Epicurean Café is locally owned and managed by Chef Omar Powell.
Beautiful old house conversion. Small Dining areas in several rooms so remains quiet. Professional, attentive service. App sizes rather small, but all food items were delicious--the pan seared duck was the rave.
Always a wonderful time and the food is always delicious. Todd the bartender never fails to have my Marguerita waiting and it’s the best!
The limited menu was a surprise. There wasn’t much on it that was appetizing to us. The fixed price was a joke. The only main course I could eat was the steak and that cost an extra $15. I ordered it rare and it came almost well done. No doubt because it is difficult to judge a piece of meat that small. Only 2 small mushrooms, 2 small pieces of asparagus and a small over-done steak. The only decent serving on the plate was the mashed potatoes. The starting salad was about a half cup measure in total. Desert was the smallest sliver of chocolate torte - 2 inches long by 1/4 in at the widest end of the wedge. My husband had the very bland lentils stuffed into a very small piece of zucchini. For 2 meals at $45 fixed price, we left hungery with Bill of $180.00. Never again!!
Came on Valentine's Day, have been wanting to try it since we moved to Duluth over a year ago. Would only serve a Valentine's menu that was very pricey for what we got and would not serve off their normal menu. No announcement on the website or when we made the reservations. Felt manipulated. Messed up order (served the wrong appetizer) and had to wait for about 15 minutes before we saw the waiter again to correct it. None of the courses were hot; all were lukewarm at best. Also coffee seemed complementary with the dessert (especially for the price of the meal) and yet was charged for it in the end. Wished we could have tried the regular menu. Bottom line: overpriced, not interested in customer happiness, ambience can't make up for these. Take a picture in front and move on to another restaurant.
Excellent Food and excellent service in a quiet, pleasant atmosphere for lunch.
Great meals!Great meals!Great meals!Great meals!Great meals!Great meals!
Delicious food and amazing service!
They did a very nice job. The food was very good. I will return.
Food was delicious! Old house but beautiful. Great service.
My family and I went for my mother's 66th birthday dinner and had a great experience! Wonderful food! I wouldn't recommend this place for children as it was a quiet atmosphere.
Great ambience and service but the food was only average in taste and when the price is entered into the equation it doesn't maintain an average grade.
I live about an hour away, more than worth the drive. The food is perfection. I had the short ribs. Fall off the bone delicious!!!! The bread pudding, best I've ever had. Can't wait to go back
Excellent service. Excellent Food. Glad I was able to find an excuse to visit.
Great all around. Specials were top notch.
Delicious well prepared food. Loved the Kale and Pear salad. The Lamb chops were beautifully prepared and completely delicious!!!!!
Great food, great service in a really cute house in historic downtown Duluth
Fantastic that they were open for Thanksgiving. The food was very good. Loved the cheese grits!
We have loved Epicurean for several years. This meal was outstanding. We had a hard time choosing from the multiple options, and we all loved our choices, front short ribs, to salmon, to the red snapper special. The service was also excellent and since we were there for an early dinner we had the room to ourselves which made it a very cozy, fun family evening.
We enjoyed our first visit and plan to return. The food, service, and atmosphere were all great.
My lady and I have dined here four times now and we absolutely love this place! The customer service is excellent and the food is great! We have no complaints. The menu options are plentiful and the presentation is excellent.
Quiet evening to meet up with a friend. Service was good and an overall great experience.
Very nice place. I would definitely visit again. I took my guy on a date there and it was super nice...
We love Epicurean! Food is delicious and most of the servers are amazing. We've had a loud party beside us before (not the restaurant's fault, really), but we barely could hear each other talk with how close the tables are to each other.. so that was less than ideal, but still overall enjoyable! Definitely will go back 👍🏻
The waitress come too often asking how is everything, but it really too often so bothering my business discuss being interrupted. and
Overall food and service were good. The restaurant has not been kept up, there was a door hanging on a hinge in the dining room. I remember the restaurant had a charming feel with piano, wine tastings and the staff would make recommendations to pair food with wine. However during my last visit the place looked tired and there wasn't much of a wow factor, it's not what I expected.
Nice place - beautiful old house. BUT: our server was like talking to a brick wall. Zero personality, zero friendliness, nothing. He acted like he was doing a favor by even being there. His tip reflected his behavior. Food was okay- nothing great. My entree was not hot- like it had been sitting for a few min. Mac n cheese was not “Mac”, which was disappointing. It was only okay. Dessert was bread pudding that was undercooked. It was also just okay in flavor. Overall not great. Not somewhere I would go back to.
The Epicurean Cafe is my favorite restaurant in Duluth. We sat outside and it was the perfect night. The ambiance with the lights and the trees was perfect. Todd was the perfect waiter and I fully trusted all of his recommendations. Delicious and different food. Beautiful old house. I try to go here every chance I get.
Nice neighborhood special place.
Had a business lunch here. This restaurant is set in a historic home. Neat atmosphere and plenty of room between tables. Noise level was moderate so it was easy to have a conversation with my guest. The service was superb. Professional waiter, didn't rush us, didn't interrupt us, let us talk and knew when to insert himself to serve us. Wish all waiters were that way. Food was excellent. I'll go again.
The service and food were great. We really enjoyed our meal and the setting. The only caveat we had was that the music, which was fine volume wise, just not very enjoyable. Too edgy for our tastes and kind of grated on your nerves as time went by. Seemed like just one long song.
Other than that we really enjoyed ourselves and our highly recommend it.
Great location in Duluth, and one of the nicer outdoor eating spots I've been too.
Our meal was great, and even if you are not a fan of brussel sprounts, make sure to try the scallop appetizer and it will convert you!
It made it especially nice that there was a concert in the Duluth Square.
The Chef does a wonderful job of creating very healthy and delicious meals.
Love visiting Epicurean. I'm there 4 to 5 times per month for business meetings. One of the best restaurants in downtown Duluth.
The food was fine. The server had a large beard that was not closely groomed. When he delivered drinks, there was hair on the table cloth from his beard. It was not appetizing to have a server with that much hair close to the food
We had a lovely little table outside amongst the trees. Service was wonderful and the meal was extraordinary. There were many scrumptious looking items on the menu so we will be back to sample more dishes!
We came here for my boyfriend's birthday lunch. The service was great. Quiet atmosphere and great price food for the amount you get. I would come here again. Thanks again.
Hostess was very accomadating. Hostess is also the owner of the establishment who doesn't mind helping out. Diners also are able to converse with the owner. Menu isn't too extensive, however the food is well prepared and tasty
Had a lovely, intimate lunch to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We both had the lunch special, which consisted of coconut-cauliflower soup, organic green salad with kale and fruit, and grilled chicken Marsala sandwich. All items were delicious. We also had fried green tomatoes as a starter and those were exceptional! Lastly, they gave us a complimentary bread pudding desert that was wonderful.
Great dining experience. We went for my birthday prior to a concert at the Red Clay Theater. We were enjoying our dinner so much we missed the first song of the opening act. Sitting outside on the deck overlooking the green space was a special treat. The weather was perfect and the food was out of this world. I started with the pear and kale salad (yum), we split the fried green tomotoes (a special treat) and I had the lamb chops (absolutely perfect) I couldn't have thought of a better way to enjoy my birthday. Great little find.
