Cook St. Helena
We had a delicious, relaxing dining experience at Cook St Helena. Arielle provided exceptional service. She made recommendations when asked and paced our meal so we could savor each course.
Small, informal eatery. The food was excellent. The waitress was very attentive and accomodating without being intrusive. Good sized portions. Had a nice glass of wine to go with our Braised Ribs. Overall, a very pleasant experience and good value.
Food and service were AMAZING!!
Just love this place! Great food and welcoming staff.
We like the non-tourist atmosphere
Always terrific, but sometimes even extra special. Not to miss!!
This place is fabulous. Small but special. The food is fabulous. We shared a calamari appetizer, Caesar salad and pasta with Bolognese sauce. The calamari was great; light, cooked perfectly, not overly breaded. The Caesar salad was good and plentiful. The pasta was silky and so, soo good. Beautiful sauce, homemade ricotta cheese on top...mmmmmmmm. Our server was an absolute joy from start to finish. She provided excellent service even though it was a busy night. We also had a munday for dessert...you'll want to leave room for that when you go!
Server on her phone for a while plus the carbonara lack some flavor.
The risotto and the eggplant Parm were delicious.
Festive time in wine land
Saw the reviews for Cooks and knew I had to visit. Had a wonderful meal, great ambiance and service as well. A must visit if you are in the Napa Valley area.
Incredible food! Great service! Nice ambiance!
I have been often. Once again, our service and meal were spectacular. Pasta was great; the appetizer sublime. I will return soon. Highly recommend.
Love the food. Eggplant Parmesan and short ribs are favorites. Don’t miss the flourless chocolate cake!
Every dish was outstanding Will definitely return
They gave my reservation away to someone else 30 minutes before the reserved time, and did not fix their mistake when I showed up. I had to go find a different restaurant to eat at last minute despite booking it a week advance. So unprofessional and rude. Staff probably gave it away to a friend or something because whoever took my table was definitely still seated by the time I got there and could have been removed
Best in the area, always eat here when in Napa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
great service and atmosphere but pasta entrees were disappointing.
The food and the service were absolutely wonderful!
Never a disappointment. The food is exceptional and the service wonderful.
We loved our lunch at Cook St. Helena and will definitely put this on our "A" list for our periodic trips to Napa. This food was as good as our meals at Auberge and Gatehouse, and there's no higher praise than that. The balance of flavoring and skillful creativity evinced by owner/chef Wilmoth were amazing. It was all the little touches: using pecorino rather than Parmesan in the prosciutto-pear-arugula salad; the lightest drizzle of balsamic to add spark to the too-mild heirlooms (the cool-ish summer left all the heirlooms on the bland side in 2018); the sliced pepperoncini in the all'arrabbiata sauce. Brilliant! And the service was cheerful, friendly, and expert. We're definitely returning on our next trip!
Salad was fresh. Tasty entrees, absolutely (Duck + Polenta delicious). Service tried, but fell short in helping me want to really embrace the place.
My husband and I ate here on a weekday night.
My first impression was not the greatest. I made the reservation over 2 months before our visit. With that in mind, I had hopes of a better seat that sitting at the bar. We didn't know that they were closing down the back area early due to a late large party.
Regardless, we had a great meal. Our server was very patient and explained all the entrees. We loved the minestrone and burrata for starters. Our entrees of cavatelli and risotto and flank steak were probably among our favorite meals in Napa. The mundae was delicious, too.
We will be back.
Food was great, was a bit loud but my date could hear me
We've had great experiences at Cook, but tonight we found it disappointing. Music was so loud we couldn't carry on a conversation without raising our voices. We don't go to a restaurant for the music, and this music was so loud that we couldn't focus on the flavor of the food - very distracting. Service was lackluster and slow - they seemed understaffed for the crowd, food arrived slowly, some parts of our order were forgotten, no one checked back after a course was served. Salad missed the mark, greens look tired. Calamari was good but not outstanding. With all that was missing or going on, we wanted to just finish and leave. Not an experience where we could relax and enjoy a special meal.
Music too loud
Awful. They lost our order and forgot to bring our mains. Owner was not apologetic. Would not recommend.
Fantastic lunch. Gnocchi are worthy of the best in the country. Everything else, including the service was excellent as well. It’s a regional must-go dining destination for sure, and we made a point to go while traveling from the east coast.
Poor service. Noisy. Cramped.
Very limited menu
Overpriced for quality
Food was Mediocre at best
It took quite a while for the server to bring us water say hello etc. The food was a disappointment. I will not go back here, wasn’t what we remembered from the last time we were here.
Amazing food very comfortable atmosphere we have been there 5 times over 5 years and it is consistently one of our Napa favorites
Cook is one of the gems of Napa Valley. Great food, intimate setting and really good and personal service.
When we first came to St Helena we were told Cook is where the locals go for Italian. 20 years later it still is true. Fresh local ingredients, great local wine list and good service. My pasta with chicken and pesto was the lightest pesto I have ever eaten (no post meal “food baby”). My wive had the cavatelli with sausage which had just the right amount of heat. We started with the heirloom tomatoes and burrata which paired with a Pinot set the perfect stage for dinner. And save room for the home made gelato. Overall another sumptuous meal. Cook is a must on any list to this area.
A Saint Helena gem, that never disappoints!
The gnocchi with Gorgonzola sauce is a must.
Pleasant waitstaff; small storefront on Main Street in St. Helena. They have a sister location a couple of doors down that has pizzas - this review is not for that location. We will return to this restaurant. Generous portions on the appetizers and the mains were well executed and nicely plated. Excellent risotto could have been a touch more al dente, but that's a personal preference and not a criticism.
Very nice dessert (we had white peach champagne granita).
All food was great, the only dish that was somewhat bland (all others were excellent) was the eggplant parm. Needed to be cooked longer and needs a little spice to it. Cavatelli was awesome. Burrata was awesome. Just the one dish wasn't our favorite.
Great food! Service was a little inattentive. Had to ask for water refill twice but they were friendly.
Delicious meal, we had the special risotto which that niche came with swordfish which was absolutely delicious. A thoroughly lovely experience.
WE HAVE GONE MANY TIMES. MOST CASES REALLY GOOD EXPERIENCE. LAST WEEKS DINING EXPERIENCE WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING. DINNER SERVICE AT THE BAR WAS NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED.
BARTENDERS SEEMED UNINTERESTED . THEY WERE BUSY BUT NOT THAT BUSY. CONSTANTLY HAD ASKED FOR SIMPLE THINGS.
MY WIFE LOVED HER PASTA (BOLOGNESE). THE GNOCCHI ITSELF REALLY GOOD BUT MARINARA SAUCE TASTED VERY TANGY. /JAR LIKE.
GREAT LITTLE COZY PLACE BUT THEY MISSED THE MARK THIS PAST WEEK.
Warm atmosphere, high quality ingredients, laid back, solid wine list. Love it!
Great service and delicious food. Bolognese with ricotta scrummy.
