We had a wonderful time at the Braddon Merchant. The food was exceptional and service was perfect.
Had an enjoyable meal - compliments to the chef and great customer service by Lachlan who is also very knowledgeable about wines that he recommended. Definitely will dine there again.
Great service. Great ambience. Lovely wine list. Great kids menu. Mains a little off. Duck tough. Steak a little tasteless.
The gluten-free and vegetarian options were amazing. Overall the food was presented creatively and tasted incredible. The service was exceptional and the ambience was nice. Table conversation was easy due to the low noise levels.
Lovely! Beautiful location, food was delicious and service was great
The photos give the impression that the hotel's restaurant, Braddon Merchant, is classy, but it is more like a good quality cafe in terms of decor and atmosphere. The food was nice and moderately creative, but with limited options, and small-ish servings. There were relatively few wines available by the glass. Staff were friendly. We would not go back.
We went to Braddon Merchant on a quiet Tuesday evening. Booking online it seemed as though it was very busy. when I changed the booking from 4 to 5 it wouldn't allow me to have the same timeslot, but when in the actual restaurant there were many tables free all evening, strange. Another aspect of the booking online system was the insistence on having your credit card details. I gave mine but wasn't comfortable about it. It also said that if our numbers dropped within 24hrs notification we would be charged. This is fairly off-putting.
The restaurant experience itself was lovely. Staff were generally very attentive and friendly. The wine list was enormous and of high quality. Beer varieties included local brews. The menu was interesting and had a variety of options. You had to choose 2, 3 or more courses at set prices. It was good value. Everyone on our table liked their food, especially the Octopus entree. One person commented that their duck main course was a little too rare. My Barramundi was cooked to perfection. The dessert menu had many delicious options including seasonal quince and honeycomb icecream, delicious.
At about 8:45 two guests of the Midnight Hotel arrived. These two 'gentlemen' were obviously drunk, happy but very, very loud. This didn't make a pleasant impression and staff didn't really (couldn't?) do anything about them? This was disappointing.
The ambiance and decor of the restaurant was relaxing, modern and spacious.
The table chairs were comfortable if you were a larger person but quite uncomfortable if you were not. This was a distraction throughout the evening.
Overall I would still return and enjoy another evening there with friends.
Please work on the small difficulties.
coffee was hot and welcoming, delicious food and decent noise levels, so we could have a good conversation. Keep it up.
Could not fault this place. The chefs cooked food to perfection. Staff were also very professional.
Great service, fantastic staff who were very knowledgeable, friendly, and welcoming and the food was incredible. Compliments to the chef!
Wait staff were informed and attentive. Food was delicious, we had entree & mains, perfectly cooked.
Location loae to our accommodation.
Always enjoy dining at Braddon Merchant. Highly recommended.
The food, wines and service were all excellent. The only downside is the noise level; it is difficult to have a conversation.
The combination of Italian wine and the menu created from the chef for that specific occasion was just PERFECT!!!!
Beautifully prepared food. I ate the best duck I’ve ever had.
Very overpriced for what you actually get. The gluten free menu is terrible and the noise level was horrible despite the place not bring close to capacity.
So glad we booked the Braddon Merchant. From arriving to settling the bill the service was impeccable. Lachlan our waiter was exceptional. The food was also delicious. Our party of 5 were all impressed - we will be returning.
Hi Bryan, thank you for your lovely feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon :)
A surprise to fine this since it is a little hidden away. the food was excellent with very delicate taste and textures. The wine list is also extensive. Also, the service was excellent. I'd definitely go again. Many thanks!
Amazing service. The pork, winter veggies side and mushroom risotto was delicious.
The food was delicious and the service outstanding.
One of my favourite Canberra restaurants. Exciting food. Amazing wine list. And really knowledgeable staff. Highly recommended.
It was brilliant, the food was next level, different and cooked to perfection, packed with flavour. The service was the best service we have received in Canberra.
