Exceptional presentation of absolutely delicious food. There was a tasting menu which looked fantastic, but too much for us that evening. I would come back for it on a special occasion. We did two separate appetizers: mussels and yellow tail. Perfectly balanced tastes in both. On to lamb and sturgeon. Again, well proportioned size and taste wise. Highly recommend the bread serving. Yes an extra $2 but bread you want to take home it is that good. Finished off with two scoops of ice cream; one called Yuzi which I can’t describe but you must try.
My wife and I hadn't been to Blackbird for nearly eight years. It was great back then. It is FAR better now. All courses were superb and the service was excellent. It is no mystery why they are a favorite of James Beard and Michilen.
Always different and great!!
For the foodie in you this was an incredible dinner.
My 2nd time going. Food was delicious, although for the price, I don't know how often I would choose to go here. Our server was wonderful and gave great recommendations.
We went for lunch. If you choose the fixe price menu, it is a good way to try their menu. I loved the food and the ambiance. The wine choices are great. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed all the meal's presentations and flavors. I will definitely be coming back.
Great service and atmosphere. Tasting menu is too expensive! I’d love to try it out but it’s outrageously expensive.
The food was outstanding and service was just as good! Cocktails were yummy (fun names) and we were treated with an amuse bouche. The owner was lovely. I loved the mussels, and I had the lamb as a main course. I highly recommend the lamb!! Great date spot too:)
Still fantastic after all these years. Dinner is not the value that lunch provides but consistently high quality food and interesting options. We will continue to come back regularly.
I wanted to like this place, but the menu was limited and outdated. It didn’t live to the hype.
I had very important biz meeting, and all my VIPs were satisfied with food and kindness of their staffs.
The food was amazing...this is my new favorite restaurant!
Food was extraordinary. The mains of black cod and duck are to die for.
The deserts are simply superb.
The choice of wine Riesling Poets Leap went very well.
We arrived shortly before our reservation time of 8pm. We were greeted and escorted to two open seats at the bar. Bartenders were very friendly and professional. Enjoyed the “Trust Us” beverage which was a mojito made with sherry. Host cane to let us know our table was ready. Service was timely. My only complaint was that I had a hard time hearing our server because it was loud in there. This didn’t bother me much because everyone was truly enjoying themselves and we were excited to try some dishes. Everyone was very polite and smiling. We had the mussels, duck, pork belly and fantastic desserts and coffee. The food was fresh and well balanced. Next time we will try the tasting menu. Our neighboring table seemed to enjoy it! Overall wonderful experience. Flavors were amazing. So good!
It was delicious! Great service, knowledgeable servers
This was my 3rd visit to Blackbird over the last 8 or so years, and I've never been disappointed. This visit I had the tasting menu ($145) and opted to forego a cocktail from an interesting list and get the wine pairing ($75) instead. Everything was 5-star, except I gave 3 stars for 'value.' A bill of $309. for one person is high, and I don't know quite how to put a value on the experience, which was extraordinary in every way. I'm not complaining about the cost, I just don't know how to assess it. Everything - the food (every mouthful exquisite), ambience (energetic rather than romantic), wine pairing and explanation of same - was exceptional, and I left extremely satisfied. It is a once- or twice- or maybe three-times-in-a-lifetime experience, but, for my money, worth it. An experience you'll never forget. Highly recommended!
We were so pleasantly surprised at the overall wonderful quality and thoughtfulness that was apparent at this restaurant. Creative excellent food, friendly and adequate number of staff for an excellent experience. Much better than Everest
Wine pairing is overpriced
Going again because we had a great time. Our waitress/bar keep was excellent.
The food is always outstanding. The level of detail in the service is second to none.
When investigating tasting menus around Chicago, I had read that it was best to forego the tasting menu at Blackbird and go for the prix fixe 3-course lunch. We did and it was amazing - the food, wine and ambiance was all 5-star. It's a must go!
The highest level of fine cuisine, with outstanding service that is highly informed, engaging, warm, and welcoming. I requested a vegetarian tasting 48 hours in advance, and my meal was creative and delicious. I am especially delighted that there is a non-alcoholic cocktail menu of five different drinks. I have had them all, and they are all excellent, tasty and nuanced, and more than what you would throw together at home. You can come in elegant attire or business casual, and feel comfortable either way. You feel both celebratory and at ease, all at once.
Best tasting menu experience I have had since Charlie Trotter’s in 1989. Exquisite sequence with attention to flavor following flavor and texture balancing against the previous course. To get perfectly al dente pasta mid stream was genius. I would fly to Chicago just for this meal ...
Amazing experience top to bottom.
If you wanna splurge get the tasting menu with wine. The sommelier we had was amazing described everything so well you get more excited about eating
Amazing experience and food. Great Staff, we had The best Time.
We had an incredible dinner here to celebrate our anniversary. First off, I would like to thank the staff for accommodating a late reservation change and squeezing us in at the regular dining seating. From the moment we arrived, the entire staff was extremely welcoming and attentive. The bartender was very friendly and we enjoyed talking about whiskeys and cognacs with him. He hooked us up with a little taste of the Pierre Fernand Renegade series spirit to tickle the tastebuds.
Once seated, I never had to pour my own water or wine. Every single staff member who passed by would refill our glasses if they saw an almost empty glass. We started off with the endive salad, a Blackbird classic. It was delightful! I could really just have two orders of that and call it good. The amuse bouche did just that! It was a delicious tempura squash blossom with a garlic aioli. For a main course, I had the top sirloin with beef tongue that melted in my mouth. It was perfectly cooked and tender. My wife had the pork belly, which for pork belly was a very generous portion and not full of fat. It was perfectly smoky and wonderfully paired with trout roe and black garlic. For dessert we had the lemon Paris-Brest, Baked Alaska, and White Russian ice cream. My favorite was the ice cream by far! The Baked Alaska was a great balance with the sweet char of the meringue, citrusy tang of the grapefruit, and nuttiness of the almond crust.
All around we thoroughly enjoyed our three hour dining experience. Every staff member was awesome. We will certainly be back!
Amazing experience. From the reservation conformation, to reception when we arrive to our departure. Food was the best I’ve had in Chicago. Lastly, the hospitality was genuine and heartfelt.
We had a great evening. Wonder food, great looking decor, very good service
We had an impromptu date night and decided to go with tasting menu to make decision making a breeze. We got the pairing too which made the whole experience fantastic!
Great knowledge about the wine/ cocktails /food.
Excellent place for a special dinner. Food and service were outstanding. My only issue was the closeness of the tables. The place is small, but they could allow a little more room in between the tables.
Eating solo can be a frustrating experience where you feel rushed and ackward. But at Blackbird they let you be and serve you at the same pace as other guests. And given the great food, that IS what you want the most, a slow enjoyment of all the artistry that is paraded plate after bowl after papillote in front of you
My best friend and I decided to come here after someone recommended it to me, and boy am I glad we came! Absolutely everything about this visit was amazing. We can't wait to be back!
So good. Great value for lunch prix fixe
This was an outstanding meal. We dined with a cousin from San Francisco, and she couldn't stop raving about the food.
A Michelin starred lunch for under $100! AMAZING! Food, service both impeccable. We even added a 3rd to our party an hour before our reservation and they were very accommodating. As heard at our table while having coffee.... "best meal I have ever had in Chicago".
Wonderful food, amazing service, and the place was really great. Deserving of all the awrds it has gotten
