I went with my wife and son. We were greeted warmly - and that was just the start. The wine selections were very good, the appetizer unique and delicious. Main courses were extremely well done and showed imagination and polish. Desert was sinful.
I’m going back!
Everything was outstanding— excellent service by Susan and exceptionally delicious food.
This restaurant never disappoints!
Creative and authentic Italian food!
Ok Capriccio is one of my very favorite restaurants. The food is excellent as is the service. Yes a bit pricey but it is worth spending the money knowing that it will be a totally delicious rxperience
I've eaten at Il Capriccio numerous times over its long reign as one of the best Italian restaurants in the western suburbs. My latest experience (and that of three dining companions) was remarkably disappointing. As an example, the octopus had a soggy texture and the accompanying sauce was heavily overspiced (and inappropriate as an accompaniment for ocotopus). Octopus has been a current fad ingredient at upscale Italian restaurants and Il Capriciio could learn how to handle octopus properly from Toscano. The gnocchi was bland, the canneloni adequate but nothing special. The service was subpar, but excusable for a Saturday night. Surprisingly there was no question raised by the staff when both my dishes were left half eaten.
Either Il Capriccio was having a bad night or the restaurant ain't what it used to be.
Addendum: In response to the above review, the restaurant called me and left a sarcastic message, telling me to take my business elsewhere.
Good service good food good experience
We had a fantastic meal at Il Capriccio. The food was off the charts delicious and the service was as well. We all had pasta dishes that were authentic Northern Italian. The wine list was lengthy and had many reasonably priced and fantastic wines. I was incredibly impressed all around. We eat out often and I would put it on the top of my list as a favorite!
Great service. Very personalized. Good menu choices .
Celebrated a friend’s special birthday. Everyone from the owner, Richie, to the bartender, Dana, were wonderful. The food was spectacular-the tuna tartare was delicious, loved the addition of the avocado. The porcini appetizer was superb, and the Bolognese was outstanding. An A-plus experience.
Always leave happy and well fed!
I have been hoping to try this restaurant for months after reading about it on a list of "places worth leaving Boston for." I was so excited and made a reservation to visit for my 9th anniversary. My fiance and I were so disappointed. The food was mediocre at best and expensive. We started with a raw fish appetizer and the fish was chopped so small and mixed with guacamole so that you could barely taste the fish. We shared three pasta dishes that were bland. I would say skip it. There are so many better, cheaper options.
Interesting menu, great food and efficient service.
Excellent restaurant. Outstanding food and incredible service!!!!
This is, in my opinion, the best Italian restaurant in the Boston area bar none. Not only is the food beautifully presented and prepared to, but the wine list offers value and inspiration. Given the quality hopefully food, wine and service, in the value one receives, the price is more than reasonable.
My wife and I had dinner at Il Capriccio last Friday night. It was our first time dining there and our experience was excellent. The food was uniformly excellent (most notably the chicken livers my wife had, the white bean and cauliflower soup I had, and the lobster risotto and the grey sole entrees my wife and I had respectively). The service from our server Mark was excellent throughout the night, and the support servers were very attentive. The Sommelier (Jane) helped us select an excellent Cardonnay from the very extensive wine list at Il Capriccio. The decor and atmosphere were both elegant, and the noise level was good (not unduly loud). What was particularly nice was the slower pacing between courses (app, salad, entree, and dessert in our case) allowed for time to enjoy each course and the wine! This was one of the two best restaurants we had dined at in the past year, and we highly recommend Il Capriccio. We look forward to returning.
The appetizers and dessert (we did a meat and cheese platter) were amazing. The entrees were average, and the presentation was sub par
The service was excellent, the food was excellent. We had to wait about 15-20 minutes to be seated. The noise level was high but by the end of dinner it was much better.
wonderful meal, I reccommend the porcini souffle- memorable!!
First time there for couples Saturday date night. Couldn’t be more happy. If I have to say one thing it would be about my sweet tooth and that would translate into extending the dessert menu. Overall great time great service great food
As always, a wonderful meal. The seasonal calamari, zucchini and potato fritters are terrific--I'd be happy to make a meal out of them. But then there was osso buco, also delicious. Was also tempted by the cannelloni, will just have to come back before the menu changes.
