This is a newer restaurant being open for less than 2 months. It will become a popular hotspot for sure. Our server Erica was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and made perfect recommendations. The Branzino Carpaccio was amazing. Get the Mieloso for dessert. I loved the ambiance. We will be back. Thank you for the great experience.

This was a very strange dining experience. You could feel how green everyone was. Considering the price point, everything needs to be on point. When you can’t even make a simple dirty martini and you’re charging nine dollars for a basic bread basket, things should be running more smoothly. The strangest thing was the music which kept changing mid song. To be fair, my shrimp dish was totally fine. But for $30, I expected more than just three scampi. Can’t say I’ll be coming back.

Interior design very welcoming, modern yet cozy. Staff is attentive. Food, unfortunately, not quite on point. Slightly bland. And just a bit disappointing for the price. Not bad overall, but not very special either.

Expensive but delicious. Expect to spend $100+ per person on food alone. We tried all of the pastas and was outstanding. Definitely a special occasion kind of place.

We loved the menu, service, wine and ambience. Food was good but needed some tweaking. We ordered the Fettunta which turned out to be a slice of bread sitting in olive oil. Though yummy, it seemed kinda basic that I’d normally expect as complimentary. The beef cheeks were good but lacked salt. It came with some candied fruits that made no sense. My bolognese was wonderful.

I was disappointed with the food. Pasta did not have good texture and not much taste. Our steak was probably the best thing we ordered. Also the shrimp was over cooked. Drinks were good. Waiter was amazing which made our experience a little better. For the price of the dishes, I was super disappointed because I don’t mind paying for food quality food but it was not.

If you're looking for an Italian restaurant that offers more authentic Tuscan cuisine this just might be the perfect place for you. Chef Michele Brogi is a breath of fresh air on Los Angeles fine dining scene, and his unique menu will keep on bringing you back to try more. Dishes that shouldn't be missed: Tonno and Manzo Tartare, Fetunta bread, Polpo Toco Toscano (delicious octopus), pastas - Cacio e Pepe, Spaghetti Vongole and Pappardelle, as well as the most tender meet you'll ever have - Guance di Manzo (beef cheek). Bar offers a variety of refreshing cocktails such as Illegal Blow (mezcal), Arancia Morbida (gin) and Pear Martini. For those with sweet tooth - Mieloso (the real honey cake) and Tiramisu are the way to go. Ambience is very modern and blends perfectly with food. It gives you enough intimacy and you should definitely consider "H&F" as your first date spot (and come back for all the subsequent ones). Staff is welcoming and accommodating, willing to guide you trough the menu so you don't miss any of the specials, such as delicious black and white truffles, which, for those who enjoy them will be an instant delight, and I would recommend adding them to Manzo tartare and Pappardelle pasta.

Picked this restaurant on a whim. It has only been open for a couple of weeks but is sure to be a much sought dinner spot in the DTLA art district. Great “Date-Night” spot (ambiance was nice) or gathering place with the girls. Definitely adding this to my rotation. My server “Kamari (probably misspelled) was amazing!

I never give 5 star reviews. This place deserved it. Only downside was our server was quiet and strangely almost completely ignored us after taking our order. Our drinks arrived after our main course, and we had to wait annoyingly day too long for the check. I eventually had to flag another server to get it. But even with that downside, the food was SO good the 5 star review stands. There wasn't one bite that wasn't exquisite.

Service here is fantastic but the food isn’t very good. The food was bland and under seasoned. Our halibut was very overcooked and rubbery. Hopefully these are just opening pains and things will get better but for the price I just can’t justify going again.

Food was underwhelming and timing was very off. They are still very new so they have a lot of kinks to work out but the service was great. The wait staff and manager ensured the guests were treated well and left happy despite the food not being able to wow guests.

Beautifully decorated restaurant in the arts district of Los Angeles. The ambiance was harmonious and pleasant. I was particularly touched by the oliviers indoors. The staff is friendly and welcomes you with a big smile. Ingredients used are fresh and of good quality. I want to highlight the olive oil used for fettunta in particular, which was very well picked. The branzino carpaccio and the beef tartare were well seasoned to highlight the true taste of the products rather than mask it like many restaurants in the United States do; the fish and the beef were sublimed. The beef cheek entrée however was bland although the texture was well mastered. It felt like eating a beautifully-textured piece of cardboard. The cacio e Pepe pasta was equally as bland. The pasta itself tasted very fresh but the cacio e pepe not seasoned at all. We asked for grana panado, which never came. The Mieloso desert was well balanced and tasty. Although friendly, the service was unusually slow, possibly due to the fact that the maître d’hôtel (“maitre d” in English I believe) was giving his full attention to one guest in particular for 2.5 hours, shaking hands and shooting selfies with said guest during the service. A good start for this trendy restaurant in Los Angeles, but some areas for improvement. Positive experience overall.

One of our best Italian dining experiences. All aspects of dinner were excellent. And the restaurant had been open for 3 days! Our waiter was very competent. We had noted a severe food allergy when making the reservation online and the hostess, waiter and kitchen were aware of this condition beforehand. The menu was accommodating. My wife is a vegetarian and they were choices for her. Traditional Italian and very well prepared. Everything was very tasty. We shared food so we had a broad tasting experience. The restaurant wasn’t crowded and food came out a comfortable pace. Dessert was complimentary and we enjoyed our choices. I stopped to say hello to the manager as we left and that evening I received an email from him thanking us for our visit. A small quibble. Street parking is almost nonexistent so we left our car with the valet. We were delighted to see he brought it upfront prior to us leaving. However, I still get nervous over to tight parking. Definitely a go back to restaurant.

For not being open all that long, the kitchen was on point. Very Italian take on pasta and the beef cheek was melt in your mouth. Front of the house was also very very accommodating. Great start for these folks and cheers to their success. Photo is the starter… we were to busy digging in to the rest of it to take any more.

A new place in the downtown Arts district that is presently in the midst of a soft opening, Hearts and Flame is well worth your time and money . From the moment the valet took our car away my wife and I we were treated like treasured guests. A large open industrial space with wait staff in black and white adding a touch of the old school not only in look, but in the kind and attentive execution of their jobs. We truly enjoyed everything we ordered. My wife's Strozzapreti was a revelation. The beautiful Branzino a Carpaccio was fantastic and the Mieloso honey cake is absolutely not to be missed! I would suggest booking a reservation soon while you still can. Our thanks to Chef Michele Brogi and the entire staff.
