Friends for many years, hicce is a dream realised for this ambitious duo and the space and concept has been meticulously thought out to create the ultimate dining experience.
The menu will highlight Pip’s passion and skill for using the barbeque as a fuel source; grilling to steaming and smoking. From traditional smørbrød with cured meats and homemade pickles; to fish, meat and yakitori cooked over specialist holm oak charcoal. Pip will use traditional techniques to create beautiful dishes inspired by her travels and driven by her commitment to the very best produce.
Gordy is fantastically knowledgeable about drinks and guests can expect to see a carefully curated list of biodynamic wines, craft beers and original cocktails, each chosen to bring the best out of every plate.
An exciting and different restaurant that I think will become even better as it settles into its Kings Cross location. Most of the dishes were fantastic- the service was excellent and I would definitely like to return in the future when they’ve got some new things to try on the menu!
Excellent service and atmosphere. Food was delicious, if anything there was too much.
What a find! This is a great location if you're in the area around Kings Cross. It's located above the Wolf & Badger store in the new Coal Drops Yard.
We ate here early on a Friday evening and the restaurant was already filling up fast, so definitely make sure you pre-book to avoid disappointment. The staff are super super friendly and helpful, taking the time to talk to us and explain the menu. It's an interesting and eclectic menu which warrants some attention because there are some really different combinations and tastes to sample. It includes a good number of choices for veggies, and plenty of fish too. The format is designed to let you share dishes and takes you away from the traditional starter, main and dessert approach.
We really enjoyed the hot sticks cooked on the wood-fired grill; beetroot, sweet potato and sumac, and yellowfin tuna with apple along with the mushroom terrine. Followed by the mackerel served with blood orange, and the octopus. Sadly we didn't have time for dessert, so I missed out on the ginger parkin.....an excellent reason to pay a return visit!!
Loved it! There wasn’t a dish we didn’t enjoy. Staff are great.
Most enjoyable lunch with friends at Hicce I shall recommend this restaurant to my family and friends. The food was delicious and I loved the hot stix. Very relaxing and no hurry to leave. I will return soon
Lunch menu was good and well priced. Attentive staff, lovely atmosphere.
This was a birthday celebration for 4 people and initially there was a mix up over my booking as someone arrived with the same initial and surname, although I had booked with my first name. ( what are the chances of that happening) It was resolved fairly quickly and we were all happy. I think if it were my restaurant I might have given a free dessert or glass of wine as an apology and as it was a birthday meal but nothing was forthcoming and no mention of the birthday! The food is delicious but you do need the menu explaining as there are different elements to the menu that you need to understand before ordering. (They might have to change that in time as it's quite hard work for the staff) The food is delicious and it makes for a great ambience that you share with each other.
You start with some speciality breads to mix with a charcuterie plate, veg, cheese and jars. We had a jar of carrots and cardamom which complemented the cheese very well. Move on to Hot sticks which are a selection of different veg, meat and fish. Finally Veg which arrives at the end although it might work better in the middle. It is a different experience and one that you will love if like me you hate the starchy formal restaurants of old. This is much more fun and I could happily while away a few more hours here.
My husband paid the bill and originally mistook the VAT for service charge but the service charge of 12.5% is included and the staff certainly earn it as they are rushing backwards and forwards all night with all the small plates of food. I would highly recommend this restaurant but book directly with the restaurant rather than online as it caused some confusion. A great night though with great food.
The food, drinks, atmosphere, concept and staff friendliness were superb. We had a fantastic evening. The boquerones and octopus in particular were delicious.
The only downsides were the long waiting times for drinks, staggered starter arrivals and cost. £210 for two with wine and a cocktail is a bit punchy, but I’d pay it again because the food was ace.
Had a great evening... food, service and atmosphere bang on!
Fantastic! Better than I was expecting. Food was some of the best I've had in years. Very different and some excellent combinations. Highly recommended!
Visited on Saturday lunch; the venue is flooded with natural light and has a mixture of counter and table seating. We really enjoyed the ambience of the place and the food was tasty and well presented but for me it wasn't the star of the show. I should add that as a non meat-eater I am probably not the target audience: There are a good selection of vegetable dishes but they didn't eat to my palate. That said I would definitely go back.