With the nice menu, excellent kitchen, pleasant and capable staff, comfortable and relatively quiet room, and reasonable prices we always leave well satisfied. This time we were particularly pleased with:
The only way we could suggest improvement is to check a little more frequently on the need to refill/reorder a beverage.
This was our first visit . Front desk was very accommodating as they allowed me to take a quick peak at the dining areas. Sitting in the first dining area on the left, they were gracious as we chose a table that met our needs. It was important for our group of four to be able to hear one another, so the table we chose was perfect. The food was delicious, the wait staff was very accommodating. It was a celebratory time for us; we thank you for the culinary experience.
My favorite restaurant! The food is always excellent, as is the service. It's always difficult
to choose what to have because there are so many dishes I want to try.
It was the perfect spot for a yummy dinner on a cold night. The food was prepared with care and portion size satisfying. Service was outstanding. A gem of a restaurant in the suburbs. Highly recommend and will be back!
Food was excellent. The approach was creative. The dining was quiet except for another party that was a bit raucous but that is a risk at any restaurant.
What good fortune! We came upon this restaurant chance and had an outstanding birthday celebration there! Food and service were both top of the line. Can’t wait to go back.
The staff couldn’t have been nicer to us on our anniversary.
Best Italian in New England!
Always exceptional - food and service the best West of Boston
Never disappoints. The food is amazing and the people could not be any nicer. Always a pleasure! Thank you!!
I love Il Capriccio. Wonderful food and excellent service. I would certainly recommend it to others.
Excellent as always
Our appetizers, house cured gravlax and charcuterie platter of salumi, were both very good. However, our main courses, Staler Chicken and linguini with clam sauce and mussels were both very salty. The management was kind enough to take one of them off the bill. Service was good but not great.
Being the day after Valentine's Day may have just been a letdown . Chalk it up to an off night. We've been before and will return again.
Note: Noise level rating should be "excellent" but rating scale of survey unclear.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Waiter helpful and friendly even on a busy Valentines Day evening.
My girlfriend and I ate at Il Capriccio on Valentine's Day, 2019, our first time eating there. Due to my not reserving a table sufficiently in advance--I did so on the 4th--I reserved a table for 5:15 PM. (We were otherwise looking at after 9 PM.) The waiter was thoughtfully attentive, helpful and naturally caring. The food was somewhere between "good and excellent", but primarily excellent, depending on the item. My girlfriend had sole which I did not taste and which she apparently felt could have been improved upon. But in certain ways that's sole, isn't it? I had veal which was excellent, as were the mussels (shared), the side vegetables (for each of us), a salad she had, and the chocolate cake and ice cream dessert (again, shared and also superb). Hey, it's not an inexpensive place, so go expecting to spend some money. In a word (or six), we had a very lovely time. It's possible that the dining room would have become more noisy over the course of the evening. However, as it turned out, the early hour worked very well for us.
Have loved this restaurant for decades. The hostess is warm and personable. Waiters are great with their descriptions of the dishes and knowledgeable about the wine list.
Il Capriccio never fails to impress. Whether ordering an old standard from the menu - the divine porcini souffle - or something new, the food is always impeccably prepared and served.
We are always delighted when we get to dine here, and try to make reservations well in advance, it continues to be a sought after night out! I first heard about Il Capriccio over 30 years ago! I've never had a bad meal, they change their menu and wine offerings, always keeping it interesting. I noticed the staff had even updated their wine selection recommendations, which leads me to believe Richie runs a great place, he conscientiously makes sure everyone is involved and knowledgeable. We love the bar, with Lydia, when Liz, the hostess can create a space for us, which she does so deftly! Recently we enjoyed the dining room in a cozy corner table with friends...just wish it were in Vinnie's section! ;-) Such a treat!
Always really good! Food, service and the presentation right on!
I've been to this restaurant many times, but it had been a couple of years since my last visit. Delighted to report that the food is still excellent! Had the veal osso bucco (not in a tomato sauce) and it was just delicious. Pacing of the meal was perfect. Go and enjoy!
