What Insiders Are Saying
Babbo is still the best place to feel good in this town.
Mark was excellent!
Amazing food and service!
We LOVED having dinner here! The food was amazing and the staff was incredibly welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend!
First time we went we loved the food and service. This time not so much. I ordered the same things, octopus which the first time was wonderful. This time dry, chewy and not very good. Then Bronzino which was not bad but better the first time.
Wine is very, very, expensive. It's your mortgage payment.
Will not be back so soon.
Great experience. We wanted the pasta tasting menu but cannot eat beef. The chef was able to switch the dish we could not eat for a different one. Amazing food and service.
I really liked my waitress. But she didn’t stay the whole time. The guy that ended waiting my table was excellent. Very nice. Very knowledgeable.
Very good except the noise level was too high , food was excellent
Best spaghetti, best service, very friendly waitresses, lovely ambiance .. perfect dinner!
The service and food were amazing. The restaurant was much more lively than I had expected - the music was fun and hip. Every salad, entree and dessert was so unique in such a simple way. The sommelier (Brian) was so nice and knowledgeable but not snobby. A great meal!
Overrated at best, full stop. The crab pasta was lacking in execution, and flavor, among other things. On top of that it was overpriced. Will not be returning
Great service especially from our waiter Brian. All staff were very accommodating with me and my husband and our 15 month old twins to make it a special bday dinner.
I really don't understand the hype of the restaurant. The place needs to be refreshed. The music is overbearing and didnt fit with the ambiance of the restaurant
They forgot about dessert coffee orders, but the service was good except for the one blip.
Babbo remains to be an icon for great Italian comfort food and if you love pasta, this is definitely your place. We enjoyed a self-composed family style pasta menu which allowed us to taste four of the wonderful pasta offerings. All were perfectly cooked and balanced in flavor and texture, just perfect. We truly enjoyed the food. If there is anything to improve, happy to share three observations: First, while we do like some music in the background, enjoying Jimmy Hendrix for about two hours, relatively loud, is maybe something to think about. Second, the wine list as such is exceptional in its offering, but also on its prices, which are well above an acceptable 2x factor. Being a bit more moderately priced on wine would it make much more enjoyable and would not require people to "bargain hunt". And finally, the booking procedure is for the most part pretty unpleasant...............that all being said: It was still a wonderful Pasta Night!!! Enjoy.
Excellent food, excellent service. It's an experience.
Babbo remains a classic. A place that is always fun to enjoy great pasta with friends. Request a table upstairs--quieter and more light.
Pasta was amazing, perfectly paired with quatrinos of great wine. Meat main dishes were good, and desserts were delicious
Service and food was excellent as always. We didn’t enjoy the music. Totally didn’t seem to match the beautiful ambiance of the restaurant. Reggae??? Weird!
Awesome experience. You will spend some money, but you will get the service, quality, and attention to detail that you expect.
Excellent wine selection with very knowledgable staff that will help you select new and exciting flavors.
It was even better than I remembered it being. The food, service, and wine were amazing. Really great experience.
Loved the energy, ambiance and vibe at this place! We were provided with excellent service and the food was very tasty. Highly recommend this restaurant.
The service at Babbo was impeccable. Everyone from the head server, to the wine staff and even the side staff was terrific. The food was amazing, the best pasta I’ve ever had. Portion size was nice. Tbh - my gf and I shared an appetizer and we could barely finished our main course.
I would highly recommend for Italian
Our waiter Brian was an absolute pleasure. Professional and personal in a natural sincere way. The food is always delicious.
I always look forward to dining at Babbo.
This place has changed a lot, the quality of the food and service has gone down and prices are still very high. Certain average red wines are priced 10x their retail value.
Babbo was awesome, highly recommended for authentic NYC Italian food.
Brought my son to NY for Father’s Day. Dad and son getaway. Food was awesome. Wine was amazing. Great meal.
I have been to Babbo several times. The food was very good as always but the service was terrible. I have always had such great experiences with the waiters but our waiter this time was not good. He wasn’t helpful, never asked how we liked our food or never asked anything for that matter. Never smiled and was just unpleasant. I will eat at Babbo again and continue to recommend it because of the wonderful food. It was my sons first experience there and I told him how wonderful it was. Thanks God the food was so good otherwise he was alittle disappointed.....
We have eaten at Babbo numerous times, since we lice in the neighborhood. Our waiter was not one of their best. We had courses taken away before we were done. We had one course that contained beets. My wife hated it.and returned the plate untouched . No one even asked. When we brought it up we were told, “they will bring out the next course”. We spoke to a manager, no additional course was offered and no discount to the food wAs given.
Next time Il Mulino
Great food. Great service. Waiter and sommelier were very helpful in helping us pick best things on the menu. Only beef is the music got a little weird at one point (screaming metal kind of music). Word is they let the employees choose whatever they want. We mentioned something and it was changed pretty immediately. Other than that, no real gripes. All around fantastic experience
A very disappointing experience - not the former Babbo. Chef had a heavy salt hand and the service, once the first course was served, was disinterested. Required flagging down a busboy to get a waiter back. Not a high end experience for a high end restaurant.
Always noticed to the large noise of music but the food was phenomenal. Seating upstairs is recommended.
Disappointing on all levels. The atmosphere was tired and dead and the food was just fine.
INCREDIBLE experience! The food was outstanding and the service made the experience even better. Such an amazing vibe and ambiance. The upstairs seating felt as if I was in my grandmother's family room. Thanks for a wonderful time! Will be back soon!
Little expensive, especially the wine prices.
But the food was really delicious and creative, compared to typical Italian restaurants.
I had heard so much about how amazing Babbo is, and maybe this set my expectations too high, but the meal was absolutely but forgettable. This isn’t to say the food was bad, it was just fine. But it was only fine. It was not some amazing Italian where the flavors were both subtle and bold, unique yet classic, and all around a joyous experience for your senses. Not worth the price for an italian meal that is only decent. Glad I now know that if I want an unforgettable Italian meal I should stick to Lilia. Now THAT was an unforgettable meal.
Wasn’t impressed. Was expecting a lot better quality food based on its rating.
Disappointing given the reputation. Seated 25 mins after apt time., seating was poor and on top of other people, food items were either delicious or lousy. Buffalo mozz appetizer was terrible, the fileted Branzino was fresh and flavorable but had way too many bones. The warm apple tart was cold. The octopus was perfect, the Bolognese was just okay and the Duck was very disappointing. Heard from a colleague his steak and other dishes were also disappointing but that his pasta with mushrooms in a butter sauce was delicious. Anyway, too uneven. I'll go elsewhere next time.
There was nothing exceptional in anything we had to eat at Babbo. The wine was presented by their wine steward who suggested the most expensive Chianti where the one I eventually chose was a nice choice. The appetizer course was adequate. The enter was totally uninspired. Served dry with no flavorful sauces, the meal was a struggle. Dessert was great. Overall,Babbo is overpriced and over hyped.
The food was excellent and the menu interesting as always. And the service perfect except for the points below. However, perhaps in an effort to maximize daily productivity, they refused to first take an appetizer order, and allow us to order the rest later. That’s not acceptable in this kind of place, especially for a 9 pm reservation. We asked for an explanation and got no response except that one of the main dishes takes a while to cook. My other main complaint, voiced at the restaurant too, is that the music is too loud. It’s a bad habit of many restaurants.
In any event, I still think it’s a great restaurant, a beautiful spot still attracting beautiful people.
The food was very good, but the noise -augmented by overloud music-was horrendous.
