Love the food here always amazing and
Food was a bit inconsistent and lacking flavour. The cheese bread was good, but pasta was disappointing with no sauce on the special, and ravioli unevenly cooked with pieces still thick/chewy in areas.
The food was really great, couldn’t fault it. The dining area was full and busy, but no staff coming to tables. Food took a very long time (over an hour) to come out. No one clearing tables after people were finishing.
Amazing food. One of my favourite Italian restaurants in Canberra! The chicken chilli jam meatballs are recommended.
I have always liked your restaurant
But the meal we had on Mothers day was terrible
The food was cold and average at best
The service was not good
& we waited for a long time to even get water at the filthy table we were sat at, let alone get our main dishes
A very expensive bad night out
A real shame as I cant see us coming back
Really nice place. Only down sideways the cost of the wine.
Would certainly go again!
Very generous servings. Very yummy food. Lovely staff.
Absolutely disgusting, inedible. I think one of the restaurants I've ever been to.Cant believe their doors are still open, Yuk!!!
Sadly our experience was not a great one. Firstly, my chosen dish - the marinara had all sold out by 7pm which was disappointing. So I opted for the duck ravioli, while my partner ordered the veal.
Although they tasted good, both dishes were extremely heavy. We both had a restless night and I had to go and buy a packet of quick-eze!
The following day, we both had stomach aches too.
Always my go to for a good dinner. The servings are very generous and the taste is excellent. The prices, without doubt, represent the best value I have ever experienced in a restaurant. Highly recommended, I'll be going again soon.
The food and choice was as always. The servings were ample and delicious. However the music was too loud and we had to ask to have it turned down.
Best service and food ! Was my bday and the lovely waiter sang so enthusiastically and made it all the more special !
One of my fave restaurants :)
Felt like I was having a dine in “take away” food, heated in the microwave and serve on a pretty plate... a real disappointment. ☹️
nice food, pricey however for the serving size, very limited vegan options, chairs & set out uncomfortable.
Unfortunately on this occasion, the food did not hit the mark. Have been here before with great food experiences, but this time most of the dishes failed unfortunately:
Crab loaded fries were stodgy
Arancini: the rice was far too over cooked made the texture clag like. Very little flavour profile for “pickled citrus” or “Parmesan”
Duck Ravioli: stodgy parcels with meat and sauce that were both too sweet. Couldn’t actually taste anything but the sugar.
Prawn / squid ink risotto: granted they ran out of squid ink and scallops (I think?). So we were offered a seafood risotto with a white wine base. But it just didn’t work - No flavour profile, insufficient seasoning, the rice was undercooked/chalky. Almost tasted like marinara sauce was mixed in as an afterthought.
Aglio e Olio: no chilli in the dish at all. The smoked peas had no Smokey flavour and ended up just being very bland.
Unfortunately the service was slow - we waited more than 45 minutes for food, which we weren’t too fussed about. But to then be served poor food, was very disappointing. The couple next to us also left with most of their dishes untouched.
I think the spring rolls were the only thing we finished.
I usually love Chez Frederic and had had a lovely meal there only 3 weeks prior. However, this visit was extremely disappointing. The pasta servings were extremely small when they're usually very generous and the sides were terrible; duck fat potatoes were cold, soggy and tasted like they'd been cooked much earlier and had been reheated, the veg were supermarket packed stir fry mix which were also cold. My lasagna, as did the other meals, all needed extra seasoning as they were quite bland. Fortunately, the tiramisu was delicious although the chocolate mousse was thick and heavy with the consistency of cake... have you changed chefs? Not sure if you've just had a bad night but also not sure if I'll return.
Pasta was simple and tasty, but a little undercooked for my liking. Ordered the jalapeño bread, which I’ve had before a was amazing, but this time, very disappointing. It’s like they forgot to toast it, the butter was still firm and not melted on top. Bread was average. Tried the crab bisque potato’s, they were tasty but super salty, a little too overpowering. Despite these faults, the food was still enjoyable. It’s the service that really let them down this time...
The disappointment started with the water, which we had to order 3 times before receiving. And once empty, had to get the attention from wait staff to get more, rather than then attending to it. Mains were ordered and arrived in decent time, but one we’d finished eating the dirty and cold plates remained on our table for over 1 hr, before a waitor eventually took them away! And even then, an hr after overs finished mains, we were jot offered the desert menu or offered any further drinks (at any point from dinner until we left 1.5hrs later). This was astounding to me!! An easy way for the restaurant to make more menu and leave with happy diners. My friend was keen for desert, and another glass, but we were never asked and so eventually gave up and paid our bill and left. The place had only one other table at that time, so they could not claim a busy time, perhaps just inattentive, tired or untrained wait staff?! We went elsewhere for drinks and desert.
