Ellie's is located in the Art's District and is a lovely place to have a meal before a show or the symphony. Our service was excellent and the dinner was delicious. It was around happy hour and there was enough noise coming from the patrons at the lounge that at times it was about difficult to hear. But I guess having a lot of people in your establishment is a good problem to have. I will definitely return.

We arrived at the restaurant On Time for our reservation. A couple, without a reservation, who arrived just before us, was immediately seated. The staff first tried to get us to accept a (tiny) cocktail table, because they were trying to save the tables for two in the restaurant for couples with reservations! But the “fun” didn’t stop there. Even though there were several normally positioned tables for two that were unoccupied, they tried to seat us at a table in the middle of the passage way the wait staff used to serve the tables on both sides of the passageway. Oh, this table was literally on top of a large group seated at the back of the dining area. When we asked why we couldn’t sit at a more normally positioned table, we were told that these were “reserved”. (More about this below) Eventually we were seated at a table. But none of the waitstaff seemed to know who was assigned to our table. After awhile one person gave us water, another (after quite a wait) took our order for wine, a third took our appetizer order; with each of them telling us that they were not our waiter. But as all this was occurring, there were several people crowded around the wait stand, while only a couple of waiters were trying to service tables that they (apparently) not assigned to. We were told that they were having electronic communication problems. Interestingly, we noted that those “reserved” tables remained unoccupied for most of our meal.

Be aware, if you actually want to talk with your dinner companion, that they might put you in the lounge where a woman will be singing. It was not a last minute reservation. I'd made it a month before. We were also in the aisle where every waitperson walked to and fro to get drinks from the bar. We had to ask multiple times for napkins, even after our 1st course came (soup, so napkins needed) I had to ask for silverware after my entre came. We asked multiple times for the check, even though we'd told our waitress at the very start that we'd a show to go to (that can't be that unusual for a downtown place). They claimed the computers were down but that didn't excuse the unprepared table settings/service. We weren't the only ones as the lady next to us literally jumped up and flagged down one of the servers to ask for menus, it led to some discussion, all of it about 6 inches from our table. As to the food, my husband liked his short rips. We both liked our soups and appreciated the chef's trying new flavors (persimmon/pear soup) but my pasta was not even warm and had gone tough, as if it had waited for the piping hot sweet potato puree. As the pasta wasn't dressed at all that I could see, (the beet sauce was drizzled on the plate) so I mixed the pasta with the hot puree which completely overwhelmed any taste of the parsnip filling and the sauce. I eat sweet potatoes all the time so not what I'd come for. I did like my cocktail (winter solstice) and the downtown setting was fun. As a lounge it works, but we'd come for a dining experience.

This was our third time to eat dinner at Ellie’s and it will be our last. The first two times we thought they were just trying to find their place but after the third time we are convinced it’s just poor execution. The food pairing and dishes are just strange and don’t make much sense. The dinner service has also not improved. Ellie’s is the place for a evening drink listening to the live piano player/singer but it is not a dinner place. It had potential but unfortunately it’s just fallen flat.

We had our thanksgiving meal here, server was the only shining star of the evening. Kitchen was quick to send out main course before appetizer. Bruschetta board we good unique flavors.. both main courses ordered brought out, the 72 hour braised beef was pretty good. Pairing with a horseradish potato was a terrible idea , should have just given a blob of wasabi and called it good… cod was full of Chile and not part of the description… server tried to make it right and was the only shining star of the night. Hotel entry was was full of Christmas and decorated very elegant..

We are on a road trip and went to Ellie’s for Thanksgiving Dinner and it did not disappoint. We had a relaxing night and they didn’t rush us like most places do on holiday dinners. I had the lobster bisque and lamb entree which were both super delicious. Hubby had the brie crostini and Cornish hen entree which were also delicious. We saved room for dessert, pumpkin cheesecake and it was by far the best cheesecake we’ve had. Service was spectacular and our waitress was very sweet. Very grateful to the staff and the executive chef who came over to ask how everything was going.

My friend and I went to the Sunday jazz brunch prior to a matinee performance at the Symphony. It’s a block away from the Symphony so it’s super convenient. The atmosphere is very nice. The server was attentive and the food was good. It was relaxing to drink wine and listen to the jazz trio. It was a little loud since we were seated right next to the trio but we still enjoyed it. I got the Sunrise sandwich which was eggs and bacon and cheddar cheese. It was good. My friend got this dish with tomatoes and sofrito and olives. She really enjoyed it. We will definitely be back!

The menu could be updated to include more vegetarian, or pescatarian dishes. I had the truffle raviolis and it was ok, something was missing; not sure what. My wife had the ribeye, and she enjoyed her dish. The service was great, our server went above and further. Great music

The atmosphere of this restaurant and service is excellent, unfortunately the food is not very good and therefore not a good value. The ravioli was tasteless and the halibut was fishy smelling. Go for a quiet drink and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

We came in after the Opera and had snacks from the bar menu - the brisket tacos were quite good for two of us, and our third party had the mushroom burger. She didn't realize it wasn't mushrooms over meat, so not quite what was anticipated. I always enjoy Ellie's Cabernet, so my meal was complete.

Walking into the space we were impressed by the clean, modern, and bright ambience. There was a live pianist and tastefully displayed art. The service was decent enough, although it took a while for first contact. Initially we were most excited for the food, that is of course the main reason we go to restaurants. The website showed beautiful plates and talked up the chef quite a bit. However, what we received was less than impressive. Even though the portion sizes were decent, the plating was unimaginative, the sides were quite bland, and the proteins were not cooked properly. I would say the price of the food held up against the ambience and location, but overall was not worth it for what we received.

This is a lovely restaurant with a pleasant vibe, although a little on the pricey side. The host and waitress were great, but the kitchen took forever to bring our food and they got our order mixed up. Our waitress went into the kitchen and got it quickly corrected and comped an extra glass of wine. They were out of a couple of dishes we wanted to order but what we had was good.

Ordered the mushroom burger and the mushrooms were so tough they could not be cut with a knife or chewed. Maybe try a different type of mushroom..? Service was professional and attentive, nice to see the dining room full of people. Jazz trio is always a high point.

The food was not hot - served room temperature at best. 72 hr short rib was sliced chewy meat, no horseradish in the mashed potatoes. The warmest item on our plates was the bok choy. With a reservation we were seated in what felt like a hallway. Go to see the art - skip the food.
