Barrel & Ashes
Guests can enjoy chef driven traditional American BBQ at Barrel & Ashes seven days a week. The restaurant’s bar program includes a tap driven program with specialty cocktails, cold brew, teas and an eclectic list of local beers, all on tap. The restaurant occupies the former Spark Woodfire Grill space and has been stripped back to its original 1940’s structure and creatively designed to bring family style southern hospitality to Studio City.
What Insiders Are Saying
The great, lively BBQ joint that the Valley desperately needed.
Too greasy for me, ok
wonder experience! the staff was accommodating and friendly
Great food. Service was awesome.
When you want some "down home" cooking, made just right and authentically, this is the place to go. You don't need to completely throw out your diet either, but if it has to go, it has to go! Love the food, service was excellent, enjoyed it immensely!
Great BBQ. Great whiskies. Great service.
Like the menu, love the drinks. Great neighborhood place. Wish there were specials - more choices than only 1 type of rib. It’s always solid but more menu choices would be great
Everything was really good. All of recommended foods from our server, Clay were just awesome! My favorite was Kale Ceasar Salad and my hubby just loved Pie Hoe!!!! You must try these two combination.
Entire staff outstanding as usual
We made a reservation but still waited 15 to 20 mins to be seated. it's not that big of a deal but I don't see the point of making a reservation if you can simply walk in and get seated in the same amount of time. Overall the food was great, cornbread was a dream and brisket was tender and juicy. Next time I might just order to go.
Barrel & Ashes is a great restaurant but I must note that it has adopted a billing practice that can most charitably be described as sneaky –– and less charitably as unethical. There is a 3 percent "LA Health" (or some such) tax added to your bill without explanation, forcing the customer to raise the topic with the server. This is, of course, awkward. It turns out the tax is for the health care costs of Barrel & Ashes employees. If the owners of Barrel & Ashes want to pass their health care costs on to their customers, they should be forthright about it, not conceal the cost in a vaguely named 3 percent tax. Our server pointed out that we were not the first people to ask about it and also that the menu *did* include a sentence about the 3 percent tax –– in tiny print, where very few people will see it.
Great food! PRICEY! More than it should be but it is what it is! The price of ONE hot link should be for at least 2 for example. The brisket is crazy expensive but it IS good...just not THAT good! So I come here less often as they could at least incorporate a happy hour or special. The bar is outstanding! Though tiny.
Everything was simple and tasty.
The service was efficient and friendly.
For our purposes that particular night it exactly hit the spot.
We always enjoy this restaurant. it is in our opinion the best barbecue place in LA. Authentic, delicious, creative, clean and yummy!
Our server was so cool with us having a leisurely dinner- we had a lot to celebrate and talk about! Food was excellent and plentiful. We love coming here.
Food was delicious and can’t wait to go again.
Fantastic food, nice staff, great space, perfect to watch a game or just hang out. And did I mention FANTASTIC food? Love this place.
Always good food and drinks.
The food was just not as great as we were hoping it’d be. We will come back for the frito and apple pie though.
Noise level great at time of reservation. (6:30 pm). Though by 7:00 pm Place was crowded (except for outside tables) so noise level high. Did not order dessert but since it was a birthday occurrence, server brought over a dessert with candle. PS: size of kale Caesar salad was humongous
The best baby back ribs ever. Collard greens and Brussels sprouts were excellent. High quality ingredients and house made sauces make for a more healthy BBQ experience.
Great food, good value, service could improve a bit...
Jillian was outstanding
Ribs - Excellent flavor, some parts were dry and excessively chewy. I would order again.
Wedge Salad - While the dressing can be improved upon, overall it was executed nicely.
Wings as a side were OK, but overpriced. would not order again.
Brussel Sprouts were OK, nothing special, would not order again.
Chicken Sandwich, one person liked it, two people didn't like any of it. Would not order.
Another side that was orange in color, no one liked.
Bread Pudding. Amazing Order it.
It was the first time any of us had been to the restaurant and we would all return for the ribs, wedge salad, bread pudding and to try a few other things we have not tried yet.
Everyone is so nice, food is delicious and it’s such a pleasant experience. Can’t wait to go back.
As soon as you walk in and smell the wood smoke, you know you're in for some good BBQ. The challenge is narrowing down your choices for the meal. The Brisket is a MUST, the pork ribs are great, tri-tip cooked perfectly and pulled pork is tender. The options for sides are broad, but I only ever get the Mac & Cheese and Slaw. Can't speak to the other items. The place can get crowded and reservations are highly recommended -- and plan on valet parking. The drink menu is a mixed bag, with many of the signature drinks not available on this night. The dining room is small and seating is a bit limited. The bar is smaller too, so planning on getting a seat there and getting food is tough.
BEST LUNCH I HAVE EVER HAD!!! #PAPPYVANWINKLE EVERYTHING TASTED PERFECTLY!
The waitress put the plate of brisket on the table and said not to touch plate because it was very hot. The plate was cold and so was the brisket. She told us she never actually touched the plate. We sent it back. They replaced it with warm brisket. The tadte was terrible. The only thing we liked were the brussel sprouts and the beets. We will not be giving this restaurant another try.
The restaurant is small overall, but you could say it was cozy. I had a group of 8 people and we made reservations beforehand. They accommodated us just fine, and the service was prompt. The food was amazing! Very tender meat and tangy BBQ. The Hoecake was INCREDIBLE!
Here is the issue, we made a 7pm reservation, requested by the window, showed up , the hostess had no table reserved for us, yet had the reservation, which they called earlier to confirm, she had green hair, specifically want to call her out, she was rude and nasty as well as dismissive, finally someone came over and gave us a table. Why they didn't reserve it or be more helpful or apologetic was beyond me. Because, the food is really good. staff nice. Hostess, not nice . Being that is the first person you meet, not a good start to your dining experience and no one apologized. So, why bother using Open table and making a reservation again for this place. They ignore it.
The case if the missing food--
If the incident had just been this visit, I might have overlooked it. It was the second time...
Ordered some food to go with the cocktails. 30 minutes passed. No starter, plus a waiter that took pains to ignore us. So I did something I've never done before--I went into the kitchen to find him and tell him to cancel the starter- to which he replied he never "put it in". 40 minutes has passed and we finally get the starter ( it couldn't have taken more than 2 minutes to make it) ( we got it because he took it from another table's order). The food came 2 minutes later...
It was AWESOME been following them on Instagram and was not disappointed
Very good meal and very good service.
We went for dinner to celebrate my husbands birthday before going to the CBS Center Studio to watch a taping of Last Man Standing. Our experience was amazing. Good food, Great service.
Collard greens, brussels sprouts and pulled pork sandwich outstanding! Fish sandwich not so much. Definitely quality bbq
Awesome food & service! Always a pleasure to come to this spot!
Good cocktails. Good basic bbq food, delicious. We all enjoyed the food, even our kids. The only disappointment was the ribs. They seemed tough over cooked, definitely not juicy. I’m sure it varies depending on cook that day. I would definitely go back!
One of the best barbecues in LA
This is one of our go to places, the brisket is to die for. Usually the service is great super attentive etc. but this time it was a bit off, but we'll still go back! It's a noisy place but very lively and everyone is having a great time. We also love their special cocktails and love to sit at the counter and watch what's going on in the kitchen. Still one of our favorites!
Everything was perfect for our small gathering. We will happily return as soon as possible!
