Banyan Bar + Refuge
Brunch is served Saturday & Sunday 11a-4pm
Part gastropub and part modern Asian fusion cuisine, Banyan Bar + Refuge is an inventive eatery with a warm and rustic ambience. Dim Sum dishes include the Avocado Bao Buns served with red curry aioli, chilled cucumbers with fortified black vinegar + and korean peanuts. Asian inspiration continues with Banyan's noodle and rice dishes, such as the dragon noodles, kimchi fried rice with a sunny egg, and seasonal thai basil pesto. Popular dishes include the very tasty banyan burger baos, pan seared red snapper, and shaking beef.
Food was creative and tasty, but expensive for the amount you get.
Best restaurant dinner I've had this year. Each dish was absolutely fantastic. We sat outside on the patio and loved the atmosphere. Service was prompt without being overbearing, and our server was very knowledgeable about each dish on the menu. Would highly recommend!
We sat outside and overall it was pleasant and it was a nice atmosphere but I would describe the food as reasonably good.
It was my first time here and I really enjoyed it! Beautiful design and great food! Drinks were ok
Great patio. Excellent gluten free choices. Yummy drinks. Beautiful interior.
Just had a great brunch here! Everything was delicious but our favorites were the fried oyster bao, fried pork dumplings (I would have taken home a jug of that sauce if they had let me), and the cold noodles. Can’t wait to go back!
The value for the food was okay. I think if you are curious about their food and would like to try it then I'd say go for it. I did really like the Banyan burger baos AND the tuna nachos. Super yum!
Great outdoor seating option, fun tiki drinks, large portions (opt to go as a big group 4+ and order a couple things family style). Favorite include: salt & pepper octopus, $1 dumpling special, and dragon noodles!
Food was fair and a bit overpriced
Lived up to expectations! Fantastic ambiance and very good food!
Lovely outdoor patio. Well-shaded, which we needed on a hot day with a newborn baby. Unhurried service for a Sunday brunch with nine people. Would return in a heartbeat.
Excellent place. I have never been disappointed so far. The food and drinks are great, the patio in the summer is just fantastic.
Delicious and unique food choices....from KFC bao with cauliflower to green tea cheesecake. All selections obviously prepared with attention to every detail. Beautiful setting with plants and overhead string lights. Waitress pleasant but slow to bring drinks, never offered to refill water and only cleared some of the plates on our table. I would return.
Fish was undercooked, burger patties over cooked. Nice ambiance but food and beer list are underwhelming for a “gastro pub”
yes for drinks
however food quality needs to improve dramatically
however would love to compliment the fabulous staff, team, ambiance and fabulous cocktails
Thanks for the champagne for our date, it really made the night special :)
Excellent food - good service
No real air conditioning during a heat wave in Boston made for an uncomfortable dinner. The staff telling us we shouldn’t complain about the heat because they were the ones working in it made it even more awkward. Food was just ok and portions were small for the price. Disappointing experience.
How nice to sit on Banyan Bar’s lovely shaded ( and quiet!) patio in the late afternoon. It was too early for my friends and I to want dinner, but definitely not too early to enjoy an assortment of very delicious $1 dumplings. We didn’t order dinner on this visit, but I would be happy to try several of the menu items on future visits.
Outdoor seating just lovely, food was only mediocre
The brunch menu contained almost no food options but listen many of the drink options twice. Brunch is still a meal guys...
The food and drinks were delicious and service was awesome! This is a great place to go for a celebration!
Amazing. Just amazing. Cocktails are to die for, end every plate we tried was absolutely delicious. The staff had unique care and attention towards our son who has severe allergies- and he had a blast. It's great that there are places like this.
Great food with great ambiance. Mussels and fries were amazing. Drinks were great as well. Will definitely be back.
The restaurant was very accommodating to our group and very careful to help with a shellfish allergy. The waiter made great recommendations and the food was incredible, per usual. The outdoor patio is great for a summer night! Only downfall: the bread pudding is no longer on the dessert menu. Truly tragic, it was my favorite!
Lovely setting, fun vibe. The food is very interesting and has all kinds of unusual spices. We really liked it! The service was friendly but slow and our waitress was oddly opposed to our ordering the dollar dumplings. I said I had a shrimp allergy when she asked about allergies. We inquired about the special dollar dumplings and she said "Oh you want to stay away from those- they have all kinds of things that people are allergic to." We asked if they had shrimp and she said she didn't think so. So we ordered them and the manager double checked to make sure they were ok, which we really appreciated. They were delicious! We would definitely go back! It's a great place to go before the theatre. Just make sure to tell the waitress as soon as you sit down that you're going to a show! We were pressed for time at the end.
We loved the attention that we received from the restaurant!
Excellent dumplings...and they were on special. I also had the pork Katsu, which was good but could have stood more sauce. Fun drink called “The Painkiller.” Nice vibe, although my waiter was a bit clueless. And I deducted a star for not being able to serve a proper pot of tea. Really...a double teabag in a cup? And no place to put the soggy teabag? C’mon...serve tea in a pot and give me a saucer.
Our server Sunday evening Tyler was wonderful! Very welcoming
first time for brunch, and LOVED the Dim Sum menu. Complimentary coffee station was great as well
Amazing outdoor seating and delicious food. Get the frosé too!
Love the space and the staff is always great, super consistent and attentive. I’ve had a few entrees that I didn’t love—one that was just way too spicy and another where the portion felt more like an appetizer.
The cocktails and drinks in general are great. I’d still go back, but would try other food items or maybe order multiple small plates rather than one entree.
A very cool vibe and the outdoor seating is awesome in the summer.
great ambience and service . Good vegetarian food options
Beautiful outdoor patio for brunch
I really love Banyan, having eaten there more than a few times. The food is great, you can actually talk, service is very good, and in the summer you can almost pretend you're eating outside in Europe, even though the food hales from a completely different locale. highly recommend this as a place where everyone can find something to eat and the spicy food is totally edible!
Loved the food and the Supreme Leader. The service was good - the waiter was attentive but not bothersome. The place is pretty noisy but we managed to be seated in a back area so that we could hear each other.
Always a great spot!
Had Brunch and Dinner at Banyan in the same week. Both meals were amazing. What a breath of fresh air for the South End. Highly recommend!
Great food in a great outdoor environment ! We love Banyan, great Asian fusion
