The noise level was terrible. Large party of ten roundly, loud ,drunk men . Appeared to be an office party. Should have separate room for such groups. As it is open space with open mezzanine balcony, everyone was inconvenienced. the location in the west Village was much more enjoyable.
Excllent food test & service
While the wait staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and the building beautiful, the food overall was attractively presented but mediocre in quality and selection was weak. Most disturbing though was the rock-concert level noise level which prevented anyone not screaming to have a conversation, due to the loft-like nature of this two-story open restaurant. Can’t recommend.
Very good. Guacamole and 7 salsas were awesome! The short ribs melted in your mouth. Very unique.
Great food, great vibe, quieter if upstairs. Enjoy
A lovely, tasteful large space with an inviting mezzanine. Clean and chic environment.
Nice staff. Not always easy to understand clearly (thick accents) some servers.
Interesting menu..could us a few more selections. The seven sauces were innovative and delicious....servings too small for a party of six.
Food a tad slow in coming. Prawn appetizer very skimpy and not worth the wait of price.
Soft shell tempura crabs were exquisite...a home run!
Music/ambient chatter a bit noisy up in the mezzanine....perhaps kill the recorded music upstairs and keep for the downstairs bar crowd and diners.
All in all a very nice experience. I will keep recommending for out of town guests. Keep the prices as low as possible.
Kudos to the staff and kitchen. The hostess is outstanding, always great to be greeted by her.
Always enjoy dinner at Emellon, the guacamole and 7 sauce salsa’s are always a must. Enjoyed some new items not he menu which were stupendous and a reason we always return there, i.e. continue creativity with solid mainstays on the menu. And of course the drinks are top notch. If the cherries are on the menu, order them, they were a hit and only available when in season.
Much too noisy. Tho a bit quieter upstairs
squash blossoms soup was good if a little bland. the chicken dish in prix fixe was salty and bland . The flan was very good. Service was rushed for no reason the place was not full. One colleague had her plate twice attempted to be removed before she was finished, and they succeeded the second time. Another colleague had his main course brought to table before he was even half way done with his soup, and they just pushed his soup aside to put down the main meal. Untrained staff over hyped bland food.
We had a fabulous evening. Very personable service and to die for Wagyu fajitas. They were great with our seafood allergy.
Food was on point. Drinks was carefully prepared and recommendation was given. Loved every second.
It was fantastic! Loved the food and the ambiance! Desserts are to die for.
Food was ok. Nothing was outstanding. None of the wait staff or hostess ever smiled.
Food was underwhelming and service was slow. Relatively disappointing experience given the reputation.
Food is decent, but not for the price you are paying - overall value is low. Prefer the West Village location's ambiance to the Midtown location.
Empellon was excellent. The tacos were superb and creative. The atmosphere at lunch is terrific. A curiosity, however: they have a three-course prix fixe menu at lunch for$36, I believe. But their original menu does not include prices for each of the courses, so it's impossible to determine the value of the prix fixe, and whether it makes sense to order it. Nonetheless, it's a great place.
Great high end Mexican. Outstanding food.
The food was good. The guacamole was excellent! Nice business lunch
The 7 sauces given at the table are amazing on everything and I would definitely return here just for the sauces and the desserts. Really creative desserts and our waitress gave us one extra so we could try it.
High energy at the bar however a table for 6 downstairs at 7:00 it was way too loud to have a conversation!! You couldn’t hear the waiter and we are not old people. We were here a year ago and we sat upstairs. Much better! Food was good.
Food and drinks were absolutely delicious. Best Mexican restaurant I’ve been to in NYC. Didn’t enjoy sitting by the kitchen, but the margaritas calmed that concern quickly. Great for any occasion
Just be aware that it is a pricey restaurant for entrees. The guacamole appetizer is $21.00 which I think is a lot! The tacos were very interesting besides being delicious. Wine was very good and our server was outstanding.
Overall it was a very nice experience.
corporate restaurant - not great for a friends/family type of event. food OK, but not worth the price. was not impressed...
Decent food, nothing special. The cocktails are great. Desserts are not.
Loved the presentation, ambiance and tastes. Great creative combinations on the lunch menu
Don’t get the halibut it’s not worth it but definitely try the pastrami tacos and the beef tartare queso
Empellon for dinner has always put on an exotic performance for out of town guests. But lunch was disappointing. The fish tacos were completely uninspired: in taste and presentation. I was even left hungry afterwards, not a good sign. I've seen more passionate trimmings and condiments from a food truck.
Our waitress was very good. She helped us navigate the menu so we did not order too much or too little, the food was excellent!
Great service, but terrible food. We tried 8 dishes and 5 were not worth eating. They are trying too hard to be different and it just doesn't work. The guacamole and desserts were fine.
Fabulous and delicious!
My go to midtown lunch spot!
Awesome service and vibe. Loved the pastrami tacos.
Quite loud for a lunch spot. Appetizers and sides were good. Mains were solid, not remarkable in taste/flavor. Cocktails were great.
Perfect lunch spot with great service and food. Highly recommended
Top of the line - outstanding food 😉
Food is a amazing, cocktails delicious and service outstanding.
Relaxed fine dining experience, with friendly staff and a Smokey flavored menu. Family friendly.
I’ve eaten here half a dozen times and generally really liked it. This particular experience was really bad. The service was terrible - indifferent at best. The new menu is really limited. No chicken, and the one fish entre was mushy and tasteless. The only good things remain the guacamole and the margaritas. If this place doesn’t improve and stick to its roots, I’m going to take it off my list for work and social gatherings.
Nice ambience, though despite booking well ahead , we had the worst seat and were told thats all they had- not true
Very limited choice for vegetarians. Whatever we had was well above average mexican restaurants. They need to take the Hash brown taco off the menu !!! Awwful hash brown taco , and if one has to eat that we could go to Mac Donalds
The drinks were good and the guac was amazing, but everything else was mediocre. The desserts looked very cool but tasted okay.
The food was pretty good, but even though we indicated that this was a special occasion, there was no acknowledgement of the occasion. The service was fine although a little spotty between courses.
