We booked at Clowance specifically to take advantage of their “Seniors’ Lunch” with a couple of friends - we are owners/members and have been seeing it advertised and finally tried it. It’s a two course menu for £15 serving a main (7 options) and a dessert (3 options). Three of us had the Ham, egg and chips with the other having the Scampi and chips. Followed by two lots of Mixed berry Bread & Butter pudding, one of Summer berry Trifle and one of Moomaid Icecream. Service was friendly and attentive, and the food (portions sized for seniors) nicely cooked, presented and tasty. A more comprehensive lunch menu is available as well as the full range of their wines and drinks. Will definitely be going back for this again. Thank you to the team.

The evening was overall okay, but unfortunately the experience didn’t quite match the prices being charged. While part of our table arrived later than expected, a party of eight clearly represents good custom, and at times the service felt more functional than welcoming. The initial greeting focused immediately on needing the table back after two hours, which was disappointing as I had specifically requested a table where we could remain for the quiz when booking. To their credit, this was resolved, but it did leave a poor first impression. Service throughout the evening felt slow and somewhat disorganised, and the front of house team appeared to lack clear direction and leadership. Staff often came across as abrupt rather than approachable, which affected the overall atmosphere. As diners, you don’t want to feel like an inconvenience, yet unfortunately that was very much how we were made to feel despite our efforts to be friendly and engage positively throughout the evening. I appreciate hospitality is a demanding industry and nobody is full of energy every minute of every shift, but customers shouldn’t feel that frustration reflected in staff attitudes or expressions. One particular interaction stood out when I asked if a meal could briefly be placed under the heat lamps for a few minutes — fully understanding this was outside the norm and entirely at our own risk. Unfortunately, the response felt unnecessarily irritated, which made the atmosphere uncomfortable. The quiz itself was for a great cause, although the format felt quite chaotic, particularly the “wheel of fortune” element. It may work better going back to basics with a more structured quiz and prize setup. It was also noticeable that once the quiz ended, there was almost a mass exodus of customers, despite the venue benefiting from both an on-site audience and local trade. Disappointed with the food. Ordered expensive burger and just came with fries. No veg or salad. Burger was small. Not worth it for the price. Was expecting better food options for the type of establishment it is

Sadly service was terrible for our party of 9 including 3 children. Table booked for 7.15. Mains not served until 9 (with 1 order being missed and 1 diner getting his food at 9.10). A table of a similar size that were seated at 7.45, had their order taken before ours and left the restaurant before our party as their food came quicker. I don’t think the team could cope with multiple large groups dining over the bank holiday weekend (we ate there on Good Friday). Magician was excellent (and the reason why we came back). Food was ok but not worth the price tag. Multiple issues with the service.

On arrival we had to wait a long while before even being seated. We were basically sat and ignored untill I asked if we actually had a table. We’d booked so didn’t expect this but was later told our booking hadn’t come through. We then waited 1 hr 20 for our food without any explanation or apology. My husband eventually asked what was happening as we noted most of the restaurant were waiting for food too. We were told someone had to leave the kitchen to help elsewhere?! We understand situations happen but it’s all about being informed and communication which didn’t happen. We felt ignored and unwelcome and wouldn’t return. Spoilt the last evening of our holiday. Food is very expensive where you’d expect a luxury experience and not worth the cost in our opinion