This is a lovely restaurant and the food generally was excellent except we thought the slow cooked octopus was tough (albeit tasty). The wine list is a bit challenging if you only want a glass of something - very little to choose from by the glass BUT the wine waiter was really terrific and opened a bottle which was not being offered by the glass and provided my husband and I each with a glass. We were most impressed with this flexibility.
A very nice night all round.
We all enjoyed our meal and really appreciated the care and thought that went into catering for a guest with complicated dietary requirements. Staff went the extra mile to be welcoming and accommodating.
Food is really fantastic, great small menu of interesting flavours, amazing quality. Not very busy which surprised me, considering how great the food was. Perhaps because the restaurant is almost hidden under Midnight Hotel
This place takes itself way too seriously for how good the food actually was. Avoid the degustation menu.
The perfect eating experience. The decor and atmosphere was excellent Service and food was exceptional. Highly recommended.
The service was slow. It took a while for a waiter to take our mains order, then we had to wait for a drinks waiter. We ordered a bottle of champagne and had to request top ups. Staff avoided eye contact when additional drinks were required and only certain wait staff would fulfill our drink request. Considering I talked the service and menu up to my friends It was an extremely disappointing experience.
We were primarily served by a lovely gentleman Sam. He is very good at what he does. Engaging. Friendly. Kind. Let’s just say.. If banter was like the “force” in Star Wars.. The Banter is strong in this one. We had a fantastic time, the food was great... The wine couplings were on point. We really enjoyed dining at Braddon Merchant and will recommend to our network.
Thanks, Luke and Kimberley.
A fabulous dinner, outstanding food and a massive, albeit expensive, wine list. And the service by the staff was brilliant, they know their stuff, not intrusive but always attentive. Thoroughly recommended.
Too expensive for the small serve. Menu was basic, easy to prepare food, double the price to other restaurants. Clearly aimed at high end market, but falls short.
As visiting Canberra and staying at Midnight Apartments we went for an impromptu late dinner and had a lovely 2 course dinner with a great wine list to choose from as well
You don’t need a coravin for a $30 retail wine from Mallaluka. The wine pairing was okay, but look, it definitely wasn’t a top shelf selection. Nor were the pairings overly creative. Complacent at best there to be honest. The dishes were share plates but felt like single servings split in two, which for $79 a head for five courses means each dish was $32 each, which, frankly is daylight robbery, particular for 3 tiny slivers of octopus in some sauce. The dishes weren’t mind blowing by any means, and with the cost of the tasting, the flavours were simplistic and one dimensional, which for a meal dedicated to taste (a “tasting”) is disappointing and a massive let down. The prices need to be reduced as the caliber of food is low, I would recommend all other restaurants in the fabulous Braddon area. Or Courgette if you want a meal of the same price but a completely different caliber and standard. The restaurant is quiet for a reason unfortunately. Also the chairs are horrendously uncomfortable.
Food was excellent and definitely worthwhile going. Service was very good, although a little slow at times as they were fully booked and had more tables than usual. Very noisy environment.
We loved your restaurant. You know the wines, know the food, and the place is really good.
Food, drink and staff were excellent, but the food to ages to come! Luckily they warned us of the wait and we weren’t in a hurry.
The service was quite low quality. We waited for a long time to order drinks and then ages before they arrived to order food. The food then took a really long time and was so minimal. The presentation of the food was average, could have made it at home. Considering how expensive the food was there was not a lot to show for it. Midnight is a beautiful looking hotel but the Braddon Merchant for breakfast brings down the quality of it.
In general the service was really slow, the food was very expensive so very bad value. The coffee was good but was cold by the time that it arrived.
Our dinner with friends here was lovely, will definitely be back!
Enjoyable dinner in a well presented restaurant with lovely service and drinks. We had the chef’s selected 5 course shared tasting menu. It was all amazing! Wonderful presentation and incredible flavours, textures and produce. Whilst I loved all of it, my favourite was the dessert, a simple chocolate tart packed with flavour. Will be sure to visit again on our next trip.