The restaurant wasn’t super busy, and for such a small place they had three wait staff on. Should be ample.. but perhaps just the wrong ones, unfortunately. Hope they can work on this for future diners!
I’ll be getting take away next time for sure :)
Horrible service! We were told that they did not receive any booking alert from the system, despite booking in advance. However, there was a free table at the bar.
We were seated there for 20 minutes without water. The wait staff were chatting and did not look towards our direction at all.
In the end, we walked out.
I would go elsewhere if I were you. Plenty of really good restaurants in the area. This one fell short.
I loved the relaxed feel of the place. The service was exceptional and the food was amazing. We particularly liked the chilli jam meatballs. We will be back to try the other dishes
Very poor service. Booked in advance and still had to wait 30 minutes for a table after we arrived. Service staff forgot our drink orders and had to remind them 3 times. Half the options on the menu were sold out as well.
Appalling service, food was worse than service. Would recommend to no one.
Amazing as usual! The food and the staff are awesome!
Friendly, informal but very nice food and flexibility to accommodate customer preference. Highly recommended.
Food was very good. Noisy sitting outside on footpath and pedestrians very close to the table. Had to have dessert in a takeaway container as all that were I n glass had been sold. I would have emptied the mousse into a suitable dish if I was the wait person. Dessert was brought to the table and I had to ask the waitress to take away our main meal plates that had been sitting there for about an hour as she was about to leave them there. Online booking was easy and we received a call prior asking if we would be ok to sit outside.
Couldn’t really comment on the food. We waited for 35 minutes.. basically forgotten about. Tried to get the attention of the waitress.. ended up leaving and going to the dumpling house as the service was quicker
We wanted to order everything on the menu! What we did order & could eat was absolutely amazing! Wish we lived in Canberra now but will definitely recommend it to all our friends. Thank you for a wonderful meal despite two rascals wreaking havoc :)
Arrived for a Sunday lunch booking. Loved how the restaurant was decorated. We were greeted and were advised many of the menu items were sold out, luckily they weren’t the items our booking was after, otherwise they would have been pretty disappointed. We ordered entrees and mains and a kids meal.
Kids meals was great value and delicious, my child really enjoyed.
Entrees were amazing, the garlic bread was perfect and the aranchini balls were some of the best I’ve tried.
We ordered x2 gnocchi dishes for mains, the gnocchi itself were soft fluffy pillows, but the sauces were pretty average.
We would come again for the entrees and to try different mains.
When I saw the special BRAISED LAMB & GOATS CHEESE W/ BURNT BUTTER SAUCE & A BRIOCHE ROSEMARY CRUMBLE on the website I knew we had to eat here. It was divine. We both had ravioli and thoroughly enjoyed the whole dining experience.
Great dinner, the specials were fantastic and the pasta always a favourite.
Love it every time! Have recommended to so many people because it has always been amazing - one of our favourite restaurants in Canberra!!
Delicious food definitely visit again
Great staff, customer service and overall ambience amazing. Food low average. Lamb was literally tasteless (I am not a picky eater so I bet a real foodie wouod be totally disappointed). No salt. Pasta was ultra al Demet. Again no spices or salt. Arancini ok. Fries were good (well I could have gone to a cheaper burger place for that).
The place is a takeaway pretending to be a “restaurant”. Food, as one can expect from an Italian cuisine place with a French name - not good.
Delicious, good service and great value. Would definitely come back.
Food was excellent. Service was poor. We waited more than 20 minutes for water or for our order to be taken, 40 minutes for our drinks to come and over an hour for food. Many of the menu options eeee unavailable including no gluten free pasta. The couple next to us left without any of their food after such a long wait.
The food is always phenomenal and the service is good as well
Food is fantastic. Delicious and great portion size. However, service was very poor. Booked a table - did not have table readily available. Asked for our wine 3 times. Came out after 4th time requesting for it. Food took well over an hour to come out. Restaurant seemed under staffed.
Took 20 minutes before we could order any drinks or food. Food took another 40+ minutes to arrive. Quality of food was average. When we went to pay, it took another 20 minutes to get someone to process the payment. There were many disgruntled customers.
The restaurant was not busy at all
We are waiting around 1:20min for our dishes... and no one come to give us any information why so long time...we left the restaurant without eat
Lovely well prepared and presented delicious food
