Bar Mezzana is a coastal Italian restaurant by Chef Colin Lynch at Ink Block in Boston’s South End, specializing in crudo and hand-made pasta. Signature dishes like chicken under a brick, Spanish octopus and orecchiette with sausage have become instant classics. Seasonal menu updates incorporate flavors from local farmers and purveyors. The crudo menu changes daily - think Nantucket bay scallops and razor clams along with Japanese and European delicacies like shima aji and lubina. All are expertly prepared with bright touches of citrus, oils and salts.
Reserve in the dining room for a family dinner or date night. Enjoy the bar and lounge for bar snacks, a great burger, and a Nightshift beer. A private dining room is available for a business event or intimate party for up to 12. Great food in a buzzy but minimalist location. Wine overpriced, the food slightly so. No gap between courses so the experience felt very rushed.

Our waitress was excellent, very knowledgeable about the food and wine. Everything was delicious. My only complaint was that the food took quite a while to arrive.

Always great! Chicken under the brick is always superb. Black Bass was excellent. Only negative is they still poor small drinks. Charge me an fill it up.

First time there --- very convenient to where we were meeting a friend. Great place for spending time, visiting, eating. Even though there was a nice "buzz," it wasn't too loud to talk easily. Apps are delish and a great deal --- plenty for sharing. Main courses also delish. Shared 2 among 3 of us. Beer/wine great. Too full for dessert! Wait staff very friendly, very available, but not hovering. Our friend from Japan was very impressed. Would totally go there again!

Bar Mezzana is the best. This was a Lynch twofer night. Cocktails at Shore Leave and dinner at Bar Mezzana. Perfect evening. 5 stars all around! Service is a great and they have the best Italian food in town. I like to graze through the menu trying crostinis and appetizers. They have the most creative salads in the city. I hope the pea tendril salad comes back this summer. In the meantime the citrus salad is amazing.

We are regular visitors to Bar Mezzana and the experience is always excellent. This most recent visit, an early dinner, was even better than usual. Everything seemed to be "on" that evening -- the service, the drinks, the food. We had the Crudo sampler and then the chicken under a brick. The beet flavored cocktail was delicious - exactly as the server described. The Nebbiolo also delicious. It is really one of the most consistent, and consistently enjoyable, restaurants in town.

CJ was a terrific server. The food was quite amazing, especially the pear appetizer, the crudos, The lobster pasta, the spaghetti etc. etc.
Very reasonably priced for the quality of the food.
Reasonably priced wine list.
We had a wonderful time and will be back!

Delicious and innovative Italian cuisine. They’re really mastered it all. The crudo is exceptional and the toast are original. They make great cocktail and have a diverse and thoughtful wine list. Brunch is also excellent!

Could have been an off-night, as much of the Mezzana "magic" was missing. While the usual stars (such as the polpette, tagliolini, and lobster paccheri) were excellent, the crostini and salads lacked the typical level of refinement and flavor.

The food was excellent! Everything was delicious. Service was attentive without being overbearing. We were seated in the bar area because we arrived early for our reservation. We were in a small room in the back with just a couple other tables, which was perfect because the noise level in the main bar and dining room seemed quite high. It’s pricey, but well worth it!

If you’re interested in a very noisy scene with little plates that add up to $150 plus for 2 people. $20 for valet as there is little on street parking then enjoy! Not meant for real dining. Excellent front and wait staff however.

This restaurant is consistently performing at a high level. Food is wonderful, menu offers a variety of choices. Staff are energetic and friendly providing service that is attentive and helpful. Great selection of drinks and wines. Always a pleasure to dine here!!!

He quality of the food was amazing. Crudo and crostini were absolutely delicious. Focaccia was extremely enjoyable. The only we bit of criticism J have is that brunch menu was a little bread centric. Focaccia, crostini, Benedict, breakfast sandwiches.

We will be back and I highly recommend! Chef was there serving and enjoying himself.

The service here is always incredible! They do such a great job making you feel like you're part of the family. The food on the other hand is even better - fresh pasta, delicious home made pastries... you can't go wrong whether it's for brunch or dinner. Highly recommended!!

Service was great, had eggs Benedict with prosciutto it was amazing. My friend and I split the toasted banana bread, just the right amount of sweet and crispy. Always enjoy brunch here.

The service was Incredibly slow. And the food was unfortunately very average. The truffle toast was good; but lobster over cooked in pasta dish and ravioli nothing to rave about. Not worth the prices.

Wonderful dinner at Bar Mezzana. They were very accommodating when we needed to change our reservation and we were seated promptly upon arrival. Our server was friendly and attentive. As others have mentioned, the housemade rosemary focaccia was excellent, and seconds were offered to us without prompting. Drinks and wine came quickly. For appetizers we had the Spanish octopus and Ricotta crostini. Entrees included Wild Mushroom pasta and Lobster Paccheri. Pasta was cooked to a true al dente, which we prefer. For dessert we split the Ginger Spice cake with ice cream which we enjoyed. We availed ourselves of the valet parking which was $20 plus tip, but very welcome on a rainy night with no street parking to be found. One star deduction for tables set close together and a pretty loud noise level but none of this detracted from the enjoyment of our evening. Can't wait to return for more of that bread!!!

Consistently great food; the noise level in most restaurants these days is hard to take, and Bar Mezzana is no exception. I wish the busy ambiance was not so prevalent; it gets in the way of genuine conversation.

We were seated promptly. Another server asked us what we wanted to drink after we had already put in our drink order. We ordered the pasta with parmesan, lemon and prosciutto, the burger and the affogato. The pasta was cooked well but felt like something was missing. Still tasty! Burger was Big Mac reminiscent ( delicious according to my fiance) and fries were well seasoned. I’m sure we will be back when he craves the burger again! Candy bar for V day was a cute touch.