When I booked I confirmed it was my daughters 21sr birthday. The day before I phoned the restaurant and again confirmed this was a very special occasion . No mention or comment was made by staff or managers in the restaurant and I was very disappointed . We had booked Hicce following 2 recommendations. I would be reluctant to recommend for a special celebration meal
The place is slightly difficult to find, didn’t realise had to go upstairs of Coal Drops Yard. Overall great atmosphere and delicious food however the serving were just way too small. We ordered almost everything on the menu and left the restaurant still feeling hungry/unsatisfied. There are better value restaurants out there that does just as good quality food. Won’t be coming back
Beautiful location, great food, quantities a bit small
Very enjoyable lunch with friends at hicce. Small sharing dishes so lots of flavours and textures without getting overly full. Friendly staff. Lovely light space with great views of the new development at Kings Cross. We were on the wine big time and stayed a long time so the final bill was hefty - £350 for four people but you could definitely have a nice meal for a lot less than that. The deep-fried Brussel sprouts were phenomenal and we lovely all the cheeses. There was even gluten-free bread for our coeliac friend.
Excellent food, great atmosphere and fab service. Will be back!
Decent food, not ridiculously priced. Waiters with personalities. Nice ambiance. Good local to have.
Very interesting concept, yummy food and impeccable service.
Loved everything about hicce. You’ll never look at Brussels sprouts the same way again (get down before they’re out of season). Coal drops yard is a hidden gem.
Food was fine but small but the real problem was service.
Staff seemed a bit standoffish with us and just quite cold. We arrived at 135 and didn't get our food till 255.
The roasts were fine but small. A roast usually fills me up all afternoon but instead we ate cheese and chacuterie at a bar down the road.
Great food. Lovely atmosphere. Could have been a little more attention from waiting staff.
We had a great evening sampling lots of different dishes. The stand out choice had to be the brussel sprouts!
Wonderful food and service. Sit at the counter to have a front row seat as Pip Lacey and her team work wonders before your very eyes.
Not bad overall but very hyped up. Food fine but portions small and not very exciting
Average food, fish was better. Wine good. Stick food should be cooked well and served hot
Great ambience and liked the many plates approach would suggest smaller mains
Service was slow. Food was average and the food concept is uninspiring
Without any doubt the best and better value restaurant in coal yard
Let's leave the others to the more money than sense
Fab cool team here all under the supervision of Scotty
We had the lunchtime menu offer. The food was really good although we found the concept of the food on sticks slightly confusing! Lovely space and tables not too close together.
What a wonderful experience, The serving staff advised us on the process of ordering and gave us excellent suggestions. The food was gorgeous. The manager came over and explained the history behind this little gem. Cant wait to go back. Tina
We had a brilliant meal with some really interesting flavours. We sat the bar side count and it enjoyed staff talking to us
A thoroughly enjoyable visit to Hicce.
Food was very tasty, well presented and of a consistently high standard - I don't think there was a weak dish among our selections.
Service was unobtrusive and unrushed, despite being seated dusing a busy Sat eve service. The cocktails were well made and the wine easy-going. We were happy to have saved room for the delicious ginger parkin for dessert. Have already recommended Hicce to several friends and look forward to returning in future to sample a range of different dishes!
Good value, great food and a nice atmosphere in a fun new area of Kings Cross - ideal for cathing up with friends over a leisurely meal.
Myself and mum were visiting London to go to the theatre and we'd been recommended Hicce by a friend who's relative knows the owner. It was a fab evening. Staff were knowledgeable, food was very tasty and wine was delicious! Very cool restaurant with a laid-back feel and great playlist! Will definitely be back.
Small plates made for sharing, varied menu and lots of subtle flavours. Good fun if you take a bar seat. Attentive service, well worth trying for a different dining experience
Fantastic counter seating, with chance to talk to Pip as she and the team prepared the dishes! Sprouts to die for - have to be experienced
I wanted to love hicce...my kind of place, small plates to share and good drinks. I was so underwhelmed and disappointed. Food was ok, nothing that interesting or stand-out...and the squid we had to send back it was terrible..hard, rubbery and an overpowering fish taste that made it inedible. We replaced with the chorizo dish- which was nice..but again..nothing stand-out. Lastly, I hate to mention value/price because it usually doesn't phase me..it's central London, however the prices do not justify what you get for any of it, especially the starter boards..we spent £20 for two slices of bread, a small pot of mushrooms, a chunk of cheese and small tasting of boquerones. It wasn't worth the cost..for the taste. (One final note, when we asked to have the squid replaced, the bartender said she had to check with the kitchen- that is literally insulting to the customer..). Won't be going back.
Fantastic location, amazing food! Will definitely be coming back! Service was extremely attentive! This is the perfect restaurant in the current casual dining scene!
Staff are super friendly, attentive and helpful. It’s a refreshingly different concept to Tapas style eating and all the things we tried were delicious. I have recommended Hicce to my friends and shall definitely be returning .
Great atmosphere and a lovely, innovative menu. Recommended!
Enjoyed the food, but thought the combination of a couple of roast/mains with small plates a little confusing
Bread was great and deserts too
