What a wonderful dinner we had on Mother’s Day. We had the crab salad appetizer and the escargot, both of which were delicious. For our main course we had the duck breast and the scallops and risotto, again amazing flavors. We shared a crème brûlée for dessert and we’re not disappointed. Our experience was lovely and delicious and we will go back again.

Four of us were there to celebrate my birthday. We all chose the three course dinner and we each had a different main course: salmon, rack of lamb, duck leg confit, and filet mignon. Each of them was well prepared, seasoned and delicious. The rest of the meal was equally delicious. Service was attentive and we were able to enjoy a very leisurely meal. The only negative was parking. Although they have a small parking lot, it was full and street parking was difficult. Some of our party was late because of it, but staff was gracious and there was no problem. Highly recommend Chou Chou.

3 courses for $60 is a good deal, starter, I had French onion soup which was good. Then I had the duck leg confit wellington which I thought was good but just a bit too much sweet for my taste in the dish but my husband's filet mignon was good! Lastly we both had tiramisu.. Just okay. I'd come back though for the hospitality and atmosphere of the restaurant. I might order differently next time now that I know more but still a very nice place and much better price for good French food compared to a much more expensive place we've been to. We would choose here again.

Loved our time there. The food was amazing. The price was wonderful. I felt the quality was outstanding and the price was unbelievable. $60 for starters, entree and dessert. We will certainly be returning. My mother had a fantastic birthday celebration. Thank you for the staff and chef/owner.

We came to this restaurant after reading the menu in the San Francisco Restaurant week. We put down on our reservation that we were celebrating a birthday. When we arrived there was no mention or birthday wish. The restaurant had a nice look and an open feel to it. Very nice, especially for San Francisco. After we were seated, we looked at the menu provided and noticed that the bone marrow was left off of the set dinner menu for SF restaurant week. We asked the host/waiter about it and he said it was never a part of the set menu. Once we showed him the menu on his own website he said it must have been a mistake and they were not offering this item on the set menu. I tried to order the mushroom soufflé, which was something I really wanted to try, but our host/waiter said that this entree was not available because it was a busy night and they didn’t make the batter. We ordered and the food was quite good. The New York steak was slightly overdone for medium rare but still flavorful, the duck leg Wellington was original and tasty. The rack of lamb was over cooked, but still tasty and tender. The short ribs were also very flavorful. The service was mediocre and we got a bad vibe from our host/waiter. He wasn’t rude, but he was not friendly and kind of impatient and arrogant. He kind of put a damper on our evening. Worth trying for the food, but service was not what you would expect for a restaurant like this. PS The entire night, the birthday was never even mentioned.

If not for the wording on the front door, you would not guess you are walking into a French restaurant. The place has completely changed inside and no longer has the charm that made it a great place to eat. The service was less than ideal. They did not seem to have enough staff and that impacted their ability to pay attention to the tables. We brought our own bottle of wine and the wait person appeared to have no clue how to open it. The food was VERY good, however. My advice would be to try takeout.

Requested outdoor seating but was seated inside. Oh well. Food was good as usual. Ordered the soufflé which was very filling. My son ordered the duck leg Wellington which he said would have been better without the puff pastry.

Chou Chou was truly French until several ownership changes resulted in what we have today. Ambiance is important to me in a French restaurant part of which consists of speaking French to the staff. NO ONE in this place speaks French and cannot even take your order if you select from the french menu. The food is seriously wanting at least as far as french fare goes. Last time my wife and I dined there we had an appetizer and a main plate no dessert, and two glasses of wine. That set us back $150. If you are looking for a faux french restaurant run by latinos this is definitely your spot, assuming you can afford it.

We've there now 3 times since the new ownership and chef took over, and it is wonderful! The food is absolutely delicious...well-prepared take on classic dishes, as well as old favorites (like the onion soup). A small but well chosen and priced wine list is a great match to the cuisine. You won't be disappointed!

The service was horrible! The waiter served me cold food and had a very nasty attitude. It felt like we didn't belong being African American, it felt like we took the wrong turn. They took forever to take our order, the food looked amazing but tasted awful, I didn't eat my food and they still charged me for it. The clam chowder was excellent!

I had a burger (a nod to American tastes) with brie (a nod to French tastes!) Cooked to perfection. Excellent ahi tuna salad. My wife's mussels showed signs of cooking too fast. The sauce was over-reduced & salty, and 7 shells did not open. Lower heat for longer probably would coax those little guys open and conserve the broth. ChouChou has completely changed atmosphere from when we started going in the early 2000s. I found it too brightly lit amid stark off-white walls. At about 40% capacity, it was blessedly quiet.

Was looking forward to dining at Chou Chou. It has been one of my favorite restaurants to go to. Tonight was a complete disappointment. The host that checked us in was unpleasant. He seated us down and took roughly 15 minutes to come and check in to take our order. He didn’t bother explaining the specials of the day which is okay but a nice welcoming would have been appreciated. He didn’t even check once on us while we were eating, but was checking in on the other tables of bigger groups. My partners food was good but mine was terrible. I ordered the salmon dish and my salmon was cold and over cooked. It was just drenched with the lemon caper sauce. The risotto was also just drenched with sauce . There was nothing special about the broccolini. It was just hiding under a pool of onions. The dish definitely lacked flavor and presentation. The only good thing I had was the French onion soup. Was really looking forward to a nice dinner before heading to the ballet but did not get that tonight. Not sure if I will return.

Went to Chou Chou for anniversary dinner. Food was delicious with generous servings, especially for a French restaurant. I had grilled trout and my husband had beef bourgnion. We sat in the outdoor area because the ambiance was nicer with heat lamps and candles. The indoor dining area was a bit sterile and brightly lit. Not too many people, a plus for us. Not sure it’s the place for a really special occasion when you want to dress up, but it’s a wonderful little neighborhood restaurant, where you can walk in, get a table and enjoy good food!

Chou Chou was AMAZING! As soon as you walk in, the place looks great with their all white decor. Super stylish. The food and service was also great. Chef Mina's food was excellent! The escargot was very buttery and tasty. The filet was cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes!! Omgness. I could've eaten that by itself as an entrée. It was SO good!! And the creme brulee was a great way to end the meal. Everything we order was just so flavorful and a joy to eat. We ate everything on the plate. One of the best and memorable meals I've had in a while. We didn't have to wait for our food. Nothing bad or negative can be said from our dinner. I definitely recommend this place. And I will definitely will come back again. Thank you Chef Mina and Chou Chou for a great dinner!! Keep up the amazing food and service! ❤🙏😁
