Fishing With Dynamite
What Insiders Are Saying
We don't use the term "destination restaurant" lightly. But the seafood at Manhattan Beach's Fishing With Dynamite more than fits the bill.
Had a great time! Food is always fresh! Love ordering the Queen Mary for all the different seafood choices that come with the dish!
Went for brunch & the food/ drinks were great!
The music is WAY too loud and also inappropriate for dinner: hard rock and EDM.
Also, tables are way too close; anyone over 250 pounds will be unable to get to their seat!
I have been there about 4 times and each time is a unique wonderful experience. LOVE our server Mauri. Food amazing!!! Atmosphere charming...Cant say enough about this fantastic restaurant.
always a treat to come to FWD, best raw bar in LA
Best Seafood and Service in LA.
Ask for Sal, or better yet. Sit as his bar
We had a wonderful lunch here recently. The total experience was excellent -- the quality of the seafood was first rate as was the service. This is our second time visiting the restaurant -- we ate dinner there a while ago and the restaurant has maintained its high quality. The seafood is ultra fresh. We had raw oysters and scallops that tasted like they just came from the sea. The clam chowder is rich and flavorful. We each had a bowl and will probably share a bowl next time due to the richness. My hubby had the shrimp poboy and I had the steamed mussels. Everything was seasoned perfectly!! I even took the remaining broth from the mussels home - it was that good. Our server was helpful in suggesting a perfect wine to go with our meal. It was great to visit again.
The food was incredible (oh— that grilled octopus and those Peruvian scallops), and our server went above and beyond! She even went out and paid my parking meter when I ran out of time. An unforgettable meal, we will be back soon!
The food and service is awesome!!!
It was perfect as always.
Our server Sophie was incredible.
Amazingly fresh fish, great preparations and thoughtful drink and wine list. Love this place!
We're regulars here. They never disappoint, with friendly, attentive service and superb seafood.
First off, you need to make a reservation, it really is worth it. The restaurant is small but comfortable - it can be tight quarters when it is full, we had our reservation at 130pm, so at tail end of lunch rush - still busy but the staff is so on it you would never know they are slammed. I have to say, some of the best service we have had. Second, do yourself a favor and have a cocktail. We had "I've got a Fever and The Modern Prometheus." Both are outstanding. The dishes, the Halibut done with black eyed peas and neuske's bacon so good. The Mahi Mahi grilled fish tacos were wonderful. We did start with an order of oysters from the raw bar as well as some jumbo shrimp. All in all a great experience.
Great food. Great servers. Fabulous oysters.
Need to eat here more often. It was amazing. Crab cakes, oysters, and octopus are a must.
The food and service was outstanding. Upon arrival we asked for an open window table and were told it was reserved. No one used that table while we were there. The only issue we had was that our table for 2 had tables on both sides situated so close making all conversations not private.
The food is just so fresh and so well prepared, we always look forward to dining here. Very happy with the service as everyone has a causal style and appearance but they are all fiercely knowledgeable about the food, preparation, etc. Really just a great dining experience.
Kid friendly excellent food!
The music was horrendous. There was a constant, loud bass drum beat. We wanted to talk but that made it near impossible. I found it really annoying. I complained to our server and she basically tried to have them lower it to little avail. Also we had a 6:30 reservation and we were not seated til 7. Do you think if we showed up at 7 they would have seated us with a 6:30 reservation? No way.
I am a local and I really was disappointed. Even the oysters did not taste as good as usual.
Very slow service plus extremely salty dish equals to a 2 stars rating, period.
We arrived at 8:55p for a 9p reservation and were told they were waiting for tables to open up and that it would be about 10 minutes. We went to grab a drink, and as the space is small and the bar was full, we were constantly in the way of the servers. We were not seated until almost 9:40p when two other parties of two departed - and not the table of four that we were supposedly waiting for - they went on to order dessert after we had been told they had paid their check. It is very frustrating to make a reservation and then have to wait forty minutes - especially that late in the evening - given that their kitchen closes at 10:30p. While the food and the server were both great, it made for a poor beginning to the evening and one where we would not likely revisit.
This was our first time visiting this restaurant and it was very good. We enjoyed all the dishes especially the fresh oysters. Our server, Sarah, was very nice and apologized for the longer than normal wait once we sat at our table. Another woman brought over a doodle pad for our son to play with during our visit as well. Everyone was very attentive and we will definitely be back.
The scallops from the raw bar were the perfect starter, then we had the crab cakes benedict and halibut ceviche which both had a good balance of flavors. We finished off with the key lime pie which was perfect with a hint of fresh lime zest.
Friend’s birthday. We enjoyed their delicious key lime pie! Wish they had cappuccino!
FWD is fantastic! Very busy and active, when we arrived the table was not ready but they had a booth ready before our cocktails were ready, super service and the food was awesome!
I took my husband to dinner here for his birthday and everything was amazing from start to finish. I definitely recommend ordering to share and trying multiple items on the menu. You cannot go wrong starting with oysters. Although everything we ordered was delicious, our favorite dish was the Alaskan Halibut. And for dessert the pretzel bread pudding is a must!
In California from New Mexico. Needed a seafood fix!
The entire experience was great except for the place got really hot when they closed the door, which was a questionable move be cause it was beautiful outside
Amazing on every level
The key lime pie! Always on point!
The cuisine is flavorful, inventive, nuanced. The dishes are perfectly sized and complement each other. The fries serve as the perfect side dish for everything else on the menu. The hamachi is sublime and extraordinary, better than sex (and I’m not talking regular sex, I mean the kind with other people).
If you can afford $75 for a dinner, this is the best place in the Southland.
Lovely place - the servers were kind and attentive. Food was yummy - The music BLASTING LOUD!
Had to ask it be turned down twice - at a business lunch meeting - it would be nice to hear the others at the table. What is it with restaurants - people go out with their friend to talk- catch up - or do business...hard to do anything like that when the noise is deafening. Please turn it down - especially in the daytime. If so we will return.
This was our second time at Fishing With Dynamite - food and service was amazing as usual.
Great cocktails! Seafood is the top notch. The seafood rice, oysters, himachi, and crab cake were all delicious
Excellent food again! We had the halibut with black eyed peas. A definite plus.
*Everything* about FWD is *extraordinary*.
End. Of. Story.
Literally every time my girlfriend and I eat here, we are more and more impressed. The oysters are a must!!
Music too loud. Great music, but too loud.
