Epicurean Café is locally owned and managed by Chef Omar Powell.
We had a 7:30 dinner reservation. We arrived and were seated at 7:35. We left 20 minutes later after receiving two glasses of water and two menus. That was it. No waiter, no apology, no service (other than the water). So I have no opinion about the food.
Wonderful young staff, good tasting dishes, especially the short ribs. a little heavy on the sauce for some of the dishes, but I noticed that that appears to be more the chef's style. Flavor-wise everything is on point.
The food was amazing. I had the braised short rib, and it was so tender and flavorful! The bread pudding is also out of the world! Loved the service and the ambience as well, all exceptional!
Had a wonderful time! Even when my dish wasn't cooked to my desired temperature, the server and chef went above and beyond to fix it. It left such a positive impact that I will absolutely return. They truly take pride in their food and service.
Excellent. We had seafood special, which was cod superbly prepared. Scallops appetizer and caprese salad. Cocktails were tasty and smooth. Patio dining overlooking town green area was lovely. Very attentive service!
Very enjoyable. Tasty food.
I’ve been here three times for lunch and have always been pleased. The food and service are both excellent. It wasn’t very busy for a Friday which surprised me, but I wasn’t disappointed in my lunchtime experience.
Nice surprise right in the heart of Duluth, GA. A lot of ambiance of an old home. Staff, especially Gayle, our waitress, are pleasant and efficient. I enjoyed the short ribs, which were as Gayle noted, 'spoon soft!' My wife's pogrkchop was outstanding, rich and pink, most tasty. Made for another meal! For dessert we both enjoyed the flourless chocolate torte - excellent. Nice romantic place for a meal. (We tried to take advantage of the City's free Uber rides but were told when it failed that we had the wrong code! What?) Oh well, it was a nice evening. Thanks Gayle!
Food and service were great. Looking forward to going back again.
What a spot! Everything about this place was fantastic, especially the food! Although it was a long drive, we wanted to try something different and we were highly pleased. We'll be back!
Quality of food was outstanding. Able to accommodate special request. Service was great.
We took our guests from Wisconsin out to dinner at Epicurean Cafe to enjoy the newly developed Duluth downtown area at a restaurant in an traditional southern flair. We were delighted with some of the most delighted by a simply superb, creative meal and truly excellent service. We were greeted by name based on our reservation, seated in one of several cozy rooms, each with just a few tables, providing a great environment for conversation. It was our first visit to Epicurean Cafe. Our friends commented on how much they enjoyed the experience and the food. We will definitely be back often. A true delight.
We were seated in the smaller room to left. It was pretty intimate and nicely decorated. Our server was engaging and knowledgeable about the menu and the specials. We enjoyed all of the courses, especially the Cod and risotto entree...The bread pudding was well done as well. Will definitely return.
There were some positives but overall each dish seemed too complicated - lots of elements that didn't necessarily work. The fish of the day (cod) was perfectly cooked, but the accompaniments were sort of overwhelming. It also took 22 minutes to get desert - and the breadpudding was still cold in the middle. Reheated bread pudding isn't a winner. Service was friendly (but a 22 minute later desert should have been comped).
Great place for a business lunch or personal lunch. Food and service are great with original menu items. I highly recommend it.
The food was good, not spectacular. I ordered the shrimp appetizer and it was so spicy it probably tainted my taste buds form the rest of the meal. The dish as listed as spicy but somewhere between five alarm and volcanic would be more appropriate. They seemed to be quite understaffed and the service suffered.
Great food with options for everyone. This is a must try.
While meeting the hostess, we said that we were attending a show that evening and she said to let the waitress know, which we did. There were four of us that struggled to fit into a tiny table meant for two. The little room that we sat in was full and it was unnecessarily crowded as there were other table throughout the house. We ordered wine and there was not room at the table for the bottle and had to be kept on the fireplace mantle. The food took a very long time to come and we had to wait a considerable time for the wine. When the steak arrived it wasn't cooked enough and that took even more time as two at the table finished there meals before the steak returned to the table. We ordered a s]dessert that took forever to come out and we were going to cancel the order because the show was about to start so they missed the mark on that. We really din't get to enjoy the dessert as we had to rush from the restaurant. The price for the fish was quite high and was either refrozen or not of good quality. It was supposed to be a white flakey fish but was chewy.
Good food and prices
This place is fantastic and on nice days the patio is divine. Food is A+, staff A+, Ambiance A+. Go for a romantic date and a show at EOP afterwards.
Beautiful old house conversion. Small Dining areas in several rooms so remains quiet. Professional, attentive service. App sizes rather small, but all food items were delicious--the pan seared duck was the rave.
Always a wonderful time and the food is always delicious. Todd the bartender never fails to have my Marguerita waiting and it’s the best!
The limited menu was a surprise. There wasn’t much on it that was appetizing to us. The fixed price was a joke. The only main course I could eat was the steak and that cost an extra $15. I ordered it rare and it came almost well done. No doubt because it is difficult to judge a piece of meat that small. Only 2 small mushrooms, 2 small pieces of asparagus and a small over-done steak. The only decent serving on the plate was the mashed potatoes. The starting salad was about a half cup measure in total. Desert was the smallest sliver of chocolate torte - 2 inches long by 1/4 in at the widest end of the wedge. My husband had the very bland lentils stuffed into a very small piece of zucchini. For 2 meals at $45 fixed price, we left hungery with Bill of $180.00. Never again!!
Came on Valentine's Day, have been wanting to try it since we moved to Duluth over a year ago. Would only serve a Valentine's menu that was very pricey for what we got and would not serve off their normal menu. No announcement on the website or when we made the reservations. Felt manipulated. Messed up order (served the wrong appetizer) and had to wait for about 15 minutes before we saw the waiter again to correct it. None of the courses were hot; all were lukewarm at best. Also coffee seemed complementary with the dessert (especially for the price of the meal) and yet was charged for it in the end. Wished we could have tried the regular menu. Bottom line: overpriced, not interested in customer happiness, ambience can't make up for these. Take a picture in front and move on to another restaurant.
Excellent Food and excellent service in a quiet, pleasant atmosphere for lunch.
Great meals!Great meals!Great meals!Great meals!Great meals!Great meals!
Delicious food and amazing service!
They did a very nice job. The food was very good. I will return.
Food was delicious! Old house but beautiful. Great service.
My family and I went for my mother's 66th birthday dinner and had a great experience! Wonderful food! I wouldn't recommend this place for children as it was a quiet atmosphere.
Great ambience and service but the food was only average in taste and when the price is entered into the equation it doesn't maintain an average grade.
I live about an hour away, more than worth the drive. The food is perfection. I had the short ribs. Fall off the bone delicious!!!! The bread pudding, best I've ever had. Can't wait to go back
Excellent service. Excellent Food. Glad I was able to find an excuse to visit.
Great all around. Specials were top notch.
Delicious well prepared food. Loved the Kale and Pear salad. The Lamb chops were beautifully prepared and completely delicious!!!!!
Great food, great service in a really cute house in historic downtown Duluth
Fantastic that they were open for Thanksgiving. The food was very good. Loved the cheese grits!
We have loved Epicurean for several years. This meal was outstanding. We had a hard time choosing from the multiple options, and we all loved our choices, front short ribs, to salmon, to the red snapper special. The service was also excellent and since we were there for an early dinner we had the room to ourselves which made it a very cozy, fun family evening.
We enjoyed our first visit and plan to return. The food, service, and atmosphere were all great.
