade Los Altos.
Food, service and ambience were great. Much needed addition to the LA restaurant scene.
Excellent as always! Delicious food, attentive service, great atmosphere.
Visiting San Jose for a conference and found Asa on Open Table. Great find - the food was exceptional, service very attentive without being intrusive, and ambiance offered a touch of modern but still inviting and comfortable. Another reviewer recommended sharing a few of the small plates - we took that advice, and absolutely recommend the same, great way to sample an impressive array of tastes from the menu. Very well complemented by a solid wine-by-the-glass list, and don't miss the "adult ice cream" for dessert.
The black cod dish was great., It was very light and the sauce was very light. We loved it. The oysters were fresh and servers very professional and funny.
The total experience was exceptional and very memorable. For a party of three, we tried 4 appetizers and each one was outstanding. Then we each ordered an entree. Inthe start, our lady server was slow, but the managers picked up the slack. Our server was sweet and chatty and redeemed herself before the night was over. For appetizers we had the Duck fat fried potatoes...their take on Patatas Brava. Exceptional. We also had 5he Iberico Jamon de Bellota...outstanding as well. Then Paella Valencia...exceptional! Last appetizer was Anchovy Toast...so memorable and tasty! For entrees, we had Duck, Pork Shoulder and Seafood Bowl. Each one was exquisite. Pricey but what an experience!
Loved Asa. This was my first time dining there. Drinks were fun and imaginative, food was great, prices were not too expensive. We will definitely be going back soon.
Great as always
The best food service and ambience in the area! All the ingredients are high-quality and sourced from the best providers, it shows up in every meal.
Overall ASA is a very nice restaurant with exceptional service.
Delicious cocktails and Spanish tapas to start, followed by a nice wine list and some lovely main plates. My husband raved about the slow-cooked pork shoulder, for example. It is nice to have a good restaurant in Los Altos that attracts a young and prosperous crowd. It feels like an urban restaurant in our small village.
Very slow service. Food was “just ok” this time....
ASA was terrific and a nice addition to the often rather over priced and mediocre dining scene in the Los Altos/Palo Alto area. The quality of the food and drink options were terrific and well enjoyed. Thier black magic bourbon cocktail was awesome! The veggie paella was creative and delicious as a shared app. The scallops and duck were both outstanding. The dessert ice creme was a disappointment as it was pedestrian and over priced. Service and ambiance were very good. We would certainly return and bring our foodie friends. However, we'd get dessert elsewhere.
Few Vegetarian options but all of them were good. The angry Pasta was amazing.
ALWAYS the BEST experience....favorite place on the peninsula...like the BEST upscale “Cheers”!!!
We found ASA on OpenTable and had not been there before. We were pleasantly surprised to find this up-scale restaurant in the mid-peninsula. The food was great. We had wild mushroom pasta and beef wellington as well as oysters as a starter. While the beef wellington was a bit pricey @$74, we both agreed that it was cooked to perfection. The oysters were decent, but the only piece of feedback is that they were lacking condiments when served. All in all a really delightful dining experience and we will be sure to visit ASA again!
Love this place. The best restaurant in the area.
